  1. Wow. I know he is has good mound presence and is mature for his age but I didn't expect this. Hopefully he pitches well to finish out the season so he can take on the Southern League.
  2. Would it be a problem to sign Nomar for SS, go with Perez at 2nd and hopefull hit him in the 8th hole? Maybe 7th on days Blanco gets the node? Thoughts? Why would you possibly want Neifi over Todd?
  3. Only twice in his last start. But it wasn't so much blasting them as being a cry baby jerk. Not that I don't like Zambrano but he still has some growing up to do. It would have been pretty tough for Cedeno to turn two on the ball he caught. The pitcher would have scored anyway on the single two batters later when Murton screwed up throwing to 2nd instead of the cutoff man. He has been a LOT better this year than he has in the past. Either that or he is making it less noticable.
  4. Man, that gutting of the cancers really worked, didn't it!!
  5. No, but then again I didn't even look at the W/L total until I scrolled down and saw you mentioned it.
  6. Absolutey, but is it his fault that Dusty puts him there? He's clearly NOT a number two hitter, and you can't fault him for Dusty hitting him there. He should still adjust the way that he goes about his plate appearances since he is in a spot where he has to get on base. It may not be his fault that he has hit 2nd but he still isn't doing the things that a number 2 hitter should be doing.
  7. Has he really blown up at his teammates that much? I don't think I noticed it any more than I did last year.
  8. Batting 8th: 2004 - 192 PA 2005 - 198 PA Thank you.
  9. It's pretty straightforward, if you can't get on base more than 30% of the time, whether 28% or 21% is a hit, you just aren't a good offensive player. All those players you mention make significantly less outs, and they do so with more power. That's the name of the game right there. Again, putting entirely too much stock into OBP. If you're batting .280, you're doing something right. Something right, but not enough. The goal of offense is to not make outs, and Neifi makes too many outs(otherwise known as a low OBP) to be any good offensively. No, the goal of the offense isn't to not make outs - it's to score runs. That's how you win ballgames. And not to sound like Dusty Baker, but walks don't score you runs... in certain situations. Man on 3rd, or man on 2nd, you need a hit to get him home. Walking will just keep him there. And no, I'm not undermining the importance of the walk - just saying that, again, you can't just look at OBP. Yes but if you send plenty of hitters up to the plate and don't make any outs, the scoring of runs is taken care of. You know, you need to have baserunners to score more than one run at a time. This thread is really on its way to being 15+ pages.
  10. This discussion has been going on for weeks now. It would have been going on longer but Perez wasn't hitting much before then. Perez and Patterson are two separate issues. There are plenty of people here that criticize both. This discussion is relatively pointless now that Cedeno is on the DL. With Ramirez and Cedeno out, Perez is the best remaining option at SS. I hope he plays well enough to earn a starting job for some other team. Exactly. Every time that Neifi has one of his hot streaks there are several of these threads that pop up.
  11. This thread is probably a long time overdue. There was a similar discussion in yesterday's game thread though. The point I made there and the one I believe some are making here is not that Neifi is a great player; rather he has contributed quite a bit this year and people still villify him like no one else on the team. I know everyone will not agree with this, but, in terms of relative suckiness, Neifi has been way overcriticized relative to Patterson. While lately the Patterson defenders have been quiet (no other choice), there were plenty of excuses being made for him earlier in the year as he flailed away and played with his head up his ass. I am not saying there wasn't any criticism of Patterson; it's just that there wasn't enough of it compared to the grief perez received. People just seem to hate Perez's game no matter what he does. That's fine. But if you hate his game PLEASE do not say a single word defending Patterson or making any excuses for him. And please, no more calling him CPatt. Dude, Patterson was getting so much grief earier in the year that it was getting ridiculous. There were 1-2 threads a day bashing him. There haven't been many lately but I think that's because there really isn't much more to say.
  12. Who says either has reached their peak yet? I don't think Roger has. That's the scariest thing to me. And put me down for Roger.
  13. He was last year too.
  14. Kolb has been absolutely horrible this year.
  15. He doesn't suck, and quite a few managers would probably give Neifi the nod over Cedeno. A lot of manager's just don't give up on reaching the playoffs. They're managing for another contract. Face it. Neifi's a middle of the pack hitter for SS, and has one of the best gloves amongst shortstops. I just don't get why defense means so little to some. You know, Ronny isn't chopped liver when it comes to defense. Wasn't even trying to compare Nef and Cedeno's d. Heck it's irrelevant now. Just don't get why Neifi's such a favorite whipping boy. Neifi doesn't fill out the lineup card, and Baker knows what type of hitter Neifi is. I am so sick of this excuse. He still isn't any good. That is Neifi's fault.
  16. Most everyone was ready to see Farnsworth go, he had chance after chance here and for whatever reason, could never get his act together. That's not even close to being true and you know it. Check out the trade thread from last year and you will see a bunch of people saying that they didn't want Kyle traded. I was one of them.
  17. I would rather have Cedeno out there defensively. Even though he's on the DL?? Wow! Funny. and maybe..
  18. I would rather have Cedeno out there defensively.
  19. Maybe you should include the short stops in the American League. Most of the short stops in the National League aren't too great offensively. And even in this company he doesn't look good. Note: any time a player has close to a .300 OBP you don't want them in your starting lineup.
  20. No, San Jose State. Gah...
  21. ILL 40-19 over San Diego St :D
  22. While he may have been a free agent, he never really tested the market at all. He wanted to stay in Florida and resigned there before he talked to other teams.
  23. Willie Parker. Look for him to have a big game..
  24. Just so you know roast, my team > yours :P
  25. I think that part of that may be due to them devoting more money to the major league payroll. Despite the increased attendance, I think they have cut back in areas to save some money. International scouting could be one of those areas.
