  1. No. I am not rooting for any particular scenario. And if the Cubs do come here, the only way I go to a game is if my buddy serves up his season tickets behind the Padres dugout. The smoking law really turned me off from going to games. Special seats is about the only thing that would stop me from watching the game in the comfort of my own home. And Petco couldn't touch Wrigley with a 10 foot pole. It's just another boring ballpark built in the '00's and a pain in the butt to get to. If it was at Jack Murphy, I'd be all over it. Well, I want to see the Cubs in the playoffs and the Dodgers are tanking and I'm not likely to get tickets and a plane flight to Wrigely, so the Padres are my chance. I take the trolley in to Petco so I never had a problem getting there. If Columbus Day weekend games were going to be road games for the Cubs, then I'd be rooting hard for the Dodgers, but since those will most likely be home games (assuming the Mets and Phillies don't both collapse), I'm going to try and score tickets at Wrigley and catch a flight.
  2. Pat said on the radio today that winning and hitting 8 over would tie their high water mark of the season, so you're probably right.
  3. I got one start in May when the team was losing everything and I'm almost up again, so I'm biased against the idea. I don't know how it was done in 03.
  4. Thanks. If the Braves get out of this, I have full confidence in Ned Yost's ability to choke this game away.
  5. Tie game or Brewers lead? (I know it's on ESPN, but I deliberately don't own a TV and gameday is lagging.)
  6. Because you just said that, the Cards are going to win out, the Cubs are going to lose out, and the Brewers will tie. Cubs win the coin flip to play the winner between the two of them, and Z promptly craps the bed and Cubs go 81-82. Good going, jerk  (I'm trying REALLY hard to not get optimistic.)
  7. Applebees? *shudders* You dont like Applebees? Bourbon street steak? Grilled shrimp?Potatoes? Yummm. Oh and I bought a 20oz Pepsi, and under the cap I won a free 20 oz. Im seriously considering not working OT tonight and just going over to the Riverboat. If I'm up for drinks and watching whatever popular sports game is on, I don't mind sitting at Crapplebee's and having the appetizer sampler for dinner, because I'd rather get drunk there than at the bar. Serves pretty much the same purpose Chili's does. Beyond that, it's really not worth it. I'd much rather eat at Taco Hell.
  8. can't blame 'em - I hear they weigh 20 pounds each.
  9. Do you know if he's hardcore religious or just Jew by birth who's more non-practicing than anything else? I'd imagine he'd have to be pretty hardcore to skip out of a game, even though it's a big holiday.
  10. that is one handsome gentleman I'd have his babies.

  12. That's weird. After living in GA for 5.5 years and attending more games at Turner than I have at any other stadium, there was exactly one game where the fans were obnoxious, and it was just a couple of teenagers. I didn't know any of the people that attended games there cared enough about baseball to even know the significance of 1908 in the first place. I was also there for a Braves-Mets game in 03 (Cubs beat Dontrelle in Florida that day, 16-2) when the whole stadium emptied out in the 7th inning with the Braves down by four, so when they scored 6 in the 8th to win it, it was a relatively quiet experience. I really didn't think the people who went to that park gave a crap about baseball. Well, the main game was the one in which Sori got beaned after hitting three homers the previous night. I had a few things that I needed to say after that. Plus the fact Lilly got tossed and then Renteria's cheapshot on Fontenot. Tensions were definately raised and I wasn't backing down to a bunch of obnoxious jerks behind me. Plus the fact that I had many $6.25 Budweisers in me. Couple that with a bunch of snide comments after Dempster lost the game and I left Atlanta with a bad taste in my mouth. I guess I had a unique experience though. My last trip to Atl was in 2005 for all four games of the 4th of July series, which were games 5 thru 8 of a 5-game losing streak. Cubs led one inning all weekend, Francouer's MLB debut was highlighted with a HR, and all the fans felt sorry enough for us to leave us alone, even though Cubs blue outnumbered them. For tonight's lineups - Counsell batting leadoff?!? Have the Brewers always had this problem? I really don't get why so many people keep saying how that team as a whole is more talented than ours. Braves will help us out tonight.

  14. Grammar and biased rants aside, it's really not a bad group over there. I've lurked for a few months now and posted a couple times, and posts of this mentality are in the minority over there. Just sayin.
  15. '04. Bartman. Buckner. Black cat. Goat. Curse. 98 years. The closer the Cubs get, the more you can expect it. It all comes with the territory. The monkey on this organization's back is ginormous.
  16. More obnoxious than the wave. It'll be really hard trying to tolerate/enjoy it this weekend, but I'll give it a shot.
  17. What a bitter d-bag. Every team gets lucky and gets bounces. It's the teams that capitalizes on them that wins. I really don't get what's so hard to understand about the magnitude of 162 games. Every damn team in the league has gotten lucky bounces, and every one of them has been robbed. Each and every team has earned their current spot in the standings, Brewers and their Yosts infection notwithstanding.
  18. So does the offense. Geovany Soto.
  19. There's really no need to rehash the Dempster thing AGAIN. Nady kills the Cubs. At least it was a solo shot with a 6-run lead, and now we don't need to hear ESPN's lame jokes about the Bears beating the Steelers 13-7.
  20. Funny - I was listening in class until it was 4-2. Then I went to lunch, and got back when it was 7-5. Class started again, and life has been good.
  21. It's really hard to fake paying attention in class when you make me spit on my computer.
  22. He wasn't an established defensive catcher, therefore he would have cost the team at least .... eh, 14 games, by my calculation.
  23. +1 Baseball season is over here for everyone but me. There's not a fan around here that doesn't have a team in the hunt. We're going over a foreign language article about inter-tribal Afghan conflict right now, and I have no idea what's happening in class. I am about to explode.
