    This, +1. And it would have to be an Indianapolis franchise in the NL Central for me to really have to think about it. Else, I'd just treat it like I do the rare times the Colts play the Bears. As in, get wasted and let the game sort things out. If the Indy team were in the AL, then I'd just finally have an AL team. And REALLY hope for that dilemma of Chi vs Indy in the World Series.

    So I guess he's going to go on an insane tear, push us into the postseason (where we get swept in the first round, again), and then be signed to a 2 year 5 million contract in the offseason. That, or barely play at all. There is no in between.

    You know, I could see Zambrano going to an AL team...assuming they agreed to start him at DH in between starts. Which would be crazy to watch, ha.

    I really could see one of Colorado or San Fransisco tanking, and us being able to pass them. Problem is, I just can't see two. And even in the perfect world where both do...the Fish probably wind up with the Wild Card. And I'm sure we've all had enough of the Fish breaking our hearts for one lifetime. At this point I'm just content calling ourselves spoilers. If anything else happens, I'll be pleasantly surprised. And will go buy a lottery ticket for the first time in a half decade.

    The only reason I can think of (and note, I do not agree with this, simply trying to think like teh Cubs) would be fear that a late season slump would kill trade value. As is, they can talk up his 10 homers in 170 some odd at bats and try to sell it as "imagine that over a full season". If he tanked, the homers may not have a sexy SLG percentage to go with them. Absolutely stupid, but it makes more sense than the likely reason. That he isn't a slick defender. But hey, toss him out at second this winter and see what happens. :-))

    Please don't use wins as a way to measure a pitchers worth. I'll readily admit I don't know jack, but even I know that will get your butt kicked. :-))

    Also Ryan Dempsters regression, Hardens 1st half struggles, Gregg, etc. The pitching staff bears a lot of blame for this season. I mean, lets be honest, if someone had of told you before the season started that Randy Wells would get to double digit wins...you would have thought we were pushing 100 wins.

    I guess I just have a feeling a new GM would rather make a splash with a big signing than by just running a guy out of town. While that story might get you good press today, what about mid season '10 when the replacement is OPS'ing a hundred and fifty points less? There's also the fact that the hatred of Milton by the bleacher bums might chill out if certain hack writers didn't get a kick out of inciting them.

    Hopefully the GM won't be around by that time to make any stupid decisions to cover his own ass. \:D/

    The only way that anyone gets off the hook for benching Soto for Hill is if they can channel the ghost of Johnnie Cochran and he uses the Chewbacca defense. And even then he might look at you and say "are you stupid or something?" while he tries to think of a way to get OJ out of jail again.

    Sorry, smoking pot makes you hungry. And for some, a little paranoid. Insanely irrational hope and optimism are NOT one of the effects. Maybe they could pop some Ecstasy or something...

    There's always a chance. There's also a chance that tomorrow Megan Fox will come over to seduce me. It's just slightly less than the Cubs chances of making the playoffs. I'd rather be pessimistic and pleasantly surprised than optimistic and horribly disappointed.

    Have to respect the move on both sides. The Sox didn't believe they could get it done, so they started looking to next year. The Dodgers are really serious about winning it all this year. Hopefully they match up against the Cardinals, I need a likable team to root for.

    It would be smarter to put Fox at catcher just to get the at bats than it is to bench Soto for Hill. Hint: neither of those moves would be very smart

    The Cubs would be absolute idiots to trade Fox unless a team is willing to, at worst, pay full market value. With as little as he'll make, and the odds that we'll need a backup at LF and 3B next year, you'd have to be an idiot to let him go for nothing. So expect him to be traded for a couple of A-ball prospects or an overpaid relief pitcher. And then do a shot. And then keep doing shots until the stupidity of this ballclub doesn't offend you anymore. Or you die, whichever comes first.

    i like to think that magic potion is code for fists full of steroids. I was thinking black tar heroin + speed. They pitch damn good, but it takes a while to convince them they weren't really playing pink elephants after the game.

    Poor Murton. I bet he thinks he could have matched the .723 OPS the Cubs have gotten out of left this year. Sigh. Good luck Matt, hope you catch on with a team that actually needs an outfielder this time.

    At this point, a Soriano injury requiring surgery would comfort me. As insane as that sounds. At least then I can convince myself that his crappy season was because of it, and have hope that he'll come back stronger next year. It's either that, or we have the highest paid 4th outfielder in baseball....

    The funny part is that Hendry's net contribution to the franchise as a stupidly overpaid scout would be more than his contribution as a stupidly unqualified GM.

    Barring a miracle over the next week or so, I'd like to see him benched/DL'd the rest of the year with a (phantom?) leg injury. With this season quickly becoming hopeless, he's too valuable (as in, expensive) to not treat frailly in hopes that an extra long offseason will finally heal some of his problems.
