  1. But what if you dont believe that this happened, much less is possible? It always bothers me when people say something like this. I'm not a believer, per se, but there's probably more evidence of that than the Cubs winning the World Series. The Cubs will have six months to prove me wrong. I assume God will have much longer.
  2. I think it is more likely that Jones is traded and Hendry is going to rely on both Floyd and Murton in the OF. It would be nice if Hendry really did intend to use him as the 4th OF. Jones, Ohman, AAA SP and maybe Izturis for a Felipe Lopez level shortstop? I'm guessing Pie gets called up when Floyd gets hurt.
  3. I seriously don't get this. Jones is going to outproduce, be healthier, and make less money than Floyd. I'm rooting harder for Jacque Jones now after reading Sam Walker's Fantasyland. JJ seems like a really nice guy who takes the game way too hard. That said, he's much more palatable with Murton, Soriano and Floyd than Rookie Murton, Pierre and Nevin.
  4. It's cool with me homeboy. Mad props to JC! Where's JC? We're getting J.C. Romero? Seriously, in real life I swear for punctuation. I don't feel I need to on this board. I come here because everyone already understands the frustration of being a Cubs fan.
  5. A league average, Ted Lilly like season will interest some teams around the trading deadline. I have a feeling that Marquis's name will be mentioned anytime a starter gets hurt on a playoff caliber team. Let's hope that the value they get exceeds his contract.
  6. [quote=" I'm curious about what he said about looking foolish and signing under market value. Is that a possible slam against Ramirez? It's possible that the Zito deal is already a huge discount for Zambrano's talents.
  7. I'd say there's a 10% chance this works out for the best. I'd say that's a lot higher than most first round pitchers. Even with the injuries, I'd say signing Prior was a success. I'd be happy with Ted Lilly numbers for the life of the contract.
  8. I remember JS would have been a top ten five pick in the draft if it wasn't for the football. I heard he hit 97 (hopefully on a reliable radar gun). People are talking about a higher ceiling than Pawelek, Guzman and Veal. Does JS have a third pitch yet? A 2nd pitch even? He might see some action next year in relief. I also keep hearing about how raw he is. Did anyone here see him pitch in the minors last year?
  9. Pie in CF, Patterson or Theriot at 2B and DeRosa at SS. Izturis can be the defensive replacement. I can live with that in March. We can swing a trade with Jacque Jones and bullpen excess if someone tanks/gets hurt.
  10. This is a world where Gil Meche gets 5/55. Prior had an ERA+ of 175 in 2003. He'd easily get 3/24 if he brings his arm to the physical.
  11. Has Hendry lost a quality performer to free agency yet? Rotoworld reports that Mark Prior has been throwing off a mound this month. This rotation could be special with 100+ innings of 2003 Prior. Zambrano Prior Lilly Hill Marquis?
  12. In Newhan's defense, he worked out well for my fantasy baseball team for a few weeks. That was over three years ago.
  13. I saw a taxicab that had this headline on the electronic billboard: "Official: Yankees resume Randy Johnson talks with the Diamondbacks."
  14. I'm not even thinking about such a terrible scenario. Hendry coveted Barrett too long to trade him for Brad Ausmus.
  15. Insurance only covers the first three years, right? How would that affect an extension? I'm comfortable with 4 years, $50 million for Zambrano with some club options. I would also backload the contract and hope for inflation.
  16. 66 wins will do that to you. Now that I think about it, another starter who can give the Cubs 200 innings of a 5.00 ERA will be a huge improvement over last year.
  17. Wow, just wow. What an upgrade Soriano appears to be. I have no problem predicting that he'll be better than Pierre for the next five years. I gave the Tribune too much money over the years to care how they spend it. I'm glad that they're acquiring actual assets instead of placeholders. I wish Soriano didn't get a NTC but we probably couldn't get him otherwise.
  18. You're right that it's a bad idea to remove starts if they're not anamolies. The Cubs can get Drew, Westbrook and Soriano and still be in their fair share of blowouts. This Cubs team will be better than last year. Yeah, they're clearing that bar. It won't be enough to get Steve Bartman out of hiding but at least we're driving the right direction. I love Murton but his main benefit beside his youth is his low salary. A $115 payroll will alleviate that somewhat. Westbrook is a league average starter. We should be able to trade for a couple of those without giving up Murton.
  19. Someone's gotta mention that Aramis singled to go 4-4 with 7 RBI's and two homers.
  20. I'm sorry. I couldn't hear you with the gun in my ear.
  21. To hell with this. I'm watching the Washington/St. Louis game and then I'm going to play some video games. I made it this far but I can't stomach this walking Worst Case Scenario anymore. I'm especially bitter because I need a good Zambrano outing for my 1st place fantasy team. His ERA of 27.00 and WHIP of 6.00 is not helping matters. If I was Dusty Baker I would say that I forgot my toothpicks in my car and just drive home.
  22. Watch Dusty leave Zambrano in there for 120 pitches with the Cubs down 8-0.
