  1. Congrats The Astros, depending on the players b/c it's an inter-division trade. The Braves are not a hated rival. They are by me. Last time I watched the Cubs in Atlanta, they asked me how Andy Pratt was working for us. I never want to have to deal with that again. I'm very thin skinned and almost got into a fight over it.
  2. We'll get those added right away! No trades with Braves, Astros, Cardinals, White Sox, Royals, Dodgers, Giants , or A's because several of us Cub fans don't wanna be made fun of!
  3. Ok, so right now the list includes White Sox, Cardinals, Braves, Astros, and Royals that we can't trade with unless we're obviously fleecing them. Should we add any more teams to this list before sending it to MacPhail?
  4. So, since I have to deal with Braves and Astros fans, we shouldn't trade with those teams either.
  5. That was bad....and who said speed never slumps....
  6. Lloyd McClendon once stole first base. Well, I'm sure that was entertaining. If I want a fired up entertaining team, I'll just request Barrett sucker punch AJ again.
  7. Wild horses, as they say....... btw, got your letter today !! Good...hopefully you can meet me early that afternoon so we can grab some more seats on the first row.
  8. Furthermore, Lloyd McClendon was a firey individual and that certainly helped him win a lot of games.
  9. "Fire" doesn't win games. Talent and strategy does. Ask Bill Belicheck. Fire Hendry. You can't honestly tell me the White Sox last year were the most talented team in baseball. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Cardinals were all far more talented. The White Sox had more passion and love for the game. That makes a difference. The Marlins were not teh most talented in 2003 and the Angels were also not the most talented in 2002. Talent is not everything. Your Bill Belicheck analogy doens't make much sense to me. He has never had the most talented team in football. Alway the best coached and most motivated teams. That is why they have been able to replace players. The White Sox were the hottest team at the time as were the Marlins. That has a lot to do with it. I doubt it had much to do with their fire and passion.
  10. I'd prefer a team that wins without fire compared to one that loses but gets riled up about it. This team needs a new philosophy about how it is constructed. That has to begin with the GM. Also, while Piniella may throw things and yell, that doesn't always translate to success on the field. In some regards, that sort of behavior could be detrimental in the days of guaranteed contracts. His fire and temperment might work well with players fighting for a job, but vets with guaranteed contracts often shut that crap out.
  11. The trip to New Orleans, then on to Los Angeles got scrubbed. Went to pick up the first load this morning, and they said "Who?", "What?", "When?". By the time the dust had settled, I'd waisted the whole day, and got nothing to show for it. They found me another load going to Memphis, but it doesn't pickup till morning. [sigh] Just make sure you're back in Chicago by 6/27. :)
  12. At the rate this season is going, everyone might get at least three turns.
  13. I'd fire Hendry first. But then, my guess is the first move by the new GM would be to replace Baker. I'm not sold on Piniella as manager. Temperment shouldn't be the quality that gets a manager his job. I'm dissapointed that Johnson was hired by the Nationals. Since he isn't employed as the field manager, I wonder if he might still be free to take a job as manager if some team were interested in talking to him. I'd also look at Dierker ahead of Piniella. While he didn't have as much time to ply his trade in Houston, his track record is pretty good. As far as young coaches on other teams, I've always been a fan of Fredi Gonzalez.
  14. BK, I like the detailed charts and graphs, but I think the casual fan might want your interpretations or analysis as to what they show and what that means for the player.
  15. BK, could I request an article on Scott Moore?
  16. It's summer. Bynum's people play better in the heat than Murton. After all, Murton is one of those ginger kids.
  17. I can't see how Dave Veres and Mark Guthrie aren't in this discussion....
  18. Somehow, I don't want to see the adventure that would be Nevin trying to catch Zambrano.
  19. This really doesn't matter. We were going to lose with Barrett; we're going to lose without him. Maybe these ten games will help improve Blanco's trade value for a deadline deal.
  20. This team will not reach .500. I just hope that Hendry grows a pair and begins to trade the impending FA's so that we can begin to retool for next season. Pierre- needs to go. Maddux- get what you can for him. Walker- I like ya...but bye-bye. Nevin- So long, buddy. Blanco- Who needs a back-up catcher? Williamson- Nice Knowing ya! Wood- Please waive the NTC.
  21. Wouldn't surprise me as Len and Bob have been trying to subtlely infer how terrible this team is without openly trashing them for weeks now. (Especially Bob.) Bob maybe trying to get himself a job.
