    Ah...I found the Cubs broadcast. Thank god. I couldn't handle 9 innings of the pompous Brennamens.

    For some reason, it looks like I'll have to listen to the Reds broadcast. On the channel DirectTV740 it shows Cubs-Reds, but it has the Indians-Tigers instead...and that game is on 2 other channels as well.

    I've always liked Fontenot. I think he is best suited as a bat off the bench, but in the right situation would make an ideal LH part of a platoon at 2b.

    Another reason they won't cut Marquis or Lieber is depth. Marshall can be sent down without anyone being lost. We still have him if someone gets hurt. If we DFA Marquis or cut someone like Lieber, we lose those players. If we have injuries to the pitching staff, they might be needed.

    This move was expected. They weren't going to stash Marshall in the pen, and I didn't see us going with Marquis, Gaudin, and Lieber all in the pen either. I'm sure there will be some continued roster shuffling, and hopefully it ends with Marquis getting bumped from the rotation.

    Wells has a horrible contract. I would want no part of him.

    Getting Wainwright back may help, but I wouldn't count on anything from Carpenter. Not expecting Cy Young Carp back, but even at 85% he is better than most MLB starters. Also, they've taken his rehab slowly and not pushed anything. I think he'll at least be able to contribute, plus with Lohse, Looper, Piniero and Wainwright pitching well we won't need him to be lights out. It usually takes 18 months for a pitcher to come back fully from that surgery. He'll be able to throw, but I doubt he'll be the pitcher he needs to be. I may be wrong, but I'd bet that he's less than effective.
