    If Aramis leaves, I support using 2007 as a reloading year. Barring that, I think Blalock should be the target. He has some issues, but I think Texas would let him go for a package of Marshall and Marmol or Mateo.

    Also, Prior is in his arbitration years, he's pissing away millions if he deliberately shuts down despite being able to throw. A decent 2006 could have earned him $8-10m next season. I agree with you both, but they would be pitching for a famous pitching abuser and either making him look good or getting hurt. This was the best answer, shut down and keep quite about it until Dusty is gone. Hendry is in on it and he hold the purse strings. I don't see it as to far fected. I see it as extremely far-fetched. There is no reason for Hendry to be a part of any such conspiracy. He could have fired Dusty at any time. He didn't need to get in cahoots with Wood and Prior to get rid of Dusty. Furthermore, this injury-riddled season hurt the values of both Wood and Prior. Wood had a 14-million option for next season. Had he been effective and healthy, it might have been picked up. Now, he'll be lucky to get three million. Prior hurt himself in arbitration and down the road. Furthermore, both Wood and Prior are competitors. They aren't going to tank a season just to get rid of a manager. The whole idea is beyond far-fetched...it's completely asinine. It's on the level of people of alien abductions...which I actually find more believable than this scenario.

    Until the new collective bargaining agreement is in place, the compensation scheme remains. Of course when we sign Edmonds we will lose our second pick which will be much higher. If the Cardinals decline Edmonds option, they will not offer him arbitration. He could then accept the arbitration offer, collect the three million buy-out, and then likely make more than the declined remainder of the contract.

    Thta's my guess as well. It reminds me of the situation in New Orleans several years back when the team imploded down the stretch and it later came out that one player was sleeping with Willie Roaf's wife and another player was sleeping with one of the coach's wives and stuff like that. Nevin's quote makes it seem like that sort of scenario was happening in there somewhere. We may never learn all or even most of what was happening, but that would be my assumption.

    I still haven't heard the verdict on compensation picks, but it's clear the Cubs should offer Pierre arbitration. He wants a multi-year deal, so he'll reject it. If compensation picks are still the rule, the Cubs will likely get a second round pick from the team that signs him.

    What you view as "Chicken Little", a lot of people view as their version of reality. We're horrid and I don't think we'll be much better next year with the FA market that's in front of us. No matter who the new manager is whether it be Dierker, Gonzalez, or Girardi, we'll still have the same fella in charge of making deals, and the same fella in charge signing the contract. A friend of mine asked why the Cubs minor league teams were so popular and well visited, and I explained to him that when you have no present, all you've got is the future to hold onto. not what I'm saying - I'm talking about all the people that act like no free agent would ever sign with the cubs. Well you gotta admit the now and future is pretty damn bleak. It's not going to be easy to lure free agents based on the beauty of Wrigley and Chicago, and the passion of the Fans. Alot of players want to win... All players want to win. That is true. But most still follow the money. Why? Becasue players have egos, and they believe they can be the difference to a struggling franchise. It's not always realistic, but when the money is better at one place, they usually can rationalize the decision to follow the money.

    At this point, I'd probably root for Belzebub in a Cubs uniform if it might bring us a World Series. While I really don't want Bonds out there, I'd certainly not complain if he could still be productive and play often enough to matter.

    We might just want to drop ties from the record. They don't matter and when one person gets a tie, everyone does. And wow...I should have laid some money down on my picks for this week!

    If this result pans out, the Saints will be in first place in the NFC South. Crazy. It won't last...but since my brother and nephew are Saints fans, I'm happy that they will enjoy this for awhile.

    A fumble by Dunn or an INT by Vick could also be costly for Roast. I definitely need to avoid the turnover.

    Felix should be the starter with Pagan as the back-up, not the other way around. Nothing in Pagan's performance this year should change the fact that Pie's MiLB numbers >>>>>>>> than Pagan's.

    Gillette is the same no-talent hack that thought he'd be cute and refer to the Cubs as Flubs in a previous chat. What's funny, if one reads through his chats, it's pretty clear he has no more inside info than you are I do. He just speculates...maybe tries to listen in on a few of Kurkijan's phone calls, but he's not a good writer and I've found he's rarely had anything insightful to write.

    Well, that depends. If the Bears come out and dominate like I'm predicting they will, it wont matter if gale sayers was supposed to be starting at HB. I have da bears holding seattle to 2 TD's or less and winning by 20 There's no way the Bears win by twenty. I think the Bears will win, even moreso with Alexander out, but twenty? Be realistic!
