  1. MIlton's Pitching. The Cubs have the perfact pitcher in place for a huge come back.
  2. Scott, I like you, but if you keep talking like this, I'm gonna puke and then I'm gonna clobber you. :-) I gonna still believe that they will pull this game out of the fire and end the streak. They have nothing to lose now. It's all about pride. We'll see what kind of men this team is made of when they can only play for pride. Everything else might be out of reach. Hill had a bad game. As a team you move on. Get the Offense going and see what happens.
  3. Game isn't over yet. It always is darker before the light!!
  4. Bump for a win.
  5. Well it could be worse we could be below the Reds...D'oh. I beagn this thread when the 2 game losing looked bad, but since the Cubs have yet to win since this thread and 1908 has threated to lock the thread. I say go ahead and lock it. The Rah Rah I believe , I believe Is beginning to hurt me in a physical way. I still believe though!! Just one guys. Cory Patterson's return will be the spark today.
  6. If they lose again tonight, I'm locking this thread. :P If they win you bump it until they loss then right?
  7. Bumped for a win!
  8. I feel you HCF. See how you feel about the Cubs after this week. You might feel better. No team is running away with the WC and if a team is hot now doesn't mean they'll be hot the rest of the year. The Cubs, once ignited, can put up a really exciting fight for the WC birth. The Cubs are played their absolute worst over the weekend. It can only get better and the Cubs can go only up from here. It may be hard and not feel right but you must believe.
  9. It's hard to argue with you. I expected to see the name "Lupus" in the starting lineup. I'm just looking for a boring straght out win from the Cubs. The Reds coming into town might just spark something.
  10. No need to use hyperbole to try to prove your point. I never suggested Hendry should shield him in the minors, just echoed a concern about his ability to adjust to MLB pitching if promoted too soon. The Cubs already did that once, it'd be a shame to do it again, imo. I believe you continue to put pressure on C. Pat and really see what happens. He might just suprise his team, his manager and the fans. He certainly has the ability to do it. It just might be the thing to do. I aruged that C. Pat. has the ability to be better then C. Beltran last year. I still believe that. Unfortunately, his numbers also say he could go the other way. I say squeeze him in and force him to become the player he can be, or have him fail and move on to Pie. At least giving him the chance to really show the Cubs the best he had to offer before going with another player in CF. I see no other choice.
  11. I alway believe! So we continue not to hit and not to pitch. 2 things critical to, ya know, winning a game. The moment the Team relaxes and stop putting so much pressure on themselves we'll see a prolonged winning streak. The team looks like it's trying to win a series. Their are not trying to play one game at a time. They seem to be trying to force a 5 game winning streak by winning one game and ya can't do that. There is alway time to get hot for this team. Until mathematically out of it, their not out of it. Williams need to be the streak stopper today and the Cubs bats need to reappear and stay for the rest of the season. Make it interesting for those of us that still believe. Bump for a win!!
  12. I have Faith I still have hope I'm gonna bump this thread up until we win one friggin' game if it take the rest of the season!!!!!
  13. I still believe! Watching last nights game and fighting the urge to change the channel I noticed a couple of things. Hill might not be to ready for the bigs, the Mets had a wonderful batting approuch, which was sitback and wait ing the slow curve. They did that and rocked. Walks and control problems don't help either. Our defense makes bad choices. The throw home by T. Walk was an emotional decision based on wanting to win. He made a bad move. D Lee threw his bat after a bad at-bat. It's obvious that the team wants to win and feels the pressure to do so. Wood and Williamson were very good. Nomar was fine, but get him coming off the bench for the rest of the year. He's a liability at this stage of the year. The Cubs winning streak will begin I feel it. The Cubs have enough time to blow all contenders away. They just need to start with one.

  15. I'm tired of the pissing and moaning Baker did this or didn't do that or he should be fired or we should have traded so and so and got so and so. This game is enjoyable when you just watch it for what it's worth. This Cubs team is in position to make a run, I don't care about the odds or the schedule or whatever you have to say about how their not going to do it. Just shut up and watch. You might just see a great ending of the season for the Cubs after a lackluster 4 months of .500 baseball. Don't become the fans that left Dodger statium and missed the Kirk Gibson home run. Don't become the fans that bailed on the Red Sox down 3 games to the Yankees in the ALCS last year. Like I told my Red Sox Diehard friend "Watch game 4 tonight and 5 and 6 and 7! You are on the verge of seeing the greatest season on Red Sox history". He watched and witness one for the ages. It happens all the time. It's the Cubs turn now... believe!
  16. The Cubs need to start with this next game. Just this game matters and no other game but this one. Stop looking at the score board and begin playing in this next game. I still hold a hope that the Cubs can get one last big push in the 2005 season that'll thrill me before I concentrate on football. Magic can happen Lighting can strike Flex the diehard muscles you all claim to have during this time of year and believe a little.
  17. I think that Houston is shooting it's load to early and will fall back to the pack. The Cubs just need to get hot at the right time and as of right now haven't. I still believe this Cubs team can gel together and make a run. I still haven't seen a total "give up" in the this team yet. They really need to play like that have nothing to lose.
  18. Since baseball is a lot more individualized than basketball or football, I don't think having a leader is nearly as important. I mean who lead the team in 2003?? Sammy?? Seems like half the team hated him. Jmo but you don't need a Tom Brady or Tim Duncan to win in baseball. Let me ask you this then. Think of World series teams and tell me leaders didn't emerge and lead the team to victory. Willie Stargel Darrel Porter Reggie Jackson Josh Beckett Curt Schilling Jack Morris Kirk Gibson These teams were sparked by the play of these players and lead the teams to victory. I don't see anyone on the Cubs that you could put on that list.

  22. Just for the heck of it, if they are high profile, these would be my guesses: Cub:Nomar Giant: Bonds Oriole: Sosa Philly: Abreu Tiger: Pudge Mets: Piazza, Pedro Astros: Bagwell, Ensberg Yankees: Giambi, Sheffield, Posada All hypothetical, but it was kinda fun trying to guess. I think some of the picks are sort of obvious but anyway... My guess would be: Cub:Patterson (Minor League) Giant: Alou Oriole: Mora Philly: Thome Tiger: Ordonez Mets: Beltran, Reyes Astros: Ensberg, Berkman Yankees: Sheffield, Womack and K. Brown
  23. I agree with you there, this year's team is much more likeable to me. When they lose I'm bummed that they did, not angry that they blew another one (like last year). Good Point. I'm not mad that Alou was out at second over running or getting picked off or Sosa getting deeked by, of all people, Jim Edmonds. The only player I have a problem with this year is AmRam loafing once and a while coming out of the batters box. This team has team character, much more then last year and I credit D. Lee, Maddux, even Neifi.
  24. Compared to last years team as far as likeability. I like this team much better then last year. I really hope they put it all together for the last 2 months and give us Cub fans a thrill. I believe we have the parts to get it done. We just need the players to perform.
  25. Will the Cubs catch fire going into the to the last 2 months of the season? Will they light the rocket to send them to the playoffs or does the rocket say ACME on its side and blow our "Wiley Coyote" sky high along with our World Series dreams? Will Woods come from the Pen and be lights out? Will Normar come back and contribute? Will D. Lee continue his great season? Will the Lawton trade have an impact in this team? Will the starting pitching continue giving quality starts? Will Williamson be a facter out of the pen? Will the offense maintain consistancy for the last 2 months? Many questions to answer. All games count even more from now on. Every win will feel great, every loss devastating. But as true Cubs fans, we continue to have hope. Here's to a very strong and wild finish. GO CUBS!!
