I still don't understand why opt outs are so bad? It's not a trade. You are giving up nothing. Wouldn't we rather have a player for one year than none?
It's more about if this person will hit or not as a player, isn't it?
At this price I’d take it. If he opts out that means he had a good year. The Cubs are loaded for 26 and then as you said there is both incertainty in baseball/CBA and uncertainty with the Cubs w many contracts expiring.
Why not go all in??
Gore has the pedigree and the stuff. As people have said the Nats have sucked at developing pitchers and their defense also sucked. He could be so much better here - I hope we can get him and at a price that does not break the bank.
They def have a strategy.... with the unknown year looking with the CBA, they want ST contracts, and they want older players who they think for one year are cheaper.
Wow when you out it out there like that it really makes you realize how much the current regime hates LT contracts. Compare this list to LA, NYY, NYM, SD, Philly, Bos, even the Braves and you will notice a huge difference.
