  1. jjgman, many here live to bitch. It drives good postrrs away.
  2. absolutely, a pinchhitter, spells guys at 3 positions and DH. Makes a lot of sense to me.
  3. Angels guy called it the perfect storm. All MLB teams awash with cash and very few good FA's.
  4. I verified this info with a Angel's exec--he said they indeed made this offer but do not think it is enough to get him.
  5. Nice get by Hendry. MLB teams are absolutely awash in money. This is the new reality.
  6. Zito to the Angels. My prediction. The Angles have a ton of money to spend and will do so.
  7. We did discuss it from a player/money perspective. He told me you can throw out the standard money preconceptions now as baseball is awash with money and this is a weak free agent class. He said anybody that thinks 4 million is outlandish in this environment is ill-informed.
  8. screw you goony, I posted it FWIW. Get over yourself.
  9. My Lord, you people have high opinions of yourself. It was an AL scouting director.
  10. He came up as a scrawny shortstop and has really transformed his body. He is not a SS anymore due to his body type, but he has made himself into what a lot of baseball people think is a pretty good hitter.
  11. I talked to a MLB scouting director today. He said that was a good signing by the Cubs, FWIW.
  12. FWIW, I spoke today to a MLB scouting director who said he thought the DeRosa signing was a very good one. He said the guy has really developed into a good hitter and is very versatile. Unfortunately, though, with this free agent group and the excalating salaries of baseball, you can't get the perfect player at each position----you have to take some gambles.
  13. Hendry did the smart thing. That is what other teams do also.
  14. Good luck to both of them. Let's get better next year.
  15. I don't have time for a rant. :)
  16. general statement about moneyball guys.
  17. stat guys always point to stats, except when the stats don't support their bias.
  18. Murton did a decent job in left. His defensive problems are greatly overexaggerated.
  19. So much for the manager "trading" Girardi for a player. :)

well then, you really can never tell whether someone is worth the money till he has played out the contract. Somebody here made the point that he did well in year one. Most here have said he sucked since he was signed. Let's give the guy a little credit here for actually producing.

You know, some people can't freakin admit that Jones was worth the money. Who the hell knows about year 2 or 3? All you can do is judge how he actually has performed. Stop whining about everything please.
  22. MacPhail went out like a man taking responsibility.
  23. Towers would love to be the Cub's GM.
  24. To answer the original question, the Cubs would get a new first baseman. The chances D Less would retire are so small I could not fathom it.
