  1. I believe that should be Nichols State....assuming you are referring to the university in Thibideaux. Done! Thanks! No problem. I had an ex-girlfriend whose father was a professor there. I don't think he cared for me, but none the less, I'm familiar with the university.

  3. Will you go ahead an do it now and then come back later and report on the results?
  4. :lmao: Chix4free rock!
  5. ChiCubsFan once again sent me a list and selects Plaxico Burress, WR.
  6. Agreed, the million and a half :wall: 's in every post is getting annoying. That's not the only thing that's annoying....
  7. I can't think of any reason the Pirates would trade Bay. If we're going this route, we might as well speculate on trading for Miguel Cabrera, Joe Mauer, and David Wright too.
  8. I think this needs to be posted. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/vance_the_cubs_fan/cubsweep.jpg
  9. There is much more to New Orleans than jazz. I appreciate your love for that part of its culture, but your rambling about it also trivializes many of the real reasons New Orleans should be rebuilt.
  10. Welcome, Len. Glad you stopped by. Hope to see you around some more. I've enjoyed listening to you in the booth this season.
  11. I might watch this game...or I may take my wife to the movies.
  12. Vegas is only representing what they believe to be the best route to go. While I disagree that Pujols should be the MVP, I'll be clear to say I think he will be the MVP. I wouldn't put any money on Lee.
  13. It appears Albert Pujols is being bothered by the same foot ailment that troubled him last season. While the Cardinals playoff spot is a given, they really need to get this taken care of. It seems as if it could be a recurring problem for Pujols.
  14. What is all the rest of Clemens' numbers were not better? Clemens has more walks, less K's, less CGs and less innings. Hell he only has one complete game. He is almost averaging an inning less per start than Carpenter. Clemens also has only one start in which he's allowed three or more runs.
  15. There's more to it than ERA. WARP and other stats that are much more telling of a pitcher's performance indicate that Clemens has had the better season. I prefer to judge players for awards that aren't so dependent on the abilities and efforts of their teammates.
  16. Berkman put up a .290/.400/.588/.987 line during his time at CF during the 2002 season which was actually better than his overall season averages for the same stat lines. Why let stats get in the way of an argument formed entirely on opinion? Sorry, I should know that stats don't show the real story. Yeah shouldn't we all....
  17. Yeah !! Where the heck have you been ?? I've pretty much given up the game threads for lent.
  18. Show me the stats that make Clemens more deserving than RJ? He was clearly not the best pitcher based on stats other than wins. Now Clemens is on the other side of the argument and you think he deserves the award again. Come on there has to be a little common sense used here. And no I am not looking up or referring to your or anyone's post from a year ago. Roger's stats last year: 18-4 ERA 2.98 K's 218 214 innings 1.16 whip RJ's stats last year: 16-14 ERA 2.60 K's 290 245 innings .90 whip And I've said, as have others, that Johnson deserved the award last year. Clemens deserves it this year. Just because the voters, in my opinion, got it wrong last year, doesn't mean they should get it wrong this year too.
  19. Wow...only four pages of a game thread.
  20. I likely would have given the award to Johnson last year, and I still believe Clemens deserves it this year.
  21. Put yourself in the shoes of a businessman or homebuyer looking to return to New Orleans after the water is drained. Now that you've seen what a cat 4 hurricane can do, would you invest hundreds of thousands or in some cases many millions of dollars to construct or repair a building before a new containment system is built - one can that withstand a cat 5 hurricane? How could you justify such a reckless decision to stockholders or family members? I certainly could not, nor do I think many other people could. Another question - what bank would be foolish enough to issue loans to people reckless enough to rebuild before a better containment system is in place? How about insurance? I can't see how rebuilding can begin with the same crappy levies. Those "crappy" levees existed just fine for many, many years. There's just as strong a liklihood that a massive earthqauke takes out LA or SF and yet they still loan businesses money to build there. Based on your logic, we should stop building along the fault lines on the West Coast until they can erect a system that would protect all those people and lives as well. We should also stop building on Miami because that area has been hit by more hurricanes than the Louisiana gulf coast.
  22. You think his 4.47 ERA is worth $9 million? It's Hendry's fualt for giving him the contract, and allowing him to have a vesting option, which BTW is only 3.2 innings away now. Were you glad to have Maddux last year at 6 million? The only way we were able to get him in 2004 is to sign him to this contract. It's the nature of the beast. so does that mean the sosa deal was good, since we liked having him at the beginning? how about jim thome? It's the nature of long term contracts. We often like them at the time they are signed, but often by the end of the contract, the player isn't producing at the value and we gripe about that. We'll likely see the same this offseason as well. Giles is likely worth 10 million a year, but will he be worth 10 million in the last year of what will likely be a 3-4 year deal? Who knows. If we sign him there will be those glad that we did who likely will then complain if in the last year his skills have declined. At the same time, if we pass on him because of those terms, there will be multiple criticisms that we did nothing. The same will be said of Damon and others this year. On the same front, had we let Sammy walk rather than signing that contract, there would have been numerous complaints at the time. That's why it is easier to do what we do than be a GM. That being said, I'm not all that critical of the Maddux contract. I'd prefer not to have him at 9 million next year, but that was an effect of having him for 2006. To criticize it now when I didn't then to me is a bit hypocritical. It's why I never criticized the Sosa deal. I would have signed the same thing. I felt Thome's deal was too long and for too much money at the time. I feel the same about Beltran's deal as well. In the same vein, there have been those critical because we didn't sign those deals either, but I'm also sure that some of those same people would be critical of the deals in the back-end had we signed them. The truth is there will always be a risk factor involved in those contracts. Most long term deals turn out bad in the long run, yet there are those saying if Hendry sticks to his policy of deals that rarely exceed 3 years, we'll be severely hampered in signing FA. At the same time, if he does sign long term deals, more likely than not, we'll have deals that we aren't happy with at the backend.

  25. For the most part, the levees still exist. There were three main breeches in the levee system, the largest being the 17th street breech on the levee holding back Lake Pontchatrain. The levee system surrounding the oldest part of the city along the Mississippi River held. There was a smaller breach along the Inter-coastal canal. Those levees could be repaired quite easily. That would give the city protection equal to what existed before..ie protection against a Cat 3 hurricane. While I think they will want stronger levees that that, most would likely return while those levees are upgraded. What will take the longest, is actually the environmental clean-up. It's going to take 80 days or so to dry out the city. Then the water lines will need to be flushed and repaired and the power grid restored. At that point, we'll be able to truly assess the damages to buildings and homes. The French Quarter itself seems to be in relatively decent condition from the reports I'm getting. Other parts of the city not so much. The bridges across Pontchatrain and the I-10 interchange will need to be repaired. My guess is that French Quarter residents could be back sooner than later, but I think 5-7 years is extremely on the long side of the estimate. The people will return. Maybe not all of them, but they will.
