  1. Bonds has as many votes as Carlos Lee.
  2. I think the Tigers would move Bonderman, but only in the right package. They are going to want an elite hitter in return. We don't have that hitter. It would be nice if we could build a package around Jones, but the pieces aren't there to do that. I see a few possibilities that could happen, but none are likely. As was mentioned before, I've seen Reds fans toss around Dunn for Bonderman (or some variation with those two being the principles.) That one makes sense if one really believes that the Reds have tired of Dunn. Another would be Bonderman going to the Orioles for Tejeda. If Guillen shifts to first, this might make sense. I'm not sure what the ramifications of Guillen's injury will be, so this one is hard to call. The Orioles likely would want more than just Bonderman if they part with Tejeda. Another possibility, is Teixeira for Bonderman. This would make some waves and the Rangers likely would want more for their slugger. This one makes perfect sense for the Orioles, but I'd think the Rangers would be reluctant to move Tex without having something more coming back.
  3. My guess the reason Meche is such a hot commodity is that team see him as an alternative to the two big name starters and want to sign him in case they lose out on those.
  4. abuck, check this out.
  5. You're going to be surprised at what he'll get. The Angels were rumored to be going to offer Ramirez over 100 million. Teams will start raising the ante a million at a time. Soriano likely will sign a 6/96 deal and get a no-trade clause to boot.
  6. That's right, nobody likes 40 40 guys. we need walks. LOL In five years Alph will be 35 plus change. I agree with IMB. To be fair, Soriano is probably one of the most athletic, well conditioned guys in the game. It's not like we're talking about some unathletic guy who's always out of shape. Conversely, his loopy swing isn't likely to age well with declining bat speed. If we don't get drew, what options do we have to improve this team though? I'd go after Drew first. Next, I'd look to see if the Braves would move Jones. Then I'd go for Soriano, if he's still there. In reality, I'd hope Hendry would check on Jones during the GM meetings. If that looks like it won't go, I'd make simultaneous offers to Drew and Soriano, because it is uncertain who will sign first. My focus would be on Drew without losing Soriano if possible.
  7. In fact, rumor was that the Nats approached him again and tried to get him to reconsider, but he would not.
  8. Lee would not be a bad acquisition as he brings power to a line-up that is in dire need of it. However, Soriano or Drew would be better than Lee because they can play CF which is a position that we have a need to fill and would not supplant a young, cheap productive player. If we can upgrade the line-up without replacing Murton, that is the better course of action.
  9. If you're referring to Drew, it's not just walks. It's overall production. Furthermore, we wouldn't be asking Drew to learn a new position. Of course, if you love steals, why not get Roger Cedeno or just keep Slappy Pierre. See, everyone can make ridiculous comparison to bring down other's arguments.
  10. Yeah...the Expos is pretty sweet. I'd have the same feeling. I'd want a Cubs, but it would be hard not to go with the Expos jersey.
  11. Wow. That's pretty ridiculous. Matt Murton<<<< And Carlos pojects as a DH. Murton is NOT a 4th OF. He can hit WELL enough, and get on WELL ENOUGH to warrant being a LF. Besides...Murton is a bargain at his current contract, whereas Carlos Lee is more likely going to be a burden on some team salary. No question....Murton IS BETTER then Lee. On a high power team, he might be a good starter, but he reminds me of Jason Michaels and that is not special. If the Cubs could get power out of CF with either Soriano or Drew (or Andruw Jones if the Braves make him available), then Murton would be good for LF.
  12. And if it doesn't need to be a Cubs' jersey, this one is nice
  13. How's this? http://images.andale.com/f2/104/128/7926460/1120155792050_dawson_40.jpg
  14. I think I'm going to vote for Drew because he's what we need. He has a good slugging percentage with a great OBP. However, on a one year deal, I'd still love to pencil Bonds in between Lee and Ramirez.
  15. I forgot about Nomar. But Nomar also would have no where to play here.
  16. I'd rather go for Drew and Durham than Drew and Soriano. I don't mind Soriano, because we do need another bat. But I'm concerned about his performance over the life of the contract.
  17. Just for fun, I put up a poll to see where we all stand regarding the FA hitters.
  18. Before I'd pursue Soriano, I'd make a run a Drew. I'd rather offer Drew 4/52 than Soriano 5/73.
  19. As you make your choices, consider everything including contract implications for now and the future. Carlos Lee (age 30) 2006: 300/355/540 Career: 286/340/495 Alphonso Soriano (age 30) 2006: 277/351/560 Career: 280/325/510 J.D. Drew (age 30) 2006: 283/393/498 Career: 286/393/512 Gary Matthews Jr. (age 31) 2006: 313/371/495 Career: 263/336/419 Moises Alou (age 40) 2006: 301/352/571 Career: 301/368/516 Barry Bonds (age 42) 2006: 270/454/545 Career: 299/443/608

  22. How long have you been on the list? Since 2003. How does a person get on the waiting list? There is a link on Cubs.com, someone i Know recently used ut, he was 20,000 or so. I think there's a lot of people duplicated on that list.
