  1. I can't imagine how shocked fairweather Cubs fans (may) be when they pick up the newspaper tomorrow.
  2. The North and South rekindle their civil war with only one thing in common: Appreciation for the to champion Blackhawks. The Cubs will fight to make Peavy sing "Oh Danny Boy" in Wrigleyville instead of a more festive tune. The White Sox will fight for a newspaper headline before the Bears preseason begins. No matter how mediocre this season has been, it has been fun watching Cashner, Castro and Colvin develop. Let's hope Jay Jackson keeps it up and Vitters gets hot. Keep this in mind when you encounter a White Sox fan:http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m302/Guancous/HatersGonnaHate.jpg
  3. I was at the game. It sounds like the tv gun ran hot. The scoreboard "only" had Strasburg at 100 mph. The control of Mark Prior with the velocity of Kerry Wood. I thought the hype was absurd. Now I fully believe that, barring injury, Strasburg will strikeout 21 guys one day.
  4. Quoted for truth. I'd love for Outshined_One or ToonsterWu to show some stats from different systems. I don't have the numbers or the time, but I bet the Cubs score favorably in players in the Top 100 and overall value since Wilken's hiring. Keep in mind that the draft also encompasses the later rounds and the entire time the player is under club control. We can't even close the book on his first draft yet. It's easy to cherry pick the best players that got passed on. The Cubs don't have a $30 draft budget though. I, along with many others, complained that Wilken picked Brett Jackson with the first pick. Less than a year later, he was a top 75 player in some publications. That earned the benefit of my doubt, let alone Cashner.
  5. Six years of club control for a major league regular is still very, very valuable. It will likely be five years before we fully know the impact of the draft. The Simpson pick left a bad taste in my mouth but it feels better this morning. I can see a team rolling the dice on him in the supplemental round. Hopefully the Cubs will pick some overslot guys later. Otherwise, I will trust that Wilken watched these guys a lot closer than we have.
  6. Maybe the Cubs plan on opening the pursestrings for Stetson Allie in the 2nd round? Perhaps Wilken saw something special? Maybe the Cubs will draft Golden Tate in the 5th round.
  7. I'm confused. Hayden Simpson wouldn't be there at 65?
  8. Hayden Simpson? Even the MLB Network guys are flummoxed.
  9. Wilken earned the benefit of the doubt from me. I was disappointed with the Brett Jackson pick last year but I certainly stopped complaining.
  10. Half the members here might not know that the site is back up. What happened? Was it a lapsed annual subscription or was it a bandwidth issue?
  11. I'll be away for a work conference between June 14th and 20th. Let's hope that the Cubs don't lose another game until I get back.
  12. Give me some useful information from the future, o traveler of time. 2012 will be a surprisingly uneventful year. ...aside from that Cubs Worlds Series victory, naturally.
  13. Here were the top 10 in opposite field homers last year, courtesy of Ron Shandler and BaseballHQ.com: 1) Kendry Morales - 9 2) Pablo Sandoval - 7 3) Matt Wieters - 6 4) Will Venable - 5 5) Travis Snider - 5 6) Clete Thomas - 5 7) Howie Kendrick - 4 8) Billy Butler - 4 9) Carlos Gonzalez - 3 10) Evan Longoria - 3 Starlin Castro has two already in May.
  14. I sit down to watch the Cubs game on my laptop and the cursed Yankees-Mets game forces a black out.
  15. Hey O_O, what's the link to your draft?
  16. You forgot: 3) Phillies fans intentionally projectile vomiting on people 4) Phillies fans running on the field and getting tased
  17. You could almost hear Len slump when Lindsey Vonn say that she spent her off days performing wife duties.
  18. Aramis must have heard what Vitters did tonight.
  19. Let's hope Aramis takes a page out of Soriano's book and goes into a killcrazy, slumpbusting frenzy.
  20. MLB Network is showing the game even though it is very early...
  21. ;That's what happens when you are rushed. You miss out on the little things. Another month in the minors and that would have been his 2nd home run of the day. Well, at least Starlin probably won't be a Super Two.
