  1. Two more SEC victories, but Auburn is getting the dog snot beaten out of them.
  2. So, basically Koufax is the only one of the ten year career guys you believe belongs?
  3. is that the one by ken ross? i think i have that, but have never read it. I don't have it handy, but I'm pretty sure that's the author. The book uses betting on baseball game outcomes as an elementary introduction to probability theory. Not at all what I thought it would be. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll make sure to pass on that. BTW....this thread has gotten me thinking. Would anyone be interested in an NSBB book swap?
  4. I'd go to http://www.visitmesa.com and book a package that will include your hotel and allow you to purchase tickets through the hotel. I did this in 2004 and got tickets in the third row right above thirdbase without the hassell of having to try to get through online.
  5. This may be true if things like speed and actually being on the field didn't matter. Walker's managers DO PH (remember he's lefty only), PR (he's 2/6 in SB in the last 3 years) and sub for him on defense (while Soriano's mgrs leave him in). And Walker gets hurt while Soriano doesn't. What you get then are the subs totals added to Walker's. That and the kind of difference that 30SB in 32 attemps can make means this isn't even close. Even if I concede that Soriano has more value than Walker offensively, it isn't enough to warrant giving up Jerome Williams to make that slight improvement.
  6. I think Soriano is living primarily on his reputation he established as a Yankee. His numbers have declined since then and have been masked by playing home games in AMFIA.
  7. i like how you still couldnt bring yourself to actually vote yes i actually forgot to vote CHECK IT NOW I don't think you're vote is helping much.
  8. I'd bet they'd rather move Soriano than Vidro just because of the circumstances. That doesn't make sense considering they just traded for Soriano. They gave up Wilkerson and Sledge to get him. That's a good bit of value. I don't see them "giving" him away. Secondly, Soriano will get 8-10 million in arbitration. That's a huge chunk of change. Considering we have Walker, who while is a different style of player, is nearly as productive as Soriano ar 2.5 million, I just can't see making this trade unless it's Walker + Wellemeyer or Walker + Patterson or Walker + Marmol and I doubt those deals get done. To give up Williams or Hill or Murton is ridiculous considering that Soriano would be here for one year and isn't likely to be much of an upgrade over what we have.
  9. RJ Jackson should compete at RB, no? He should. LSU has had some very good recruting classes lately. While Sabean was there, they had their pick of the very best in Louisiana and made in-roads into Texas and Mississippi as well as the entire Gulf Coast. Hopefully, Miles will continue that. Whooping the dog mess out of Miami should help in the recruitment as well. Maybe Sabean should give up on the Giants and go back to football. I kinda see LSU as the new Texas, not that Texas has moved on or up though. They'll always have great talent, it's just a matter of are they going to screw up a game or two over the course of the season that'll keep them out of the NC hunt. Well...I'll admit LSU always seems to drop a game they shouldn't each year. But unlike Texas (at least for now), LSU does have a national championship in recent years. Absolutely, the comparison wasn't meant to be a bad thing. For the forseeable future, LSU should be a NC contender and a top 10 team. Talent shouldn't be a problem. The biggest problem is playing in the SEC where it is very tough to win on the road. Auburn, Alabama and Georgia usually have very strong teams. Florida is good enough to beat you if you have a bad game. With Spurrier at SC, they're going to get better. It's really tough to run the table in the SEC.
  10. I have yet to be persuaded why we'd want Soriano on this team. If we're trading for one of Washington's superfluous secondbasemen, Vidro please.
  11. Are you kidding me? That is way too much to offer for Soriano. He's as bad defensively as Walker, so there's no upgrade there and his offense is only marginally better if it's better at all. So, that deal ends up Patterson, Williams, and Hill for Hernandez. I'll pass.

  13. I really hope the Astros sign one of those guys. I'm not even sure why they are interested in them. They have Lane for LF, Tarveras for CF and Berkman for RF if Bagwell can play. With Biggio and Burke, whichever isn't at 2b in the mix. None of those are impressive, but I can't see Burnitz or Wilson as an improvement over any of those guys.

  15. albert belle career ops+ 143 ralph kiner career ops+ 149 kiner had a pretty great league to hit in for some of those years too. So, basically, Kiner is better but only marginally so. I still think if Kiner is a HOF, so is Belle. There are basically only two legitimate arguments against Belle. 1. He didn't play long enough. (But then, why doesn't that apply to Puckett, Koufax, and Kiner?) 2. He was an SOB to pretty much everyone. (So was Ty Cobb, Eddie Murray, and others) Belle may not be a first ballot guy, but he should get at least 50% of the vote. It's a shame that people don't give him the respect that he's due. Would Puckett have gotten in had the stories of spousal abuse hit the papers prior to his election?
  16. After South Carolina was an embarassment to the SEC, LSU roared strongly over Miami, and today Bama and Florida are making a strong show. If Auburn and Georgia can get wins it will show the SEC is still a dominant conference.
  17. Considering Sammy's idol is Roberto Clemente, Sosa may have a lot of interest in playing rightfield for the Pirates too. (Of course Sammy is probably hoping to just land a job anywhere right now.)
  18. LSU is absolutely loaded at QB. Behind Flynn, is Ryan Perrilloux who is a freshman and may be more talented than both Flynn and Russell. I think LSU will miss Addai, but at least Broussard and and Vincent will be back next season. LSU will graduate quite a few defensive players, but hopefully will replace them with good recruting.
  19. Did he really say *an grossly*? Yep.
  20. Gary Gillette had this to say about Weiss.
  21. Gary Gillette on Hal Morris:
  22. Here's what Gary Gillette had to say about Jeffries.
