  1. You don't think there's more surface area with a glove to stop a ball? What I'm saying is that if your reaction time is so small that you can't get both hands up, then you're not going to get the glove up unless you're poised and ready to react like an infielder(which no one is while they're watching the game). I don't have a problem with ppl bringing gloves, (though I don't do it myself), but I can probably agree with what you're saying here. I think if you do react in time the glove might help, but yeah, few people probably have the reaction time for it to matter. I would personally rather have a glove to catch a line drive than try to stop it bare handed. Its alot less painful IMO.
  2. At a Twins game, on a foul ball straight back, I saw a guy drop his beer so he could get both hands high up in the air. The ball proceeded to hit him square in the forehead. He got the bad end of the deal with the beer and the foul ball.
  3. Tough crowd! Is a 3.41 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a strikeout per inning really "mediocre?" No reliever with those numbers will ever be considered "dominant" or "shut down." They're good numbers, but nothing that is that special. Thing is, 3 or 4 bad outings out of 35 or 40 will blow-up a relivers nos. in some cases. True, but there wasn't any breakdown like that for Fuentes specifically. Had he said "he has an ERA of XXX if you take out one or two bad appearances" that'd support that Fuentes is top notch as a reliever better than what he did. I don't know if Fuentes's stats are marred more badly by a small number of outlier appearances than the average reliever or not. 12 of 14 ER's from Fuentes have come in 4 games. I think it is safe to say that beside those few games (4 out of 41) he has been downright dominate. After allowing 5 runs on 6/30 he has not allowed a hit or walked a batter in his last 5 outings.
  4. I'm confused. Wasn't Rundle just promoted from Peoria to Daytona?
  5. Is anybody actually using that argument? That's it's not manly to wear a glove? I wear a glove all the time. But only when I'm, you know, playing. Isn't the rationale for using the glove in both situations the same? I guess that you could say that catchers are even bigger wimps because they have all of that extra padding.
  6. Agree 100% with this. The comeback by the Pirates was pretty amazing last night, and with injuries and a short bench, the deck was stacked against them. I actually enjoyed the annoucers getting that excited, just the same as I do when Ron goes crazy during walk off hits/homers.
  7. Yes, but can you trust AZ Phil? How do you really know he was there? Can you verify that he actually saw Hill pitch or could he have been just making it up? :) And the most important question to answer....Does AZ Phil know how to count?
  8. 5IP no runs, had rough first inning but after that his line looked like he was dominating.
  9. Was Harden in trouble when he was pulled, or did he just reach a max pitch count?
  10. Dubois managed to hit another HR. Sure did. He was slugging .818 as an I Cub going into this game. If only he was 5 years younger. Call him up while he's hot.
  11. I don't think the average Cub fan knows who Marty Brennaman is, or cares for that matter. If another player or manager made those comments they may get some grief, but an announcer? Give me a break.
  12. Checked out Brewerfan.net tonight and I have to admit it was all class. It is good to have a rivalry with civilized people.
  13. Are you going to un-ban him? If so, it will still be a while out from now. Why are you guys buds all of a sudden? And why was he banned in the first place? (I always assumed it was due to the "nsbblol" thing, but I guess I was wrong.) Does this really need to be explained? Even he agrees that he earned being banned, though he would like to be allowed back on. Hey bud, you raised the name. I was just asking a follow-up question. Back on topic - I doubt that Greinke is for sale, but if he is, I'd jump all over the opportunity. And Meph gave Hoops grief over bad inside info.... :rotfl: :rotfl:
  14. I still can't believe that Hendry pulled off this deal. Can someone give a scouting report on Gaudin? Never heard of him before.
  15. Are you going to un-ban him? Maybe Tim and Meph are the same person? :-k Seriously though, when did Meph ever have any inside info? Am I missing something?
  16. You've been following the Cubs long enough to realize that Nolasco had no chance to break into the Cubs rotation and even if he got the shot they wouldn't have stuck with him this long. As recently as June 5, Nolasco had a 5+ERA and was getting lit up. Sure he is having a decent run at it right now, but the Cubs are not known to be overly patient with young pitchers, and Nolasco is benefiting from being on a team that doesn't have many other options other than giving playing time to young players.
  17. Harden only pitched 25 inninings and 46 innings in 06 and 07? Yikes. Is there any indication that he can stay healthy for more than 150 innings or so?
  18. Yes. She has explained as much in the past. Okay, you want it then you have it. I have pretty much kept this off the board but here it goes. And no I expect no one to believe me but you go ahead and ask Bruce Miles if I am lying and then you can get back to me. For the past 8 seasons prior to the one, I was indeed employed in the front office of the Chicago Cubs. I left of my own choosing partly to get out before a new owner comes in and sweeps the place clean and partly to be closer to my family as my parents are getting up there in age and the price of gas made commuting into the city was costing me more that it was worth. One of my two direct bosses is no longer with the club and left a year before I did. I suspected he left because he knew the Tribune was going to sell well before it was ever announced. The location of my office in the ballpark allowed me direct access most of the baseball braintrust on site whom I had contact with on a daily basis. In fact, my boss was interim GM from 2000 - 2002 until he handed it over to Jim Hendry. It's why I know the business side of this game as well as I do and it's why I have a great understanding of the rules, etc of this game. It's why maybe I get a bit perturbed when my knowledge of these areas is challenged by the people on this board even though I never came clean before now but that really shouldn't matter. I couldn't say anything for some time and didn't even want to bother until now but I am tired of the piling on and not being able to say one word back without being told I am a complete idiot or getting my hand slapped for responding. Regardless of my background, it shouldn't be assumed that because I am a female and I am not part of the little clique on this board that I know nothing about baseball. If it seems like I have met or know some of these guys, well guess what, this should explain that I have. Not all of the players but many...and because of my position, I always met all of the coaching staff. So fire away boys, I think it's time for me to take another break from the action. I'm not knocking you, but I seriously don't know why you even bother. There are people on the internet (not just this board) that get their jollies trying to see how upset they can get you (or another inside info poster we have on the board Nate etc.) . I think you would be better off just posting the info and not getting into a pissing match with the people that don't believe you. Most of us that have been on the board for awhile know that you are a credible poster. If the others don't believe you, fine, its their loss. In regard to the class or lack of class of the managers, players etc. This is probably the last place in the world that would be affected by such things. How many "...everybody cheats, so its ok..." posts have there been in this post alone.
  19. Wow, way to set the ethics bar high for yourself.
  20. I don't think not getting Sabathia has anything to do with Hendry not wanting to go all in. We didn't have the prospect to match the Brewers deciding to use LaPorta in the deal. I agree partially with that assessment, however, nothing that Hendry has done in the past has shown that he is willing to take a big gamble in a trade. We may never know what the Cubs were offering or whether they even had any advanced conversations with the Indians re:C.C.
  21. Great gamble by the Brewers. I would have loved to see the Cubs get Sabathia, but Hendry is not the type of guy to mortgage the farm system for one player. He is more of the bargain basement trade shopper. The big trades that he has been able to pull off, seem to always having the Cubs giving up fringe guys like Bobby Hill, Matt Bruback, Mitre, B. Harris, etc.
  22. So with these names thrown about does this mean the Cubs are out of the bidding? I can't see anybody in the Cubs system that would interest the Indians that much, unless they believed that Hill could turn it around and the Cubs were offering Marmol, Pie, etc.
