  1. That took all of one post to completely derail. How is it derailing? The topic of the thread is what you'd do, and Vance answered what he'd do. Exactly. The thread asked what would "I" do. I'd go after Dunn with a full-court press. Of the players that might be available, I think he'd be a legitimate upgrade over Cliff Floyd. Now, in more detail, I'd like Posada over all the impending FA. But with the Yankees within striking distance of the wild card, he's not available. "Hip Hip Jorge" would be just what this team needs. But, if I could get Dunn for a package of Pie + Mateo + Holliman, I'd do that. Or mayvbe Murton + Wuertz or some variation of those deals without giving up a starter on the major league club, I'd do the deal without thinking twice. If we got Dunn, we could try him in right, or better, move Soriano to right and then put Dunn in left. His production whether we hit him 2nd, 4th, or 5th would be an improvement. I would not look to add a bullpen arm. The benefit in comparison to cost just doesn't wow me at all. I'd look at Dye, but unless he could be had for a low level prospect, I'd pass.
  2. Link. For those that still care about this...
  3. I'm glad to see a nice outing from Sean.
  4. I don't mind trading Pie for a true impact player. For a spare part, it would piss me off greatly.
  5. The Braves have a lot of depth in the minor leagues. This is making these moves possible.
  6. Olney indicated in his chat today that Tejada could be moved in a post waiver deadline move. How he'd get through waivers is beyond me, but Olney did float the idea.
  7. The Teixeira trade could be the first domino. The biggest bat is off the market. That should help move things along. I'm still not certain that this is going to be a highly active trading period, but I do expect to see Gagne, Dotel, and a few others moved.
  8. Jamie Newberg sent me this email about who the pitching prospects included in the deal are.
  9. This post wins the Ryan Dempster autographed card. PM your address if you want it.
  10. This is the winning post for the Brooks Kieschnick autographed card. PM your address and I'll get it out to you.
  11. This post wins the Will Ohman autographed card. PM me your address and I'll get it out to you.
  12. 3? This is the winning post. PM your address and you can receive the Kent Bottenfield autographed card.
  13. Ensberg hasn't been the same hitter since his shoulder injury. I'm not sure he'll ever find the power he showed in 2005. Furthermore, a lot of his power that season may have been a product of the Crawford Boxes.
  14. Stark echos a lot of what Rosenthal has written... Link.
  15. Speculation is that this trade means Ensberg is on his way out...maybe this week. Link.
  16. God only knows. Maybe they'll flip him. I think that they think they will be able to get back in this thing. They have the last few years anyways. Houston has never been one of the smartest cities in the US. However to their credit they have do have one of the largest stripper populations in the United States :-). They have some of the best Gentleman's Clubs in the nation. Treasures is truly an awesome place. If Vance knows anything about anything, this is the subject. :P I once saw a bunch of Cubs in there a night after a game. Of course, I wasn't paying any attention to the Cubs players at the time. That was probably the first time you've seen Cubs players and not gone up to ask for an autograph. I didn't give a damn about an autograph.
  17. Here's some of Rosenthal's comments on a possible Tex deal. If I were the Rangers, I'd take the Braves offer if it truly exists.
  18. Maybe the Orioles are going to eat some of that... Or maybe we can get the Orioles to take back Eyre and his salary.
  19. The Cubs get raped in that deal. And I don't think Texas is getting enough for both Gagne and Tex. It's a good deal for the Braves. Throw Renteria back the Cubs way and give the Braves back their minor league outfielder.
  20. If Payton replaces Pagan, then this isn't a bad move. Payton hits lefties fairly well. If he's going to spell Jones in CF vs lefties, he's an upgrade over Pagan. If we're getting Payton to use in RF, Murton is likely his equal. So, if Payton is replacing Pagan as the outfielder that can be used in all three outfield spots and give Jones a break against left-handers, it's not a terrible move....especially if it's for a couple of non descript prospects. If Payton is expected to replace Murton or the need for another big bat, I'm not all that happy with it.
  21. Kool-Aid comes in colors other than blue, you know. I was thinking it had to be something injectible or snorted....
  22. Hearing the Cardinal announcers, you'd think they were close to contention.
  23. I've given up on Dopirak. He needs to be removed from the 40-man. He's a non prospect in my opinion.
