  1. That was deep jack by Holliday.
  2. I'm holding out some hope for a Tejada deal or something like that.
  3. I'd rather make a serious run at Tejada or Renteria. Those two will be expensive, but they also are certain to be upgrades over what we have.
  4. I'll be there Wednesday and Thursday. Cardinal Club seat on Wed. and Redbird club on Thursday. Let me know if you'd like to meet to say hi.
  5. It's a risk...but it's one I'd be willing to take.
  6. If the buyer is selected, the time frame that is between the selection of the buyer and the close of the sale will not likely affect FA signings. In many cases, what happens is they old ownership will give new ownership the say in these things. So, if say an owner is chosen by the end of the World Series and that owner approved the signing of Zambrano, it would happen.
  7. Tejada is close to returning to action, and some say he might be back on Friday against the Yankees. If he is, he'd have four days to show he's healthy before the deadline. If he's back, he's a risky option. He was hitting 306/360/423 before going on the DL which would be a marked improvement over the production we've been getting from shortstop. But, he's coming back from a broken wrist, and sometimes those injuries can nag. Tejada also comes with a high price tag in terms of players to acquire him and in terms of dollars left on his contract- two more years at 13 million a piece. However, he's been a Hendry target in the past and makes sense now. Would the Orioles deal him? They certainly don't have to. He's not an impending FA, but it might be wise to get something for him while they can. What would it cost? The Cubs could offer a starting pitcher like Gallagher or Veal and then add to the package. Veal + Murton + Cedeno might intrigue the Orioles. If the price is right and Tejada looks healthy this weekend, he might be the target that best suits the Cubs' needs.
  8. I'm thinking if Tejada can come back in the next week and prove healthy, Hendry will make a last minute run at him.
  9. I'll be in the Cardinals Club, right behind home plate for Wednesday's game. I'll be watching this one from a hotel in Horn Lake, MS.
  10. From what I'm hearing in the national media and from friends who are strong followers of the Braves is that Escobar isn't going anywhere...and Salty is only going in a deal for a star caliber player.
  11. I think you might want Fontentot and Edgar to have a cup of tea and settle things. I think if we get Renteria's 335/392/487, we can leave Fontenot a copy of a text on how to build a bridge.
  12. According to the Braves message board, it was the White Sox who turned it down. They pretty much are glad, too. If JS is shopping Edgar, we need to get in the mix there. I wonder if we could somehow use prospects to acquire a starting pitcher who we could spin to the Braves for Renteria. Adding Renteria's bat would greatly improve the production we've gotten out of SS this season.
  13. Encarnacion is not horrible; he's just not good either. 2007: .281/318/463 2006: .278/317/443 2005: .287/349/447 He's consistently...meh. He's also not much in the way of a platoon player as he hits lefties worse than righties. I'd have to say no to Encarnacion. He's just not good.
  14. What if he doesn't become a free agent? That was why I said, unless they allowed to negotiate an extension. Sure it's not a dumb move if they can negotiate an extension. But to give up players without that assurance when you are out of the playoff hunt is dumb. True. However Dunn loves Bowden, and with the Nationals moving into a new park I don't think it would be too hard for them to work out an extension. You may be right, but that extension would need to be worked out in the 72-hour window. If not, Bowden would be incredibly stupid to just take a chance on it.
  15. If they think Dopirak is an elite prospect, I'd do Dopirak for Dye. :)
  16. What if he doesn't become a free agent? That was why I said, unless they allowed to negotiate an extension. Sure it's not a dumb move if they can negotiate an extension. But to give up players without that assurance when you are out of the playoff hunt is dumb.
  17. Unless they are allowed to negotiate an extension with Dunn, this would be a dumb move. Which is to say, I expect Bowden to do it. If he covets Dunn so much (which makes sense to me), why not just sign him when he becomes a FA.
  18. He has a nice fastball. Scouts think he might be a little injury prone because he is such a hard thrower. He has the potential to be a strikeout king. I've heard he's had horrible mechanics. Throws across his body...that sort of stuff.
  19. I'm tired of watching Cliff's struggles at the plate and adventures on defense. I think Pie should come up and play CF while Jones shifts to right, and Cliff shifts to the bench.
  20. This game sucks all around. Hopefully, they'll remember how to hit by the time they get to St. Louis.
  21. How do I get in on this action? Ryne has developed an affection for The Riot. You just did. The more you post in the game thread, the better your chances.
  22. Dave Smith was a pretty big bust as well.
  23. I like Bruce Froeming has been affecting the outcome of Cubs' games for years.
  24. If we could get the Braves to toss a young arm in return, I'd do Hill for Salty. For example, if the Braves would trade Salty + Reyes for Hill or Salty + Harrison, or Salty + Smith, I'd take the chance. I'm not sure I'd do Salty for Hill as an even exchange.
