  1. If I had Jimbo's ear, we'd be signing Giles. Even at 5/$55? Reports are that Riccardi is denying that he's made a five year offer. Link. But I would offer Giles 3/40 or 4/50.
  2. i think he'll do just fine there. He won't be expected to close and will likely have a little greater margin for error considering the Yankee offense.
  3. If we land Furcal, trade for Bradley by using Patterson, send prospects to Florida for Castillo, and then Cedeno for Wilkerson... =P~ Furcal SS Castillo 2b Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Bradley CF Wilkerson RF Murton LF Barrett C
  4. Hotlantadugout.com is reporting that the Yankees and Farnsworth have agreed to a 3/17 contract. There's no confirmation on any national media site. Several NY Yankee message boards are running with it as well. Take it with a grain of salt.
  5. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=chc Based on that link, Aardsma is on the 40-man. The asterik by Aardsma's name refers to a statement below that he is not on the 40 man active roster. By your interpretation, then Marmol, Marshall, Ryu, Nolassco, Dopirak, and Pie aren't on the 40-man either since they all have astericks beside their names as well. I guess we're losing Pie in the Rule five draft.
  6. Now, if we can get Bradley for Patterson, things line-up even better. Trade Patterson for Bradley. Sign Furcal. Trade Pinto, Cedeno, + others for Castillo. Trade Walker for Ibanez. Furcal SS Castillo 2b Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Bradley CF Ibanez RF Murton LF Barrett C Every player in that line-up is capable of a 350+ OBP and a 750+ OPS.

  8. I still haven't given up hope that we could get Castillo from the Marlins fire-sale. That would be an amazing IF. Yes, it would. Imagine if the Cubs signed Furcal 5/50. Trade Walker for Bradley. Sign Encarnacion for RF. Trade Pinto and Cedeno for Castillo. Furcal SS Cedeno 2b Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Bradley CF Encarnacion RF Murton LF Barrett C That line-up could win and it would be very good defensively as well.
  9. I still haven't given up hope that we could get Castillo from the Marlins fire-sale.
  10. If we sign Furcal, we could do a lot worse than moving Walker for Bradley. Signing Furcal and trading for Bradley would leave us only one more hole to fill, whether that is RF or CF depends on where you want to play Bradley. While I would think you could Bradley for cheaper and use Walker in another deal, I could live with this acquisition.
  11. A Wilkerson-Bradley combo in CF/RF would make me very happy indeed.
  12. I think that article also implied that Hendry will be seeking a RF via trade.
  13. Of all the places other than the Cubs he could play, Toronto suits me just fine. Riccardi also has a lot of money to play with. Ownership there gave him a three-year budget last year rather than a year-to-year budget. The announcement came after most of the premiere FA had signed, so Riccardi din't add to last year's payroll knowing he'd have lots of cash to spend over the next two years. It looks like he's planning on doing it too. If Giles signs for 5/55, I really can't fault Hendry for passing on him.
  14. I don't know why people aren't interested in Wilkerson's 350 OBP in CF.
  15. Link Pretty cool idea if you ask me.
  16. Looks like Howry will be at Wrigley today for a formal announcement. Link
  17. More in URL I've pretty much been thinking the same thing all along.
  18. If the Diamondbacks get Wilkerson, they will have to move an outfielder (Green, Gonzalez, Tracy) or a corner infielder (Jackson, Clark, Glaus) somewhere.
  19. Bradley would be a great option for CF and isn't a bad option for RF. If the Cubs sign Furcal then trade or sign Bradley, the team will be improved.
  20. I guess we'll know soon enough the validity of this post.
  21. lol. that'd be great. i used to live in shreveport and that was a nice town for local sports. Shreveport once had a AA in the Texas League. (Giants affiliate, I believe) That team was purchased and is now in Frisco, TX. There's an independent league team that uses the stadium there, but I think Shreveport could support a higher quality team. It's 90 miles from Monroe to Shreveport, but if the Cubs affiliate were there, I'd probably buy season tickets.
  22. Haven't you heard? It doesn't matter. It's not their fault that their super tough schedule ended up being weak, so you can't hold it against them, and every other team plays weak teams, and they are Notre Dame and God loves them and so does Lou Holtz so they belong in the Fiesta Bowl. God's loving them isn't near as important as the BCS loving the money Notre Dame generates, if you could take off the "I hate ND" blinders for just one second. Why is it that anytime someone claims ND doesn't deserve it, they have "blinders" on. I think it's more likely the ND fans have "blinders" tahn the fact that non_ND fans have them. Of course. Because since ND fulfilled the requirements to get into the BCS, all Irish lovers have blinders on. That makes all the sense in the world. What else do you want ND to do anyway? 10-1? 11-0? 13-0 on an 11-game schedule? What could possibly prove to anyone that this team is BCS-worthy? Considering there are other one-loss teams that could get left out, yes I'd expect them to be 10-1. What do you expect Oregon, Auburn, UCLA, Miami, or West Viginia to do? Why is ND deserving over those schools? They're not, except for $$$. Somehow, I don't really think that should matter. Also, what more did you expect TCU to do? They only lost one game. Should they have to be perfect to get into a BCS game? So, yes. Based on the fact that I count 9 one-loss schools, maybe ND should have lost one fewer and I would think they deserve a BCS game. Or maybe they should have played more ranked teams. I just don't see ND as more deserving than Miami, UCLA, Auburn, or Oregon to begin with.
