The only only hope that this team has in the next two years is an infusion of young, talented position players. I hate to harp on the past but Renyel Pinto or Nolasco sure would have helped to pry someone from the Devil Rays, Angels or Dodgers. -
I didn't even catch Barrett's official injury before. That sounds more painful than Nomar's injury.

Lilly went berserk and bloodied his manager's nose after he got lifted tonight. I can't blame Gibbons because Lilly gave up 7 runs in 2+ innings after getting spotted 8.

Well, they just said Robinson was named the best defensive catcher in the Tigers' organization last year. So he probably can't hit, but hey Blanco won't be here forever. 319 AB, 92 H, 22 2b, 1 hr, 47 rbi, 6 sb, 72 so, .338obp, .367slg, .288 avg We got more back for Neifi than we did for Maddux.

It will help the 2007 Cubs immensely if Ronny is the better offensive middle infielder next year. Yeah, I set the bar high.

I doubt they think Ausmus is anywhere the same player that Barrett is. As somebody who values defense a great deal, it still doesn't make even close to the difference between a .930 OPS and a .586 OPS. Could it have been that they think Barrett could be average at another position defensively and still have that big bat? I'm still not sure it's worth it-to have offense at a position where offense is so scarce is still so valuable. Offense at a non-offensive position is only an advantage if you have offensive players in offensive positions.

Why can't Murton or Pagan play first base? That way you'd get both in the lineup. I think they're more likely to help us next year than Mabry and Nevin. -

Ken Rosenthal on the Fox pregame said that Vernon Wells turned down an extension with Toronto. He said that several clubs are interested and Texas is the favorite.

He has been benched until next season per MLB rules on mascots. No, I am not kidding. :shock: please elaborate.... I work designing MLB ornaments. The approval process is absolutely brutal. It's literally months longer than any other license. Real nice people working there though. so can you send a friend a few Cub beer bottle coolers :D I would if I could but we don't make those.

It's too bad Pagan got hurt earlier this year. What will Hendry do with both Pagan and Murton this offseason?

It's the same Rich Hill I saw pitch a one-hitter thru 7 innings with Iowa earlier this year. He really could be that good. Bad as he was earlier this season, it was inexcusable not to find a way to get him big league innings. Coming out of the bullpen worked out just fine for Santana, Liriano, and Zambrano. Insert inevitable reference about Rich Hill not being able to handle the heat like those other guys.

Where can I leave a tip for the aliens who kidnapped Rich Hill? I think he finally turned the corner. The Cubs have a ton of young pitching to trade again.

.597 to .620 going into today. Another scoreless for Rich. Think we can get Dusty suspended by calling the commissioner's office and saying that he swore at the crowd and threatened them to do the wave? It's probably past .630 now. That's still terrible but I would be ecstatic if he can get it up to .720 by the end of the year. That would give him a solid base to grow from next year. Let's hope he never repeats those gruesome May/June numbers.

I saw before the game that Ronny Cedeno had -37 RCAA. That was the lowest amount in the NL. Does anyone know how much Ronny has increased his OPS in the last two weeks?
