Im willing to give Counsell a lot of slack given injuries have left him with zero major league starters, but putting Maton into a competitive game over literally any other option is just not acceptable or defensible.
“Lets make major investments in our infield defence and then build a pitching staff entirely of dudes who give up nothing but absolute nukes like its their job”
Valid take. Fully healthy starters is probably a comfortable wildcard like last season, which also had streaky hitting, but running a rotation like this is unsurvivable. Nobody as bad as Shota or Taillon this season will ever be in a playoff rotation.
At this point bringing Maton into winnable games should be a fireable offence for Counsell. Unless the team is up 5+ runs, its pure malpractice to let him on the diamond. Incomprehensibly awful.
I really, really, really hate fly ball pitchers. Not only have the results with Shota been uneven at best, its just an aesthetically offensive brand of pitching. 🤷🏻♂️
Its not Carson Kelly’s catching that is to blame for the Cubs willingly entering a major league season with the atrocities of Taillon and Imanaga on their roster.
Thats cool and all but from the perspective of every other team in baseball, we are the “easy win”. Hard to get super excited about a “soft” stretch that way.
What could they possibly do? Unless they can pull 4 MLB replacement level or better starters out of thin air tomorrow, theres nothing that can fix this.
No way am i not watching, fully in the horrified fascination phase. Cabrera being bad/getting injured removes any semblance of a stopper. We could be facing a historic stretch of futility.
