  1. I'm in a conundrum for this week. Dallas is my defense, but I have Colston and Duece playing against them. Also, I'll be rooting for Dallas to demolish the Saints.
  2. Looks like Hendry made a run at Padilla.
  3. If the Cubs sign both Lilly and Schmidt, it could be an indication that Hendry doubts whether he can extend Zambrano.
  4. My feeling is Hendry has feelers and offers out to multiple pitchers and will likely sign the first ones that take his offers.
  5. I don't care if he stands in the clubhouse and recites Peter's sermon at Pentecost and completes it with a Billy Grahamish invitation, if he can put up an 890 OPS in CF and he's only going to cost a Marmol or Mateo...do the deal! Then sign Bonds and let them locker next to each other and then they can whine about how misunderstood they are all the while leading the Cubs to a penant.
  6. Church is a good option...and whether it's for CF or bench, either one is fine. I figure he'll play his way into CF before long anyway.
  7. I agree that I don't think the Cubs have the players to get Baldelli as I think other teams could offer a much more attractive package. The Cubs might could overpay by sending two pitchers in the Marshall/Marmol/Mateo/Guzman group a player in the Moore/Patterson group and another pitcher in the Paweleck/Veal/Gallagher group. That deal could get the Rays attention as they would have two young pitchers to try for the rotation, a young infielder, and a pitching prospect to stock their minor leagues.
  8. In this season of Kentmas, let us reflect upon this.
  9. Mateo or Marmol for Church would be ideal. While we are in the market for pitching, we could deal one of Mateo or Marmol and still have Guzman, Ryu, Marshall and the one of that pair not dealt for the lower end if needed. Church might be able to take over CF full-time, and if not he'd be more valuable as a fourth OF than the pitcher would be for us. The Nats aren't going to contend, so they could be more patient with the pitcher as they struggle in the majors. If the Nats would bite, this one appears to be a no-brainer.
  10. The Washington Post mentions the Cubs as a possible destination for Church. Link. If the Nationals only want a pitching prospect, would a deal involving Mateo or Marmol work? The Cubs might could toss someone like Bynum or Pagan or Negron back in the deal to sweeten the pot.
  11. The Reds have offered Loretta a two-year, six million dollar deal. Link.
  12. Ryno getting back in the organization would be cool. Just don't let him get too close to managing the big league club.
  13. Only because human language cannot adequately describe the greatness of Kent. I guess Jeff Suppan must be great too; his career stats are basically just as average as Mercker's. When Jeff Suppan can pitch with anuerisms while drinking grey goose straight all the while saving the world from its sins, then he can be in this discussion.
  14. We've been reporting on pretty much anything significant as far as rumors. Wells is a player of interest, so I can see why there is an interest in any rumor involving Wells.
  15. The last week of the regular season will have no bearing on the playoff teams are the standings of those teams, unless Pantsless Mascots outscore me by 91 points to take the third spot. CutforCapSpace and I could swap the 2 and 3 spots, if I win and Cut for Cap Space loses, but we'd still match up in the first round. Your playoff pairings will be: The Football Team vs Pantsless Mascots Cut for Cap Space vs Smells Like Tuna.
  16. Rosenthal is backing off his ascertion now that Maddux is going to the Padres by saying Boras is now shopping for a better deal. Link.
  17. Philly, New York, Carolina, and Atlanta are all fighting for the playoffs. Even the seven loss teams stand a chance. I think the Giants will right the ship and make it. The other spot is up for grabs.
  18. I'm hoping the Cowboys can move up and take the second spot. I'm not optimistic, because they will need Seattle to lose at least once if not twice in the next four, and I don't see that happening.
  19. As of right now, the top four seeds would be in this order: Bears, Saints, Seahawks, Cowboys. The Cowboys play the Saints Sunday, so one of those teams will take a head-to-head avantage on Sunday as well as move up a game. So with a win the Cowboys move from 3rd to 4th. I'm assuming you mean from 4th to 3rd. Yes. Late tonight.

  21. You are right. Kentmas is a time of love toward everyone.
  22. Personally, I'd like the trade deadline extended some as well.
