  1. I'm guessing by his posts, it is more likely he is from Cubs.com board.
  2. Truly funny, silly stuff. I notice you haven't really refuted any of this. I think you picked the wrong guy. Francoeur is making $427K this year. That is a hell of a value for his production. To break down his stats, exactly how many runs did he cost his team with his paltry .335 OBP? And since your the one proclaiming that his low OBP offset his clutch hitting and RBI totals, please explain your rationale. Speaking of the wrong guy. Anyway, I don't think anyone was talking about actual monetary value, Francouer has probably been worth 450K or whatever he's making. You're missing the point. I thought the thread title was dealing with clutch hitting, not the importance of RBI's? But since the discussion is changing, I would simply ask for proof that a guy with a .335 OBP and 100 RBI's is costing his team enough runs to offset his RBI total. I think you're still confusing names because I never said any of that. Sorry, I was too lazy to go back to the original post.
  3. At what point does the NL Central start to get respect? Sure they haven't sent the wildcard team in the last two years, but the last two NLCS champs were from the Central. I'm sure there aren't too many teams that are going to laugh off a best of 5 or 7 game series against the Cubs or the Brewers. Last 3 NL champs. I don't quite see how your response follows the part you bolded. My post had nothing to do with the strength of the Central. But the Central does regularly have 2 horrendous teams, and there's usually a 3rd that's not far off. Sure there are bad teams, but the Central is not the patty cake division that I wrongfully thought you were making it out to be. As far as the "higher ups", this year is do or die for Hendry. If the Cubs don't make it to the playoffs there is no viewing this season as a success. Not with all of the money and hype that was invested with this team. I do think that the marketing department and John McDonough(sp?) have done a remarkable job and will be commended regardless of what the outcome of the season is.

  7. I don't see how a player can be "anti-clutch", but then you just spent all that time arguing how a player can't be clutch. So it's not possible to be clutch, but one can be anti-clutch? Doesn't make sense to me. Since baseball is played by human beings and not numbers, you cannot discount the human aspect of the game. Today during the game they were talking about Dempster's performances in non-save situations. I'm sure that in some situations the adrenaline is not the same, and all players can't control the adrenaline in the same manner. However, when the game is on the line, Dempster's stats are pretty impressive. For those that don't like RISP, do you dispute that some closers perform better in clutch situations? And how is that different from clutch hitting?
  8. Classy guy. Does anyone know how his daughter is doing? Last time I heard, I thought she has lost vision in one eye. The story made it sound like she still had some vision. Is the disease one that comes on slowly and she will definitely lose all vision or does it affect one eye in some cases?
  9. Normally I would agree that teams may catch on to a new pitcher. However, Hart has some legitimately nasty stuff. It is not so easy to figure out how to hit a cut fast ball coming 92-93 MPH with that much movement. Even if the other team puts the ball in play, they don't seem to be able to hit it that hard.
  10. Lou pulled Monroe fairly early in the game today. Did he give an explanation during his press conference? Could that be the last we will see of Monroe?
  11. what are we doing with Blanco and his atrocious $2.8M (essentially $3.1M once you include the buyout) contract? I don't know, but do you have a healthy veteran player who you simply bench for all of September and then bring him back the next year? I would be surprised by that, but then again the other options are not all that likely either (cut-possible, trade-no, retire-probably most probable) I'm sure some team would gladly take Blanco off of the Cubs hands. He is still known as a defensive specialist, and his rep will land him somewhere.
  12. Lou has got to be furiuos with Monroe. He has played terrible since coming to the Cubs.
  13. How long is Lou gonna stick with Marquis? He is definitely not overpowering today.
  14. Kendall would have thrown him out there.
  15. I didn't know LaRoche was putting up those type of numbers. :o
  16. Those numbers don't mean a loss. They just mean that he is due.
  17. That was generous of Dillon to give the Braves a run. I can't wait to see his comment about how the Atlanta OF looked like they had a monster truck rally on it, with all the potholes and such. I understand why people are getting defensive about wrigley, because it is our home park...but the outfield did look like crap for that series; i was there every game and i saw it first hand. THe outfield has looked terrible ever since that concert, but it's gotten worse as of late, i think. it's visibly uneven. Radio guy for the Braves said it looked like Dillon stepped into a rabbit hole, just couldn't resist.
  18. Kendall has been awesome for 1 month. The other 2 months his OPS is in the 5's thats not good. Couple that with his terrible defense and inability to throw out King Kong Bundy trying to steal, and his performance with the Cubs has been subpar. There is plenty of reason to believe Soto could have put up better numbers on the average then Jason Kendall. Additionally, regardless of Soto's production, we would have a much better idea of what to do for Catcher next year. Ya, that is exactly what I am thinking about these last 2 months. And by the way, I still think Kendall has been awesome for this team I'm not sure I follow...I was trying to say that we should have started Soto regularly a long time ago to get a good read as to whether or not he could take over the starting job next year. Kendall is a defensive liability. Too many passed balls and not enough thrown-out baserunners. So was Barrett yet most people on this board looked past it in favor of his offensive strengths. Defense is overrated. You can't drive in runs with your glove.
  19. That was generous of Dillon to give the Braves a run. I can't wait to see his comment about how the Atlanta OF looked like they had a monster truck rally on it, with all the potholes and such.
  20. Does Bill Hall still play for the Brewers? If so, is he hurt?
  21. Why isn't Bob Brenly being mentioned as a serious candidate for any of the managerial openings? Don't get me wrong, I really like him in the booth, but he has to be one of the most underappreciated managers that has won a World Series ring.
  22. Am I the only one that finds this assessment to be highly dubious? A bigleague OF with potholes? I guess that would explain why Soriano is always jumping around out there.
