  1. Bruce, Is that his name in the clubhouse or simply your personal pet name for him?
  2. I can see Manny moving if the Red Sox believe they can get younger and better. Theo has said numerous times that this is something the Red Sox need to do. I wonder if there could be a deal of Manny + cash to the Rangers for Michael Young.
  3. Source: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0609240105sep24,1,3202061.story?coll=chi-sportscubs-hed I'm hoping he was scouting Cabrera. :)
  4. I'm sure that will pretty much be the national consensus (everyone outside of OSU fans) which is very cool. Yeah this will be the third time in four weeks they'll be at OSU's game, but really they haven't had much choice. They had to be at the Texas game and Iowa-OSU is the only matchup of ranked teams next weekend and the clear game of the week, plus Herbstreit will be there. I was surprised they were at Columbus today, but I guess the next best options were Notre Dame or Cal and Arizona State. And you know as long as Michigan doesn't fall off the map, Gameday will be in Columbus on November 18. I thought I heard they didn't plan on going to the same location twice. A quick look shows the only other ones that would make sense being Auburn/Alabama and Cal/USC. My guess Auburn/Alabama. That's a huge game down there and the atmosphere will be raucous.
  5. Might need to have an alternate closer waiting in the wings, though. If his arm can't handle the pounding having 5 days of rest, how will it handle having to pitch, say, every day for 3 days and then another 2 after 1 day of rest in between? That's the life of a closer at times. Not that I don't want him. Just saying. howry can close. marmol needs to be switched to the pen in 2007 imo too so they might as well try him at closing in iowa. Im starting to worry about Howry. His history of arm problems could come up again. He has pitched alot in the past 2 years. Hendry needs to add another bullpen arm. We have plenty of arms for the pen. We already have Dempster, Howry, Eyre, Wuertz, Ohman and Novoa. Add to those there could be Aardsma and whoever isn't a starter from Mateo and Marmol. And if Wood is re-signed, that's one more. We do not need to waste any of the limited FA resources on the bullpen. We'll already be paying 15-18 million on the bullpen, and that is more than enough.
  6. I'm starting to think he should bat seventh.
  7. I'm resigned to the fact that we're stuck with Izturis. He should bat no higher than eighth. When Zambrano pitches...he might should hit ninth. Izzy is going to spend so much time on the DL we'd better go get a quality backup. Ronny C definitely isn't it. Theriot is, however.
  8. Am I the only one who is doubting whether Notre Dame is a good team?
  9. You weren't. Your figures are probably right in line with what he'll get if he opts out. But, I'm not sure if he wants to or not. There's a lot of indication that he likes Chicago. Why? I have no damn clue. Maybe he doesn't like change. I don't know. But if he likes Chicago, and Hendry offers him the same extension that he offered Lee after an MVP-like season, Ramirez may feel that is fair and sign before anyone can tell him that they'd pay him more.
  10. True, my point is I don't think that's very realistic. Your brain doesn't want it to sound realistic because you are a cards fan. We'll see. I think it's more likely he works something out with the Cubs before he opts out. . Or maybe you want it to sound realistic because you're a Cubs fan. Why hasn't Hendry had major discussions with him yet? Why wouldn't he opt out? Do you really think he'd turn down more years and money because he loves playing for the Cubs (this might be my bias here but the Cubs are in last place)? I could be wrong but all major signs point towards him opting out. actually all major signs point toward hendry re-signing him in the next few weeks. What are those? Will Carroll commented that he thought it was going to get done. Bruce Miles commented that Hendry didn't seem concerned that it wouldn't get done. Baker has implied that Ramirez mentioned he wants to stay.
  11. Georgia switches QB's and Cox leads the Bulldogs back and now lead 14-13 with 46 seconds.
  12. I don't see why this is a big deal...
  13. I think Ramirez would sign a deal that is identical to Lee's but only a year shorter. The Cubs should go to Aramis and offer him a four year extension of 4/52 that pays him 13 million annually. They could sell it to him that the deal is identical to Lee's minus one year and that he and Lee would both be together for the next four years. I really think Aramis would sign that. It's a lot of money and it would indicate the Cubs value him as much as they value Lee. I think he might beat that deal on the open market, but there's no certainty in that.
  14. The Cubs need a bat. There's doubts as to whether Soriano can handle CF. We do know he can play 2b. If the Cubs cannot trade for A. Jones, then they really have to get Soriano and pencil him in at second. They can then sign Dave Roberts, Lofton, or let Pie play CF. If the Cubs end up with Jones, then they have a number of options for secondbase, the best of which is probably signing Durham.
  15. I don't think there's any way Dusty ends up there. If the Rangers fire Showalter, I could see him finding his way to Texas.
  16. I'm resigned to the fact that we're stuck with Izturis. He should bat no higher than eighth. When Zambrano pitches...he might should hit ninth.
  17. Unless Kerry comes back for a contract under 3 mil per year, I don't want him. I have a guess that someone will gamble more than that on him.
  18. Durham would be my second choice after Soriano as well. I think he's a very realistic option, probably more realistic than Soriano.
  19. Reds' schedule is out. Link Cubs @ Reds- April 2. April 4-5 Reds @ Cubs April 13-15 Cubs @ Reds July 27-29 Reds @ Cubs - Aug 14-16 Reds @ Cubs Sept 17-19 Cubs @ Reds Sept 28-30 It looks as if we begin and end 2007 in Cincinnati.
  20. MacPhail could be taking a job with the commisioner's office as the lead negotiator for the next labor deal and then take over for Selig after his retirement. Anything that changes regimes would be nice.
  21. Hopefully, Hendry and Baker get the same boot. If MacPhail does get fired, there will be a cleaning of the house. I simply don't believe MacPhail will be fired. I think we won't be rid of him until he takes Selig's job...and then the boys at the Trib will put Hendry in charge.
  22. If Loria can shout at umpires from his box seats, I don't see why the owners would mind if Cuban did it too.
  23. Larry Dierker is still unemployed and has a sparkling record to boot. 4 out 5 years he won the division. Not too shabby.
  24. thank god the cubs dont brb, reading articles about jacque jones being threatened by racist cub fans :lmao:
