  1. God, we whine a lot. Everybody is a young player sometime. Let's give the kid a chance. EVERYBODY is a risk. Any player could do badly. Let the damn kid play and stop worrying over it. If he doesn't succeed, so be it. :)
  2. I will be disappointed if he isn't in the starting line-up this year. He sounds like a motivated kid.
  3. The Cubs' bullpen was worst in walks, home runs allowed and winning percentage. The ERA was 4.24 and the pitchers blew 19 of 58 save opportunities. Worst in my book!
  4. Nice signing. Anything to help the worst bullpen in the National League. There is nothing more demoralizing to a team that having a bullpen that can't hold a lead or keep you in the game. Hendry got the job done here.
  5. A major league scouting director I know really likes Eyre--says he is a workhorse and very solid. Did the Cubs overpay? Yes, he said, but most free agent pitchers who are any good are overpaid.
  6. good pickup by the Cubs. Nothing is more frustrating than a bad bullpen.
  7. talk is cheap.
  8. I never want to see Choi or the Gremlin here again.
  9. yup, Choi could be had for very little, I just don't think there are many takers left.
  10. I'd vote Carpenter over Clemons.
  11. the key point here is we have much, much more pressing problems than Greg Maddux. He is an asset. This team, as constituted, will not be successful unless Wood and Prior pick up the slack. So far, they haven't. I'll gladly take Maddux's 12-15 wins again next year. He is not our problem, no matter how much whining here is done about him.
  12. Vance, I am not missing the point. I think the moneyball guys are. They go way to far in stat analysis. Stats aren't everything. Again, Greg Maddux is the least of our problems.
  13. Now that was well said.
  14. "wins don't mean anything"? That's why the moneyball guys lose me. Yup, I'd rather have "whip" than "wins". Sigh.
  15. He also has been an inning eater for us. Like it or not, he isn't our #5 pitcher, he is far from it. The hits don't bother me, as he rarely walks guys. You Billy Beane guys should actually like that in a pitcher. :)
  16. well, he has been our second best pitcher the last 2 years.....
  17. Stone suggest Furcal and Cedeno and ss/2nd.
  18. yes, Lawton cleared waivers. So did Walker.
  19. no, we are not nearly good enough.
  20. Sure you do. At this point, you play him wherever he can stay healthy and actually pitch.
  21. At least McGwire didn't lie to Congress. He just shut up.
  22. Everyone forgets that last September Lee slumped because he was dead tired. Holly health this year was supposed to enable us to rest Lee now and then. Now is the time. The inside pitch is eating him alive.
