  1. If Abreu really is available I hope Hendry is thinking seriously about putting together a package for him. It also re-inforces the view that Bradlet can be had for almost nothing. Mitre for Bradley, please.
  2. What if the three team deal is with the Rangers? Rangers get Mitre, Walker and Delgado. Marlins get Patterson, Nevin, Nolasco, and another Cubs prospect. Cubs get Pierre and Mench Cubs have a line-up of: CF Pierre SS Furcal (if they sign him) 1b Lee 3b Ramirez RF Mench LF Murton C Barrett 2b Cedeno/Neifi/Hairston
  3. Very interesting. The Dodgers, Tampa or Phillies perhaps? My guess it's part of a trade that moves Lowell to the Dodgers and brings Pierre to the Cubs. Good point. A major move would be to get Bradley for the Cubs but watch the Fish be the ones that nab him. That makes no sense. Why would the Cubs want Bradley if they have Pierre? Bradley can play rightfield. If he can return to his 900 OPS, he wouldn't be a bad option for RF.
  4. Very interesting. The Dodgers, Tampa or Phillies perhaps? My guess it's part of a trade that moves Lowell to the Dodgers and brings Pierre to the Cubs.
  5. How about these moves, predicated on the fact that we sign Furcal to a four year deal. 1. Cubs get: Castillo, Bradley, and Lowe. Marlins get Nolasco, Walker, Cubs prospect. Dodgers get Lowell and 2 million from the Cubs. 2. Cubs trade Cedeno and Mitre to the Rangers for Mench. Leaves us with this: SS Furcal 2b Castillo 1b Lee 3b Ramirez CF Bradley RF Mench lf Murton C Barrett We'd have to use roster filler for the bullpen and bench, but our rotation would be Prior Zambrano Wood Maddux Lowe We'd also have very good defense up the middle.
  6. You really think that Baker would start Cedeno over Perez? Pierre AND Furcal would bounce Perez out of the top 2 spots at least. Who's the best hitter between Furcal and Pierre? Whoever that is I would rather have them hit first. The reason I bat Furcal second is that he has a little more pop than Pierre. But you can flip flop the top two..it really doesn't matter.
  7. I found this interesting during my morning reads. The article also goes on to dispel the notion that Matusii would only play for a New York team as well. If Matsui hits the market, I'd make him my number one target for rightfield, and yes, I'd give him a J.D. Drew 5/55 contract.
  8. I think this line-up wouldn't be too bad: CF Pierre SS Furcal 1b Lee 3b Ramirez RF Guillen LF Murton C Barrett 2b Cedeno Sign Furcal as a FA. Trade for Pierre and Guillen.
  9. I also do get the sense that Hendry feels Juan Pierre can rebound from his not-so-good OBP in 2005. My sense is that he'd want Dusty to bat Furcal first and Pierre 2nd if he got both of them. Furcal Pierre Lee Ramirez Above average right fielder? Murton Barrett Cedeno I'd be happy with that lineup. That lineup definetly lacks some power....... we would definetly need a 30+ homer type player in right. Could we get Jose Guillen for right?
  10. Cubs get Luis Castillo, Derek Lowe, Milton Bradley Dodgers get Mike Lowell and 2 million from the Cubs. Marlins get Walker, Nolasco, and Fontenot.
  11. When you have an endless pool of minor league talent to fill your lineup holes with, it doesn't take a genius to win. His postseason managing, however, is atrocius. I can accept Guillen more, simply because he really made no managerial mistakes the entire post season. In the NL, I might have considered Frank Robinson or Ned Yost. In the AL, Mike Scoscia (sp?) or Eric Wedge. You do know that these awards are voted on prior to the post season don't you?
  12. How about this wacked out three-way trade: Cubs get Dunn, Cameron, and Glavine. Reds get Heilmen, Petit, Murton, and Mitre Mets get Zambrano
  13. I felt Cox deserves it. I hate Guillen, but he deserved it as much as anyone in the AL.
  14. I still think its a shame that you'd list one of the classiest individuals, who truly played the game the right way, on a list of most hated ballplayers. I don't think it's necessary to like the guy or even root for him, but to put him on a list of disliked players...man.
  15. Why does he have to "greatly" outperform...why isn't it who outperformed? While it is close, Lee had the better season. Pujols may have finished stronger, but his strong finish didn't completely overcome Lee's strong start. Yes, the numbers are close, but when taken altogether, Lee still has the greater numbers. Give the award to the best player, in this case, Derrek Lee. If it's an individual award, the abilities of the players around him shouldn't come into factor.
  16. No rumblings. Just throwing it out there if we can't get Giles. There are more good pitchers available in free agency than good bats. If trading Zambrano meant getting Abreu, and then the Cubs turned around and signed Burnett, I think that would be okay. I'm worried about Zambrano's health. Zambrano is 2 years away from free agency - if he signs 1-year deals (Boras is his agent) the Cubs will pay him $5-6M in 2006 and $8-10M in 2007. For that same amount, you can probably get Burnett signed for the first 2 years of a 4-year deal. The Cubs had a chance to trade Lieber and a prospect for Rolen during Spring Training a few years ago. They didn't do the deal. 4 months later, Lieber is having TJ surgery, and Rolen went to St. Louis. If the Phillies offered Abreu and some cash for Zambrano, I'd do it. I'll reiterate - Brian Giles is my first focus. Do you think we could get Abreu, Padilla, and one of Hamels or Floyd for Zambrano and Williams or Hill?
  17. Did Hendry ever say he wanted to stockpile good pitching? :D Do the Phillies have a 4th or 5th starter they can move to the Cubs? I see a Z and Hill for Abreu and that 4th or 5th guy. Padilla, maybe? I'd like to get Cole Hamels or Gavin Floyd back if possible.
  18. Hoops, wouldn't trading Zambrano to the Phillies fly in the face of Hendry's desire to stockpile pitching? And, are you just speculating on Zambrano going to the Phillies, or have you heard rumblings that it is seriously being discussed. What would be the Cubs rationale for making such a trade?
  19. With Baldelli and Crawford locked up to long term deals, I expect Huff will soon find himself with a new team. Gomes also might be had through a trade. With Delmon Young on the way, it's doubtful you would want him blocked.
  20. I don't think Furcal will pick 2B for the Mets over SS for the Cubs. If the money is equal, I think you're right. On the other hand, I've gotten wind of a far-fetched rumor that has the Mets dealing Matsuii in the above deal, dealing Reyes for Soriano, and then signing Furcal to play SS.
  21. The Cubs will have to decide whether to tender Macias a contract. His situation is the same as Hairston and Patterson.
  22. According to Rumor Central on ESPNInsider...
  23. I'm glad the Cubs have realized the importance of a lead-off hitter. I just wish they valued OBP over speed for the position. But recognizing that it takes a talented player and targeting that is a good sign.
