Its been out there that Padres can’t sustain the money were they spending on the roster under the last owner.

That bullpen lineup looks more like a team that wants to tank than make a run. Soul crushing watching half of those names attempt to throw a baseball. Jacob Webb cannot get major league innings on a serious team.

Im all for max spending (we are the 2nd richest team in the NL FFS) but im hard nope on Skubal. Dude is already on the pudgy side, already has shown how little he cares about team with his conduct towards the Tigers/Team USA in 2026. Yuck.

I would do unspeakable things to get a “ho hum fine” rotation out of the 2027 Cubs after the cacophony of awful we were subjected to this year.

I also agree that Cabrera will be in the rotation, wasn’t trying to say otherwise, just that thats a demoralizing thought as a fan of good pitching.

Expecting Horton and Steele to contribute anything in 2027 is absurd. Letting Cabrera start big league games should also get the Cubs investigated for tanking.

But they have had an endless supply of them since 2018. Thats an 8 year sample of good outcomes with multiple GMs and managers.

Having no salary cap is playing by the same rules, every team gets to spend as much as they can.

You actually hit it on the head exactly, small markets franchises don’t generate equal revenue, they don’t deserve to spend at the same level as the big markets. I would also argue that from a purely entertainment perspective, sports are better with underdogs, and I don’t want a world where baseball doesn’t have that anymore. Theres nothing impressive about, as an example, the Brewers winning the NLCS over the Dodgers in a salary cap environment, the resource disparity made it compelling to a wider swath of people. Part of pro sports fandom is civic/regional pride, a salary cap is basically saying “our city can’t compete with yours so we need help” instead of finding other ways to win ala Tampa Bay or the money ball A’s.

I don’t see how either of those articles are relevant wrt a salary cap, allowing every franchise the ability to fully wield its resources is crucial to maintaining that equality.

Higher revenue teams have earned that advantage, I don’t see a reason why teams like Pittsburgh deserve the same opportunities as teams like the Yankees, they don’t do anything to warrant that.

In what world is asking for all the teams in MLB to be on the same spending levels remotely reasonable in any way whatsoever? Why should the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs etc be limited because smaller markets exist? Thats absolutely disgusting.

The owners suck, the players are also 1%ers largely who would spit on any of us as peasants, and the current system is unfair and also sucks. All I want is a league where everyone plays by the same rules, part of that is getting rid of the small markets special treatment, part of that is every team being allowed to spend as much as they want on any aspect of their franchise, roster payroll included in my opinion.

Is there a reason it shouldn’t be the top payrolls always winning? Part of what has made Milwaukee beating the Dodgers so compelling is the disparity in resources, levelling that kills it. Even if I wanted parity (I don’t, small markets should be grateful they get to play at all), a salary cap won’t achieve that.

A small market will win the World Series this year, can we please drop the salary cap horseshit? Its already ruined hockey.

Assuming the lockout doesn’t bring a salary cap (personally think it won’t and really hope it doesn’t), I hope the front office/ownership is shamed into action on the pitching front by how poor the performance was, they effectively torched an elite defence and an all time individual season by running out a pitching staff on par with teams that lose 95-100 games.

Admittedly haven’t looked at any numbers on him so this all anecdotal, but he seemed to be a lot worse in year two. Obviously made some questionable decisions off the field but now he plays fundamentally unintelligent baseball on the field.
