  1. I don't remember that kind of thing in old-timeyness... ruling out Sodom and Gomorrah, of course, but I wasn't there.
  2. I don't quite understand what people see as very special in Kittredge. On the other hand, to me, Collin Rea seems to be pitching better than he ever has.
  3. Go for the prospects and the long-term, Cubs, yes, yes, and it appears wise to figure in that potential lock-out. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the note. We'll see about Cam Smith as well as Matt Shaw. I tend to think the difference is highly explainable in his being a year behind. But, I like Shaw for the future and the Cubs should have OF/DH talent to use if not to spare from their prospects next season, so there's that.
  5. Fine question, thank you. Ask me again, next July, as his BA and OBP come up. He may be the Cubs' leadoff man. (I'm having a challenging time understanding all the short-term interest in these pundit blogs and lack of interest in long-term investment.)
  6. Matt Shaw is a slugging third baseman as well as stellar fielder and very good baserunner. I like him better than deal-crazy pundits.
  7. Good. Let's have more of those prospects that the Cubs organization finds tough to trade away. That is how excellent franchises are built, not one year wonders.
  8. Yea, Rea did alright. But wow, did Counsell burn through those top relievers quickly. And then, it's just better than average Kittridge, while saving Keller till too late.
  9. One simply has to recognize when players are having trouble and when they're doing especially well... and if possible in each case, why that is.
  10. Wow. I thought Tommy Hottovy's staff was there to pick up on things like that. Then again, one would think Crag Counsell would pick up on the simple trend of Imanaga's ineffectiveness. The office might think of hiring Northside Baseball.
  11. It would be intriguing to see an older, perhaps sadder, but wiser David Ross back as the Cubs' manager.
  12. Same spin on the fastball as early in the season? Where did the forkballs go?
  13. Seems to me, Craig Counsell doesn't have a good sense of how to handle the playoffs, especially regarding which of his pitchers are hot and which are cold. Look at his career W-L in the postseason.
  14. I think they said that Early Wynn was similar. Some people just do better under pressure.
  15. Why shouldn't the best reliever on the team come to the mound in the 7th inning, when his team has a 1 run lead and there are two baserunners on the opponent's team? "Closer" looks like one of those odd old baseball habits that should be broken.
  16. Jonathan Long may be drumming his fingertips in sequences on the arm of hotel chair.
  17. PCA's stride is pretty wide. Has that increased with his downturn?
  18. "Two day reset" is working out. so Happ, Suzuki, Swanson, PCA, to keep his stride down at the plate...
