  1. Yes, his number should be retired. Time heals all wounds and one day it will heal this one too. By the time Sosa enters the HOF and we're ready to retire his number, I figure Baker, Hendry and MacPhail will all be gone.
  2. 303/354/468 from a 2b, yet some still want to trade him.
  3. I don't see Anaheim signing an outfielder. They already have a lot of cash tied up in that OF in Vlad, Garrett, and Finley.
  4. Except Walker gets more extra base hits than Furcal, so he doesn't always have to steal a base to get into scoring position. I'm not sure that kind of money is worth some stolen bases. Also, the Braves don't want him back. If they felt he was that important to their team, I think they'd find a way to keep him around. They usually aren't wrong about these types of things. Are they going to put Wilson Betemit @ SS?? I think that is likely.
  5. I like to go on gut instinct, tea leaves, and wind direction. All of which say say Walker is cheap and productive. Cheap and productive are good things unless someone has changed the rules of MLB. auggiedoggie is that you? Nah...auggie would make up stats. I think the answer to why teams let Walker go can be found here. haha, remember when i made cool posts hope everyones happy will all-lowercase non-sensical ramblings instead You should do it again! Your Nomar thread was one of the best ever!
  6. Good. We need just one game without any complaining. Nope. There is no reason for Zambrano to still be in there now. The score is 12-3. He should not have come out for the 8th.
  7. I'd fire Baker and name an interim manager. I'd trade Burnitz, Neifi, and Macias if anyone was interested. Murton would start every day if left, Cedneo every day at short, and Fontenot would get a look at a number of positions.
  8. Six-fingered a little upset. I think he was telling the ump where he was going to put that sixth finger.

  10. The six fingered freak is about to come in to pitch.
  11. It could have been that the Sox and Reds had an agreed upon deal that Griffey nixed.
  12. I guess this thread is the best I know to ask this question: Will Sosa play next season? If so, who will sign him? What kind of deal do you anticiapte him getting?
  13. 4 years for a 27 year old is not that big a deal. It's not the same as offering 4 years to a 32 year old. 4 & 32 works for me. That what Renteria got right.. Renteria got 4/40, Cabrera got 4/32. Let's just do 4/36 and call it a deal!
  14. My grandfather played minor league ball, class B (and then some semi-pro) during the 1920'a-1930's. He only played sparringly after meeting my grandmother in 1933 while working for the CCC in Louisiana. He joined the army in the mid thirties and that ended his playing days. My grandfather died when I was two, and so I never got to talk to him about his playing days. Recently, my grandmother found an old picture of him in uniform. It appears that it was cut from another photo, but I did make out the name "Danville" across the uniform. I've learned there was a Danville team in Illinois during 1922-1932 in the Three_I League. I also know that Danville, VA has had a minor league team, but I don't know yet if there was a team during the time he was playing ball. I'm trying to learn all I can and see if I can trace down some info about him and maybe the players he played with. If any of you know some sources I could look in, I'd appreciate it. The only major leaguer I know he played with was Joe Adcock. There may be others, but I'm still trying to find out information.
  15. We might win today. Not that it matters, but a win is a win.
  16. Let me go record saying I want no part of Piniella managing this team.
  17. My guess is Cedeno would be moved to second, become a utility player, or traded.
  18. The reason I'd choose Furcal over Damon is based on the age of Damon vs the age of Furcal.
  19. 4 years for a 27 year old is not that big a deal. It's not the same as offering 4 years to a 32 year old.
  20. The Riot has no votes.
  21. This likely is the end of the road for Remlinger. So, should we now discuss Remlinger's case for the HOF? :P
  22. Rather than go on speculation, let's go on what we do know. Defense has not been a problem for this team. Offense has. Walker is one of the top hitters on the team. With Ramirez on the DL, he's likely the best hitter not named Lee. Walker has an affordable option for 2005. While it may be fun to speculate why Walker has bounced among teams, no one has any "proof" that he is a cancer or anything otherwise. Rather than get rid of a great 2B option for next season and thereby create another hole to fill in the offseason, the Cubs should concentrate on other areas.
