  1. First name that comes to mind is Paul DePodesta. Maybe he can get his old team to give up some of those young players like Kemp, Billingsley, Loney, etc that are such trouble makers. DePodesta was a GM for a total of 2 years. That hardly qualifies as "consistently above average." That is my problem with people that constantly complain about Hendry and how easy it would be to replace him with a better GM. Sure, potentially there are better GMs, but the names that keep getting thrown around are terrible. DePodesta? Hendry has had more success than Depodesta.
  2. I think that is the key for how I think about the job Hendry has done. 2 playoff appearances and at least one NLCS appearance since he has taken over. Sure he drives me crazy with his gunslinger attitude, trying to trade for anything and everything (Trachsel, Monroe, Lawton), but I can't think of a single GM in baseball that couldn't be critiqued for bad decisions.
  3. We will never know if it would have been a good trade or not. Pie might have gotten a chance to break in, and be lights out heading into the playoffs. The pitcher the Cubs were getting may have developed into a 1 -2 starter for years to come, so many intangibles. I'm glad Jacque stuck around and I hope he gets to win a ring with the Cubs. Great to see a guy who always seems like he is having fun playing ball. One thing that drives me nuts is his little attitude every time they ask him about the fans or the non-trade. He seems to have that Dusty, me against the world attitude. Sure, some fans are ignorant and have hated him from day one, but many more fans have understood that he just took advantage of the market, and like the way he plays. He needs to stop worrying about the minority of people that don't like him, and realize he has lots of fans that do.
  4. You've been on the board long enough to know that there is no such thing as chemistry. Baseball is not a team sport, like basketball or football, etc., etc., etc....................
  5. Yost isn't getting fired. The Brewers went without their ace for a crucial parts of the season and they were on the verge of their first playoff appearance in 25 years.
  6. Is Derosa still hung over? Thought maybe he would start and have at least an AB or two.
  7. About time!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
  8. Does CSN show Zambrano's velocity down in the 80's tonight ? Red's announcers keep commenting on Z's arm angle and his lack of velocity tonight.
  9. Why is Zambrano's fastball so slow tonight?
  10. I just realized that I will probably have to watch/listen to the Reds broadcast of the game. I used to love Thom B. when he was a Cubs announcer, but since he went to the Reds, he has acted like the Cubs shot his dog or something. He's almost Ron Santo-like in rooting against them. Was he mad that Chip and Len were picked over him, or did he leave on bad terms?
  11. One player on the whole list? Are all the Cubs top talents skipping Peoria?
  12. Not taking away from the conversation, but who is making the postseason pitching roster anyway? Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marquis, Wood, Eyre, Marmol, Howry and Dempster are locks. Who else am I missing? I think Hart has a outside chance of making it. Weurtz has got to be on it.
  13. I don't know what is worse, pitching Trachsel yesterday or saying your not disappointed in your 5th starter going 1-3 with an 8.31 ERA. To top it off, Trachsel actually thinks he had good stuff yesterday. Cubs might have lost by 10 if he had his bad stuff. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070927cubsbrite,1,3942748.story?coll=cs-home-headlines
  14. I thought Andy Masur was their play by play guy?
  15. Single to SS, Single to 3B this is madness.
  16. How does a person single to SS?
  17. He doesn't have many tools to use over there.
  18. Defense doesn't matter that much. :^o
  19. I will go out on a limb and say that Braun is never going to win a gold glove at 3B.
  20. Just saw the Pads lineup? How in the heck do they score any runs?
  21. 4 1/3 innings too late, there is no excuse for letting him start this game.
  22. Cubs are playing terrible today. Any team who pitches Trachsel in a game they need to win, deserves what they get.
