  1. I wouldn't trade for him if we couldn't work out an extension with him. Why not? Don't get me wrong I would love to have Santana signed to a long term deal, too. But, I would be willing to take a one year risk on him, with the hope that he would resign prior to the end of the season. The Cubs would have the rest of the winter and all season to get an extension worked out.
  2. It would be wonderful if Hendry could figure a way to pull this trade off. A 1-2 of Santana and Z would be pretty good. As far as signing Santana long term, we can only hope that the Tribune sells to someone with deep pockets that would be willing to sign him before he hit free agency.
  3. Can he play RF? define "play" If Floyd can handle RF with his gimpiness, I'm pretty sure Burrell could.
  4. Why do people always write this? False hope?
  5. Which one of their pitchers has Garza's upside? Sure Garza is young, but I don't see much about his numbers so far to get excited about. He is very hittable and allows way too many baserunners. Even Marquis had a better WHIP than Garza.
  6. What is the consensus as to who will be the weak link in the rotation between Dempster or Marquis? In the current market Marquis at 2/14MM is not a bad deal.
  7. Agreed, according to one article almost every team in baseball is willing to talk with Prior's agent if he is non tendered. Hendry would be a fool at this point to non tender him.
  8. But, Matsui will show up to the ballpark on time.
  9. I saw Cory Bailey pitch in Iowa this year, and he is nothing to get excited about. The day I went he was pitching in the low 80's and very hittable. I'm guessing that the Cubs are just keeping him around as AAA roster filler.
  10. I'm not against incentive laden deals, especially when you are dealing with someone with a history of injuries such as Wood. However, I am going out on a limb and assuming that the majority of the incentives will only be realized if Wood is very successful as the closer or a starter. $7MM+ for a middle reliever would be absurd.
  11. So that means Wood will be a Cub. good call
  12. Nice find! Dome has a unique stance and appears to play the game with a little attitude. :D Loved the youtube of him throwing out a runner at 1B from RF. The look on the batter's face was priceless. Also, don't speak a lick of Japanese, but those announcers really get into the game.
  13. 3/14MM would be a new low even for Jim Hendry.
  14. Does Kaplan ever had the inside scoop on anything? He seems to float all of these rumors to get people to listen to the show, and then most of the time they turn out to be nothing. I am real doubtful that Hendry would waste $14MM on the team's 5th or 6th 2B. I would think if the deal were truly close somebody besides Kap would be aware of it.
  15. So you'd prefer disgruntled Jacque at 5M on the bench rather than Infante at 2M on the bench? Why? Mainly because you are more likely to get better production out of Jacque than you are out of Infante.
  16. Is this a guess? If that is the case, why would a writer or the Cubs consider it newsworthy? I was looking at the transactions from last year and there is no mention of Prior or Wood being activated from the 60 day DL in November/December.
  17. Didn't see this posted anywhere. Anybody that is up on the rules for the 40 man roster, have any idea why the Cubs would activate these guys so early in the offseason? Possible trade?
  18. That is a terrible comparison. I don't think anybody in their right mind would make that argument. You are equally foolish if you don't think that it bothers ARod that he was on a team with a $200MM payroll for a few years and still couldn't get a ring.
  19. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. I rest my case. Jim Hendry is a real swell guy.
  20. And we should glorify it and show it to the world so that they can think all of our military is like this because of....? How many Movies are created showing all of the good things our military does for us, about how they risk thier lives every day fighting for us? Why not make a film about the many rapes of Iraqi women by their fellow Muslims? Or about how many U.S. troops have saved countless women from the mass raping of Uday and Qusay Hussein or the rapes by their fighting Sunni and Shi'ite co-religionists? Could go on and on. Those ideas you list are cliche. Do you really believe that the only way the other countries in the world get their perception of us is through Hollywood?
  21. Or Hendry uses the $3.5 - $4MM to fit Matsui into the budget on a 3/12MM deal?
  22. You aren't going to give us a good option? I would rather stick with what the Cubs have.
  23. Would you have paid money to receive a couple B or C prospects?
  24. Where is everyone coming up with $2MM? Jones contract was approx. $5.5MM + $1MM bonus Infante's contract in 06 was $1.3MM Even assuming Infante got a raise to $2MM, the Cubs still save approx. $3.5MM in salary.
