    Nice article. And Scarlett was right. And tomorrow was another day.

    This year? Upside: Picking up Peterson and Holmes made them look like contenders. Downside: Sending down Assad and sticking with about three others instead whom I won't name seems to secure their missing the division championship. They may win the first round again. Oh, well, it's football season.

    So far, the Cubs seem to be applying their pitchers by mumbo-jumbo, thinking they're being technically correct. The best starting on the staff might be Javier Assad.

    How is it not true that Javier Assad is a better pitcher than Edward Cabrera? It's not about the speed and spin, it's about how a pitcher uses that to fool batters. Cabrera has been a classic case of a pitcher with "good stuff" that can't command and control it as well as better pitchers (such as Assad). When will they learn?

    Thanks. I like results over concepts of what pitcher ought to do well. And I like the Cubs' pitching lab, as do the pitchers. All any of the new ones have to do is to excell.

    I respectfully suggest looking into those histories again, both over the season with the Cubs and in past years. And the Cubs' pitching lab has a lot to do with their good pitching, not just defense, I'm confident. It appears Civale, Theilbar, and Rea have to be left behind, now, perhaps even Thornton. Assad keeps getting better and better. He's coming into his own. Zeff-er-jon appears iffier than than the rest. Cabrera is still a question mark!

    You don't think it will be tough for Gausman and Holmes to replicate what the Cubs starters have done across the board since July 1? We'll see....

    Not all that impressed with either of the new rental starters. The Cubs have an excellently preforming rotation right now. Why fix what isn't broken? Which of them should be replaced? Let the newbies be long relievers, at least for now. But, I really like getting Braxton Garrett.

    Seems to me, Assad should keep starting. If he's demoted, I may trade the Cubs for the NFL preseason..

    Seems the Cubs lost much when they signed Bregman with a no-trade, multi-year contract. Let's not blame them for trading prospects that have little place to go with the Cubs' major league team.

    Picking up the payers Jed Hoyer does beats trading the future for just a chance to do better in one year, plus going into debt and raising costs to attend games, or even see them on TV or streamed, or hear them audibly. Just not into the trade and free agent hysteria that drives so much sports media.

    Here's to Bregman playing as if he were Santo without diabetes. We're Cubs fans, so hope springs and sprints.

    Seems to me, that is because teams front-end the power hitters in very recent times.

    It would be great to have another starter, but I don't get the assumption that Javier Assad can't start a fine number of games, now, thanks.

    I agree with your sentiments, but tying an aging Bregman's salary around the team's neck seems simply nonsensical. Look at the youth coming up that can play 3B nicely. When Shaw gets back it will be embarrassingly obvious. Look at ballplayers overall who get to Bregman's age and onward. "Past performance is not a guarantee of future results." Good investors know that well.

    Jason Heyward a decade ago... Alex Bregman now. Seems Cubs management listened to people who write articles in fan sites.

    Serious question: can the Cubs trade Bregman? And get anything?

    Time to find alternate employment, it seems. Or, keep him around as a mop-up pitcher hoping he improves late in the season again. But there will become lots of pitchers to fill roster spots in the next few weeks, if they don't keep getting injured.

    Thank you. As for Ramirez' weight, I think fat is overrated.
