  1. So, we're going to be paying over five million next season for an infielder with a 650 OPS. :puker:
  2. Fingers crossed for Cezar Izturis... I thought we'd want someone good.
  3. I'm eager to see the players we received. If we're sending money, hopefully they are good prospects.
  4. For those who want to see Maddux finish his career as a Cub, think on this. If Maddux is on the Cubs at the end of the season, there is almost no chance he'll pitch here next season. Think of how the arbitration deadline will affect things and wo is Maddux's agent. First of all, there's no way the Cubs offer Maddux arbitration. At his age, he's only going to get a one-year deal, so he'd love to jump at an arbitration offer and use his career stats to get a 10-11 million dollar deal. So, by not offering him arbitration, the Cubs would have to re-sign him by the early December date. That is usually the start of the Winter Meetings. That leads me to the second point. There's no way Maddux signs an "economically" favorable deal by that point. His agent is Boras who loves to play the waiting game. The only way Boras lets Maddux jump at an early deal is if it's a good one. Boras will expect 6+ million for Maddux. So, there's no way he signs that early. By keeping Maddux for the remainder of the year, the Cubs guarantee he's not back next season. By trading him, the Cubs could continue to work on a deal to bring him back in the offseason with no artificial deadlines affecting the progress.
  5. While I hope I'm wrong, I see Cedeno as Dunston without the power.
  6. Sean Thompson would be a nice player to receive as well, but I don't think the Padres would deal him, especially not in a trade for Walker.
  7. I'm going to hate seeing Walker go. Why not throw in Maddux and ask for Kottaras in return.
  8. I think it's pointless to look back and try and find good moves and bad moves. What matters is the big picture. A general manager's job is big picture. If the team sucks, it's his fault. You can't really get pissed at a GM who builds a 91 win team that falls a game short. But when you have an upper echelon payroll and build two consecutive horrible teams, you've done a horrible job. Trying to look at a deal or two that weren't all that bad on the surface is pointless. I don't know if its "pointless", but I agree with everything else you posted. I gave Jim a one-time pass in 05' b/c he had built up a team that should have won in 04' and looked like it was well on its wau. However, he has used up his free passes with me after watching the team he built for this season. My point as well. I felt the team improved from 03 to 04. 05 was a pass in my book as well, but this debacle has left me in the camp that Hendry needs to go. He hasn't done anything in the "big picture" category to make me believe he can build a consistent winner.
  9. Same guy that has been... Youkilis. Ohhh....thats right I totally forgot. Since the Cubs have sucked hard, i really havent been watching much baseball. Okay, then that leads me to ask who plays second if Loretta is moved? That would be Lugo, hence the follow-up trade with Tampa.
  10. In the ESPN chat, this is what Neyer had to say:
  11. That only makes sense if the Braves are going to move Giles somewhere....and I don't know why the Braves would downgrade two positions. Giles is better than Loretta and Jones is better than Crisp.
  12. How about the Cubs trade Aramis and Aardsma for Lidge and Ensberg. Turn around and trade Ensberg to San Diego for Kottaras and then trade Dempster to the Rangers for one of the DVD boys.
  13. how about Ramirez and Navoa for Lidge and Ensberg No thanks. Ramirez is a lot better and 3 years younger than Ensberg. Lidge would be nice, but not worth the difference between Ramirez and Ensberg in my opinion. However, if Ramirez is believed by Hendry to want to opt out, then maybe you do it. Exactly. I'm of the opinion he is opting out. If he is, this trade replaces him in the short and maybe the long term. It also gives you a hellova closer in Lidge...and creates a nice bargaining chip in excess bullpen arms in Lidge, Dempster, Howry, etc. If Ramirez will not opt out or will negotiate an extension, then the Cubs pass. Hendry hopefully would have a clear understanding of Aramis' intentions.
  14. I don't think Boston will give up Lester and I doubt the Braves think they will. It was a counter-offer. I wouldn't be surprised to see something go down with a lesser prospect in the place of Lester.
  15. This from ESPN's ongoing chat this morning... Interesting.
  16. how about Ramirez and Navoa for Lidge and Ensberg I think we'd be getting hosed in both of those deals. If Ramirez is going to opt out, it's something to think about.
  17. how about Ramirez and Navoa for Lidge and Ensberg McClain likes local boys. (see Berkman, Pettitte, and Clemens.) Aardsma played at Rice and lives in the Woodlands. I think he'd have more value to the guy that seems to be ultimately calling the shots here.
  18. McClain is a prick. I haven't talked to my source in Houston in about six months, but I know that McClain over-riding his GM is why Hunsicker left. Things could get ugly fast in Houston.
  19. How about this complicated deal.... Ramirez and Aardsma to the Astros for Ensberg and Lidge. The Cubs could then trade Dempster elsewhere.
  20. A four game sweep of the Cardinals...perfect time for Hendry to announce Dusty's extension.
  21. I misread that as "I just saw my girlfriend with my brother..." It doesn't quite have the same effect.
