  1. Clement signed a 3yr 25 million dollar deal. I'm not sure how the money breaks down specifically, but he's roughly owed 17 million over the next two seasons. Here's a link to the article announcing the deal.
  2. Now that the Red Sox have traded for Beckett, would they entertain the idea of trading Clement? I know it's more likely that they'll trade Wells, but right now they have the following pitchers: Beckett, Schilling, Wells, Clement, Arroyo, Wakefield, and Papelbon that could fit into the rotation. How does a return of Clement to Chicago sound? What would be the cost of such a move as well? Personally, I'd like for the Cubs to look into it.
  3. The CF joke was in regards to Furcal, not Giles. I think the Yankees are legitimately interested. Torre wouldn't be calling on their bahalf if they weren't. I personally don't think Giles wants to play there, but he'll use the Yankee offer to try to up the ante for other teams.
  4. Hendry just wants to wait until December 24th so it's like a christmas present for everyone. He's very thoughtful that way. I've always been a fan of doing the holiday shopping early.
  5. I still believe that Portland is the logical place to place a team, but a suitable stadium will have to be built first.
  6. If Hendry would make a 3/39 offer, we could have Giles right now.
  7. I'm not so sure Giles wants to go to New York. He's yet to return Torre's phone calls. That to me, along with the fact he's included New York in every no-trade agreement he's ever had, indicates he has no true interest in the Yankees.
  8. Get ready to see Delgado, LoDuca, Pierre, and likely Castillo traded.
  9. Will everyone here complain in 2007 then if he hits the DL :? Yes.
  10. Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Padres are not likely to re-sign Giles. He lists the Cardinals, Mariners, Dodgers, and Yankees as suitors. No mention of the Cubs. It appears Giles's price is a minimum of 3/30. Why we won't go that high is a mystery, but according to Rosenthal (sketchy source I know), the Padres are out. I also found it interesting that Jacque Jones has set his price at 6-8 million a year. No way would I pay that much for Jones.
  11. From his chat: Oh please...
  12. If he performs at his 2003 level without any injury problems, the Cubs will pick up the option.
  13. Personally, I'd wish we'd return to these unis. http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/exhibits/online_exhibits/dressed_to_the_nines/images/nl_1911_chicago.gif
  14. I think Plaschke is full of it. But I've rarely read or heard anything by him that makes sense. I doubt there's anyway UCLA would beat LSU. I also have my doubts whether they would beat Auburn either.
  15. I agree Vance, Bienfest is building for the future. I think the future also may be the LasVegas Gamblers and a team flush with cash. Unless Loria finds a way to screw it all up. If they move to Las Vegas, they should purchase all the old Expos gear, sew on an "e'" and be the Las Vegas Expose'.
  16. I think everyone asks the Yankees about Wang and Cano because as far as young talent goes, that's it for the Yankees.
  17. What would happen if the Red Sox refused to deal him and he doesn't show up for camp? Could the Red Sox then suspend him and refuse to pay the millions left on the contract?
  18. I'm going to try to keep this as realistic as I can. I'd trade for Bradley. Player cost shouldn't be that high. I'd sign Furcal. I'd attempt to trade for Castillo. I'd sign Juan Encarnacion. Furcal SS Castillo 2b Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Bradley Cf Encarnacion rf Murton lf Barrett C
  19. rumor still Good, then I can still hope it doesn't happen. I'd rather have Dotel than two Howry's.
  20. Ok. I've been traveling all day, and this thread has ballooned to 20 premium pages. Did Howry sign or is it still speculation?
  21. they're ? Fixed. It's late. I should go to bed. I'm not.
  22. Obviously Dotel is going to command more money than Eyre, so wouldn't people complain even more? What's the difference? Dotel hasn't shown me anything that Novoa cant do - and I absolutely guarantee you thats how the Cubs view him. Dotel's recent numbers: 2002: 1.85 ERA, 173 BAA, 10.91 K/9 2003: 2.48 ERA 172 BAA, 10.03 K/9 2004: 3.69 ERA, 217 BAA, 12.87 K/9 2005: 3.52 ERA, 185 BAA, 9.39 K/9 If Novoa can do that, we don't need to spend money on Howry. There's nothing in Novoa's numbers that indicate he can be any where near Dotel's level. If the Cubs really view him that way, they're dumber than anyone has already portrayed them.
  23. If we're going to throw money at a set-up man, why not throw it at Dotel? Sure he's coming back from TJS, but he actually was dominating when he was healthy.
