  1. Post in more threads (while intoxicated), plz. Great. With Raisin's new avatar it's going to feel like he's yelling every post. Does that now mean that someone needs a Skip Bayless avatar?
  2. Redding has been a headcase everywhere he's been. Watching him implode in New York should be fun.
  3. If they have Welly and Mitre caliber prospects, they should be pitching them in the Majors. Their pitching is lousy. You do realize that Mitre (1.36 WHIP, .261 BAA, and 5.52 ERA) and Wellemeyer (1.42WHIP, .231 BAA, 4.74 ERA) don't look like top caliber players to a lot of teams. They may be players that might become that...and both have shown the ability to dominate, neither have done so. What about those two would make Texas think that they could help them enough this year to justify trading away a piece of their future? The Rangers rotation prior to Rogers injury and suspension was: Rogers (2. 46 ERA, 1.28 WHP, 253 BAA) PArk (5.50 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, 296 BAA) C. Young (3.33 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, .245 BAA) C. Wilson (7.15 ERA, 2.12 WHip, .715 BAA) R. Rodriguez (3.65 ERA, 1.22 Whip, .276 BAA) Mitre and Welly are better than Park and Wilson, but not any better than Young and Rodriguez. The Rangers released Drese who has performed at or near Mitre's level this year because of inconsistencies. On the farm they have Thomas Diamond (not quite ready) and lefty John Danks. They've shuttled Juan Dominguez back and forth and he's about Welly talent-wise. Welly and Mitre aren't going to be enough to get a key piece of their team. They might give us Delucci for one of them. Throw in both and an outfielder and we could have Hidalgo. We just don't have the player that would make them trade Mench. They don't want quanity, they'll want quality. Zambrano is the closest we have to what they're looking for. We wouldn't, nor shouldn't do that. That's why there isn't a match between the two teams to net Mench.
  4. I don't even think Benifest is that dumb....but if he is, that would be nice. Its Dave Littlefield. Oops. That's right...Benifest is Florida, right?

  6. I'm still thinking Lawton might be a decent option. How much would the Pirates really expect to get for him? I don't know why his name isn't being thrown around a little bit more. I'm sure we could get him for a modest package of players since the Pirates will be losing him in the offseason. Assume we could get Lawton for a package of Leicester and Brownlie. We could put this line-up out there: 1. Lawton LF 2. Walker 2B 3. Lee 1B 4. Burnitz RF 5. Ramirez 3B 6. Barrett C 7. Patterson CF 8. Perez SS Lawton consistently puts up a .350-ish OBP. He gives a fair amount of slugging as well. He's not the best option, but he surely isn't a poor option.
  7. According to MLB.live on XM, Rogers will NOT be paid during his suspension.
  8. On Saturday, the Cubs try to even the series with the Nationals. Jerome Williamshttp://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/425532.jpg (1-2, 4.91 ERA; 1-0, 2.00 ERA as a Cub) takes the mound against Armas http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/150393.jpg(3-4, 5.44 ERA). It's time for the Cubs to start some winning. Losing sucks and frankly I'm tired of the inconsistencies. Armas sucks. There's no reason we shouldn't light him up like the night sky on the 4th of July. In Williams last start with the Cubs he showed flashes of the pitcher who went 7-5 with a 3.30 ERA in 2003. That's the pitcher we need. We need Derrek Lee to keep showing everyone why he's the best hitter in the National League. We need Corey Patterson to remember and start playing like a major leaguer and not a little leaguer. We need Dusty to start Cedeno and not Neifi. We need a healthy Ramirez. We need a freaking win! Let's go Cubs!
  9. I think it is appropriate. The camera man wasn't antagonizing him. He was simply doing his job. If you don't like being on camera, you shouldn't be a professional athlete. That's like being a teacher but not wanting to deal with children. This sends a message to all baseball players. You cannot take out your frustration on the media.
  10. Come on. Those pitches aren't even close to the zone. Even if he swings and somehow makes contact with that, it certainly won't be good contact. Corey's been robbed out of 2 ABs. Agreed.

  12. No, Corey looked at ball one. The ump is blind!
  13. It's not that simple. The only deals available now are players we're not too excited about, ie Preston Wilson. I don't buy that. Last year Beltran was had before the deadline. There are guys out there that gms know about. There's no players like Beltran available this year. Beltran was a unique situation. He was an impending FA on a team with no chance that everyone knew they couldn't afford. Who have you pegged that fits that description this year?

  15. Those pitches were really inside....but based on strike one and two, Corey needed to at least swing at number three.
  16. He K's the side but let's Guillen hurt him. We need to get that one back. Go Cubs!
  17. That is one god-awful statistic. But hey, a K is always the same as every other out eh? So would you think more of Dunn if his 19 hits the past 3 seasons with a runner on 3rd less than 2 outs were actually just routine flyballs to center-field? Would he be more valuable if instead of having 6 HRs in this situation, those homeruns stayed in the park instead of leaving? I know you're thinking Dunn must be a horrible player with a runner on 3rd less than 2 outs because of his lack of sacrifice flies, but once again, the stats show that Dunn is awesome. .268/.433/.620 and he has 57 RBI in 71 ABs. but yeah i agree since dunn drove in runs by slugging the ball instead of hitting flyouts he sucks and is overrated .268 isn't that good, especially for a 'great' player. And what good is a walk in that situation? It's better than an out, sure, but it's not what you need. It's certainly not what a 'great' player is trying to do. But hey, the guy is only batting .242 this year, lifetime .248, so I guess you can't expect too much. Pretty good tho - 57 rbis in 71 abs, tho the bbs are taken out. He's only K'd 25 times in that situation is surprising, tho still not very good. But you don't go that long without a sacrifice fly for a reason.... Just to refresh from earlier in the thread, I've always said I wasn't sold on Dunn, and that I needed to see 2 good seasons in a row from the guy. He's doing pretty well this year - very Dunn-like. SBs are way down - the guy is going to be a real liability in LF in a few years. He really should go to an AL team where he can DH towards the end of the long term contract he'll get. Not good, huh? So what is the league average in that situation then? Prove that those numbers aren't very good before dismissing them. Man that sounds like a lot of work, and I really should do some work that I get paid to supposedly do... and anyway, are you trying to prove Dunn is an average player or a 'great' player. I'll certainly agree that Dunn is at least average. It's 'great' that I'm still reserving judgment on. No, but I'm trying to prove that even in the area of his game where his detractors try to say he is weak, that he is above average. I'd say a 25 yr old with a 900 career OPS is at least very good and has the potential and is on the cusp of being great, yes.
