  1. What the hell? That doesn't make any sense. I kind of understand the idea of fitting Izturius to theoretically give Guzman some better defense to back him up, but DeRosa in RF instead of Murton or Jacque or Floyd deprives him of some decent offensive support. I hope this isn't actually the lineup. Is Murton in CF? If not I hope that Bruce or another beat writer will give us the real scoop on the situation. Is he hurt? Is he in Lou's doghouse? Did he get traded for a A+ prospect?
  2. do you want to win or develop young players? Both Jones and Floyd are performing well. You seriously want to take them out and put Pie and Murton every day? Murton and his every game double-play? And Pie who's lost at teh plate? Do you not see we're on a great winning streak? Or do you prefer losses? And no I dont see we are on a great winning streak. 4 games in a row is decent, but definatly not great. In Synergy's defense, a 4 game winning streak after the last year and a month is a GREAT winning streak. If only the Cubs could put more of those together.
  3. I think that is the reasoning behind these moves. There is no doubt that Cedeno was the most worthless position player on the roster. Pie has value on this team off the bench. Same can be said with Murton. Many of us are overly concerned about individual statistics, development, and "next year". I guess 99 years of futility will do that to a fan. Lets win now, and then the playing time that Murton and Pie get will be irrelevant.
  4. Iowa wins it 6-5. EPatt went 4 for 5. Rapada with 1.2 shutout and is starting to put it together. Is EPatt having a good year this year? Haven't heard much about him since we signed DeRosa.
  5. At least your 2nd pick in the draft wasn't Chris Carpenter. Guzman has all of the tools to get the job done. I just hope he can put it together and make Miller a part of the Cubs past.
  6. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070505cubsbits,1,5330560.story?coll=cs-home-headlines I think this was the right move.
  7. A couple of months? I know a baseball season is kind of long, but come on. I'm still trying to figure out how a baseball team learns to win with each other. So Derrek, you like hitting the ball that way and think I should run around the bases when you hit it. That's cool, we did that differently in Washington, but I'll figure it out. Hey Carlos, I think we need to figure out which days you plan on giving up lots of runs and which days you'll give up just 1 or 2, so we can adjust our offensive strategy accordingly. Maybe he just meant that the team will "gel" after awhile. But I don't think it will take 2 months. :D It has already started. It started the day they came back with 4 runs in one inning to take the lead. "gel"-ling is the same thing, it;s a meaningless baseball term more appropriate in the world of basketball or football, where timing is absolutely of the utmost importance. baseball is not really a team sport. the cubs weren't winning at the beginning of the year because they weren't hitting at the right times, which is no one's fault. As long as there is more than on player on the team, it is a team sport, no matter how smart it sounds to argue the contrary. One player can only control so much of the game. For instance, take Ryan Theriot...he can get on base by a BB three times in a game. He isn't going to steal his way to a run. He has to hope that one of his teammates gets a hit or advances him into scoring position and eventually knocks him in.
  8. It was a rental car, it couldn't have been in there too long. Unless Enterprise is offering new services. I'm not saying it's impossible or even improbable that he was high at the time, but the mere presence far from guarantees it. He had a lot of weed in there, doesn't it follow from everyone's logic that he must be smoking all of it on that car ride. He may have smoked it earlier in the night, he may have not wanted to keep it around his hotel/apartment, he may have just got it from somebody at Shannon's. I'm not even one to say wait until everything is proven before assuming things, as I assumed he was drunk as soon as I heard the accident repot, but I'm not convinced he was high. I don't think it makes a difference either way if he was high. He'd probably still be alive if he was only "high". Didn't the police find weed in Kile's hotel room also? Not that it is relevant to the Hancock discussion, but is weed widely used by baseball players? and is it one of the drugs they test for during the season?
  9. Not bad, except for Izturis. What happened to Lou rewarding production over veteran status?
  10. Izturis is in the lineup? Has anyone posted it yet?
  11. The Cubs could easily afford to have Pie play everyday and bat 8th, as long as Izturis is not in the lineup. As far as tradeability, Jones is really the only OF that Hendry could move ATM. Floyd is untradeable until June, and Murton has too much upside to let go cheap.
  12. very good point True, maybe he should have said Ronny Cedeno and then they wouldnt' leave. That way they would see how well we know baseball and stick around.
  13. Them wanting Eyre might be a deal-breaker though. or Ohman
  14. Are they bragging about how Izturis is a gold glover and a gamer?
  15. HIll looked fine running the bases. I think he was just out of breath going for second.
  16. It would seem that by moving Walker to AAA, Pie will not be the one sent back down on Tuesday.
  17. You must have watched a different game then. I saw only one play that would probably have been made by another SS (the bobble) and one that he dove over (Edmonds put out). On a play where it is lined past a diving SS, I tend to give the SS the benefit of the doubt. Hey, I've even see D-Lee miss one or two of those this year. Also, Theriot probably would have caught that liner that Izturis dropped, so defensively it was probably a wash. Theriot is going to be compared to two SS's whose defensive skills are highly exaggerated. Izturis is nowhere near a gold glove caliber SS anymore. He may have been at one time, but since coming to the Cubs he is having problems making routine plays. Cedeno is athletic no doubt. But he has problems with routine plays also. I think its time to get real with our assessment regarding defense. Flashy is not equal or congruent to good. BTW did anyone catch Bob's shot at Edmonds? It was in the 4th inning when Duncan dove for a ball and missed. Bob was talking about it wasn't necessary for Duncan to dive unless he was showboating. Then he said something to the effect of "Duncan must be watching Edmonds too much."
  18. If the Cubs could trade Neifi Perez, I'm sure they can find a sucker to take Izturis off their hands before the trade deadline.
  19. Not just the Cubs, any team could have taken him in the Rule 5 draft this year. There just isn't much interest in him.
  20. I agree in a universal sense, this story doesn't mean much. However, I would be interested to know if the sock was stained with real blood or not. I remember the media making a huge story out of that game and Schilling's ability to pitch out while he was bleeding. It is true that he pitched a tremendous game regardless of the blood, but for him to allow the media to pick up and run with the story (if it was fake), would really put a cloud over his character.
  21. Theriot as SS is more than a one game experiment?
  22. the curse is specific. wrigley will never see a world series game after 1945. the only way to break the curse is to demolish wrigley and salt the earth so that nothing will ever grow there again. do that and the cubs will win a pennant.  Who would have thought a goat would have that much pull?
