  1. I said it once and I'll say it again, if there's a nicer ballplayer than Micah, I've never met him. Good luck to Micah. For those who know him and are reading, please pass that along.
  2. Congrats to Micah...and Montanez as well. (Hopefully Nic Jackson follows them up the ladder soon as well.)
  3. Not true. At the time of the Jones signing, both Encarnacion and Preston Wilson were still unsigned. While neither are better than Jones, I'm not sure they are much worse either. All are good defensively but have major offensive holes. Reggie Sanders was still available as well. The right field options were limited. We knew that going into the offseason. It still doesn't excuse giving Jacque Jones, whose numbers the two previous seasons were atrocious, a three-year deal.
  4. Andre Dawson swinging an aluminum bat is scary!
  5. 6 IP. 101 pitches. 2 ER. 6K. 4 BB. (Two of the six K's will be Soriano)
  6. Pretty simple actually. Aramis has actually done some good in a Cubs uniform, over a long stretch of time. Jones and Pierre have not. Lots of others Cubs have not. I'm annoyed as hell at Aramis's start. But it wasn't stupid for Hendry to trade for him (even though I wrongfully criticized it at the time). It wasn't stupid for Hendry to sign him. The Pierre and Jones moves were bad from the start, and then they make it worse by playing like crap right from the get-go. You have to build up some equity with the fans if you want to get away with crappy play over an extended period. A minor leaguer can build up that equity by having a quality ride through the minor league season, that is, assuming the fans in question actually pay attention and understand what the minor league progression entails. A veteran can build up that equity by playing well for the team and living up to his contract. Aramis did that for most of his 2.5 years here. He isn't now. He's taking a serious hit on that equity and now has a long way to go to build it back up. But he's nowhere near Jones and Pierre territory. They're two transient squatters who haven't paid a dime in rent yet, let alone built up any equity in the house of Cubs. Excellently stated.
  7. One of the Washington guys is Tom Pacoriek. I bet he's just glad not to have to work with Hawk Harrellson anymore.
  8. Did you think a game between two woefully inept franchises merits more than that?
  9. Wow. Excellent spot on analysis, Bruce. Great job all around.
  10. How good can Scott Moore be? Does he have a chance at a major league job in the future?
  11. I'm not sure if I'd prefer Patterson or Jones, but I would rather have Patterson than Pierre right now.
  12. yes in the infamous hermanson and hundley for grudz and karros deal. but he was re-signed as FA a year later. Then if you include Grudz because he was re-signed a year later, shouldn't you include Nomar who was re-signed the season after he was acquired as well?
  13. I'm just worried that we may have already scored our four runs for the week.
  14. We have Eyre, Howry, and Dempster coming off the off day. There is no reason Zambrano should have started the 8th.
  15. I'd like to write in Jacque Jones in both his approach at the plate and his work on the bases.
  16. whats Z's pitch count? is it 96 (Gameday) or 100? Gameday says 100 for me I have 101. So, it's right around there.
  17. With the game on WCIU, I may not even get it on EI. I'll have to check the DirectTV schedule.
  18. a- i was joking but b- we need someone from Cuba to help Mr Valdes when he gets to the majors. Although Contreras or El Duque could help him make the adjustment, Mr Sanchez would be a nice fallback and utility OF. And why throw off on Goodwin? He is a very nice person and one of the classiest Cubs of the new millenium. Tom Goodwin wasn't a bad person, just not a great ballplayer. He served his role, I guess. We don't need Sanchez, though. I guessed you were joking...but if we want someone like Sanchez, there are better options...mainly Angel Pagan who is already on the roster.
