  1. Matt Shaw is a slugging third baseman as well as stellar fielder and very good baserunner. I like him better than deal-crazy pundits.
  2. Good. Let's have more of those prospects that the Cubs organization finds tough to trade away. That is how excellent franchises are built, not one year wonders.
  3. Yea, Rea did alright. But wow, did Counsell burn through those top relievers quickly. And then, it's just better than average Kittridge, while saving Keller till too late.
  4. One simply has to recognize when players are having trouble and when they're doing especially well... and if possible in each case, why that is.
  5. Wow. I thought Tommy Hottovy's staff was there to pick up on things like that. Then again, one would think Crag Counsell would pick up on the simple trend of Imanaga's ineffectiveness. The office might think of hiring Northside Baseball.
  6. It would be intriguing to see an older, perhaps sadder, but wiser David Ross back as the Cubs' manager.
  7. Same spin on the fastball as early in the season? Where did the forkballs go?
  8. Seems to me, Craig Counsell doesn't have a good sense of how to handle the playoffs, especially regarding which of his pitchers are hot and which are cold. Look at his career W-L in the postseason.
  9. I think they said that Early Wynn was similar. Some people just do better under pressure.
  10. Why shouldn't the best reliever on the team come to the mound in the 7th inning, when his team has a 1 run lead and there are two baserunners on the opponent's team? "Closer" looks like one of those odd old baseball habits that should be broken.
  11. Jonathan Long may be drumming his fingertips in sequences on the arm of hotel chair.
  12. PCA's stride is pretty wide. Has that increased with his downturn?
  13. "Two day reset" is working out. so Happ, Suzuki, Swanson, PCA, to keep his stride down at the plate...
  14. Good analysis, but chances are, only two will be good MLB players, and perhaps one of them a big star. Jed Hoyer can't know which ones those are.
  15. A defender shouldn't be allowed an out by knocking a player off the base, in any way. Period. That includes doing it by the tag, itself.
  16. I've got a bookmark folder of Cubs pundit sites. I just demoted six of them for their hype as I'm prone to see it, in favor of overspending, including the Cubs' future, for the sake of "big moves." North Side Baseball rises to the top, for being objective, analytical, sensibly hopeful, and not of the gripey mood of the classic Chicago sports call-in show "fan." Good going!
  17. LIKE: Long range view for excellence over the years. Keeping sports inflation down Trying-out and keeping the best prospects DISLIKE: Pundits trying to make money by pushing the teams they haunt to overpay and toss the future away for immediate jazz. Throwing Cam Smith away for one season of Kyle Tucker. Go Ricketts, Go Ricketts-disciplined Hoyer. Go Cubs Go. PS: God bless you, Jason, you could have edited your article down by about 40% to avoid redundancy.
  18. Thank you for the really nice reporting. But seriously, what's wrong with Luke Little and Riley Martin, still with Iowa? BTW, God bless you in your new employment, Mr. Pressley.
