This would be depressing if not for two things: 1. We aren't contending for anything this year. 2. I have already realized Wood will not be back. What happens to Wood this year really doesn't affect the Cubs' present or future.
cubs fans shouldn't be making fun of other teams that don't win championships. Well Bulls fans can so screw you. I bet you're Mr. Congeniality at your school.
The PA has no say over the signing of draft picks because the draft picks are not part of the MLBPA. Minor leaguers are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement as draft picks are in the other sports.
You're confusing Cubs fans' attitude with Sox fans. It's Sox fans who care more about seeing the other team fail than seeing their team succeed (or at least that's the stereotype many people on this board have). Cub fans, however, care about one thing: Ending a nearly century old drought and winning a World Series. That means Cub fans would be in favor of any trade that would bring the Cubs closer to the promised land. If that trade also benefits the other team, so be it. Cub fans would NOT be in favor of a trade that's less likely to help them reach the World Series just to stick it to the Sox.You are correct that Sox fans have this anti-Cubs mentality and come off as anti-Cubs first, pro-White Sox 2nd. They still have this attitude after winning the World Series. Therein lies the problem. They win the World Series and are still extremly anti-Cubs. Before they won the World Series, I would be somewhat okay with a deal helping them. Now, I'm not. So, once again the only reason why the Cubs should not trade with the Sox is that you don't want to deal with their attitude. That's pretty flimsy.
He's a FA at the end of the season, so if anyone needs a veteran catcher for the stretch, we should deal him. I'm not sure what teams that matches up with, but I'm sure Hendry could get a toolsy A-ball prospect that is repeating the level.
He talked about possibly being traded to Detroit, which would really bring things full circle for him. John Kruk also brought it up during last night's BBTN. Smoltz should have the option to go wherever he wants to finish his career. He's earned it. Smoltz is a 10 and 5 player, so in essence he has a no-trade clause.
How do you know? He may have had a very valid reason. Not that I disagree with Barrett's suspension, because it does seem appropriate to me. I do disagree with you purporting to know what was said between these guys, and knowing that he had no reason. Please, share your knowledge with us. Did you speak personally with Barrett or Pierzynski? Agreed. If someone of your sex makes you really mad, sometimes you snap and punch them in the face. If everybody who ever did that went to jail, there would be far less free people. And if everybody who didn't like what someone else said chose to punch them, it would be one heck of a society that we live in. Even Barrett said that he was wrong. I'm not sure why you're all still defending him. AJ did nothing and said nothing. It's all on video. 10 games doesn't seem like much. He sucker-punched the guy, for crying out loud. You can't do that on a baseball field. However, ten games is much more than what baseball has handed out for similar offenses. I'd like to see some consistency in the punishments. As it is right now, there is none. I'm not sure what's similar, though. Are there other recent incidents of this sort of thing. When Alomar spit in an umpire's face, he got five games.

Glad to know you accepted defeat. While dealing with the Sox may be difficult for you in Chicago, we all have fans that we have to deal with. Apparently that point was lost on you. The goal of the Cubs should be to build the best team they can. Other than maybe not trading within the division, no other restrictions can should be made. In fact while I might would prefer to trade with the rest of the AL over the Sox, I'd rather trade with the Sox than any other NL team as we don't compete with the Sox for anything significant except some pissing match that some Chicago fans might have.
No, I think maybe it's you who are missing the point. We don't give a rats ass whether or not you get razzed by White Sox fans. It doesn't matter one iota and shouldn't matter one iota in whether or not the Cubs make a trade with the Sox. If the Cubs are looking to make a trade, even when unloading veteran players, if according to the scouts, the best deal is being offered from the White Sox then the Cubs should take it...even if they aren't fleecing them...even if the deal could make the White Sox a better team, because that's what you do when you make a trade. You make the best trade that you can for what circumstances your team is in. The thin-skinned, hot tempered, hot-headedness of your fans should never come into play. Anyone who thinks it should is the one who is taking stupid pills. Blueheart05 wrote this: That's my thought's excatly why any trade with the White Sox needs to cost them a little more. Howry and Eyre are the guys who wouldbe the final pieces they'd need for another run. Like he said, there are other teams we can trade them too. I wouldn't trade Howry or Eyre to anyone right now. They actually give us a strong bullpen, but if the White Sox offered us the best deal on Williamson or another impending FA the Cubs wanted to unload, I'd take it without any qualms.
I'm not arguing Baker may or may not be part of the problem. I just don't think Piniella is the answer. Firey temperment would not be even at the bottom of the list of criteria I'd look for in a new manager. I get frustrated at the lack of fundamentals as well, but I don't think a firey manager fixes that. This team needs a better approach to how it is constructed. Changing the GM fixes that.
The sentiments behind this thread resonates the same faulty logic that Hendry and Dusty keep spouting out and is primarily the reason the team is in such a funk. It's always about injuries, or bad luck, or some mythical we're not hitting with RISP....or some crap like that. This team is faultily constructed. It isn't capable of running off the number of wins needed to get back to .500. For that reason, those who constructed it must go.
I mean really..... how could anybody not like a guy named Fred ??? I really think you should add the cute little "i" to the end of your name as well.
Update: No trading with the Rockies, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Dodgers, Giants, Angels, A's, Twins, Nationals, Astros, Braves, White Sox, Cardinals, or Royals. Great list everyone!
