  1. Cardinals also didn't sign Ponson to a two year deal. How long before we pick him up off the scrap heap as our next "low risk, high reward" load of bs?
  2. Don't worry, he'll be in center in a few weeks after we pick him up off the scrap heap and Pierre is shipped off
  3. And since we play them 5 times after the break, there's always the chance to see him mow down the Cubs on WGN :x
  4. Wouldn't the best option be to demote him to the minors and assuming he makes it through, let him toil as the 5th starter at Iowa? If he gets some velocity back, say, late August, we would be able to trade him to someone still in the playoff race. But if we don't demote him first, we'd never get him through waivers when that time comes.
  5. Sounds like the perfect time to try to get him then. Rich Hill and another prospect as a starting offer? Hopefully the league is thinking "get Cubs prospects, they'll flourish elsewhere" after the Patterson debacle. Who cares that he'd be useless this season. This season is already useless...
  6. Ugh, you're right, why in the hell did the Cubs pick him up? oops, sorry, habit
  7. Going to guess they'll can everyone but Baker, bringing up a lot of the Iowa/West Tenn staff to replace them, and give Dusty a chance to manage with the new staff. Sigh...
  8. I have a feeling he'll get a 4 year contract this off season with vesting 5th and 6th years based on innings thrown, with him having the ability to void the options if he so chooses. Giving him the chance to either accept the years if it feels right, re-negotiate them in a new contract with us, or go onto the free agent market for a big money contract at barely 30 years old.
  9. Of course, I wish the players would take as much shame in their play... http://mypage.iu.edu/~trarobin/pics/neifi.jpg
  10. Paper bags people. Paper bags... I can't blame people for still going. I'm broke, so you better bet if I'd spent money on tickets and had to plan ahead to take time off work to go, I'm going. So with that in mind, fans have got to start doing something to stand up to management and tell them that we're ashamed of this season and the management of this club. So what I propose is this, and it's going to take guys like the folks here who get to go to games to get it off the ground. Start wearing paper bags on your heads with cut in eye, nose, and mouth holes. Heh, get creative with it, you can cut them in half and just have it as a head cover over your eyes with eye holes, heh. What would need to happen is some folks invest in a bunch, they're pretty cheap. Spend an evening using your scissors, and take them to the game. Hand them out. A whole section with bags over their head will probably stand out! Heck, write things on them. "Fire Dusty" "Excuses Suck" "Horses?", etc.
  11. Here's the thing, who cares if he was out or not. It was close. Our team has been beaten into the ground. We need something to rally around. Think about that and tell me how there is one freaking excuse why the man wasn't out there raising hell until they threw him out. He should have made that minor league ump look like a dignified professional. Get yourself thrown out, go into the dugout on your way out and scream "DAMNIT, YOU MOTHER BLEEPERS WIN THIS GAME NOW!"
  12. No doubt hoping to hit well and get a major league team to take a flyer on him. Don't hold your breath Jose. Though, I could see a team that's already out of it and who, unlike the Cubs, still don't have 30K showing up every game, giving him a roster spot to just draw in fans. Like the Pirates or Royals I suppose. Also, don't miss that they're also doing a licensing agreement for apparel, that's where he'll make a lot more than 2500K.
  13. Personally (and especially now that we have some info to back up the fact that his arm is healthy) I'd love to see them sign him to a two year extension which vacates the option for next year. Something like 2 years, $15 million (assuming he'd accept that).
  14. They tried to send him to Guantanamo Bay, but he didn't make the team
  15. Cano is down, likely headed for the 15 day DL. Neifi is close to an offensive wash with Cairo, but surely is a much better defender. So, how about we offer Neifi to the Yankees for either a player to be named or a small chunk of change, with the understanding we'll just get the small chunk of change in the end? Hell, anyone else we can dump on them? Think they'd view Mabry as someone to go for?
  16. Actually, dead honest, here would be my trade proposal. Jacque Jones, Neifi Perez, and Glendon Rusch for....whatever. The Yankees will love it because it's just money and, well, they don't care about money. They'll love it because they get something they need in Jacque for the nothing they have to give. And who knows, maybe the big apple will take to Glendon and he'll do something. As for Neifi, eh, who cares
  17. Even at his best, Jacque Jones isn't so great that there won't be better components available in the next free agent market. If you can get value in return, you make the trade.
  18. Sadly, his .340 OBP would look nice on the team. Yes, folks, that's how far we've fallen, when 2006 JT Snow upgrades your team statistically...
  19. Hot Cakes Grits Hash Browns? More like Hash Grits Hot Cakes ....(Repeat)
  20. If they actually thought he'd be claimed, lol, this is probably the best move by the Tribune we could hope for. Rusch gets shut down, hopefully on a hardcore exercise regime, put him in the minors and see if enough treadmill time gets him anything extra.
  21. Rusch isn't an idiot, he's just an awful pitcher. If you're looking for an Idiot, then the guy who keeps sending him out there would qualify. Actually, Glendon is part of the reason why I think that major league contracts need to change, so that if you release a player you only have to buy out a portion of their contract instead of paying the whole thing. Because what happens is, guys like Glendon get that two year contract, and have no incentive to work hard and stay in shape in the offseason. It's not like he has hall of fame apsirations or something to keep him motivated. So he gets fat, and sucks, and still collects that payday. If the Cubs could release him and only have to pay half the contract, then he'd have motivation to try as hard as he can.
  22. Obviously it's all hypothetical, whether the change in pitcher would have also changed various other factors and still allowed us to lose. That's a curse folks. But still, you want to give yourself the best chance to win. Angel Guzman would have given them a better chance to win. Hell, starting Roberto Novoa or Will Ohman, while not a good idea, technically would have given you a better chance to win than Rusch. Shoot, know who else would have given us a better chance to win this game? Les Walrond. Jae Kuk Ryu. Rich Hill. Jerome Williams. Pretty much every starter at Iowa, lol. Heck, I'd even go down to Tennessee before I give the ball to Rusch.
  23. It's just nuts. We paid $6 mil for the bastard and are getting nothing. Demote his butt to Iowa, nobody is going to grab him. Let them put him on a treadmill everyday and try to get someting out of him.
  24. Kind of like how Estes won that key start at the very end of the year in '03. Of course, we didn't have our stupid hats on back then, we didn't give him two years because he "saved us" and didn't suck one time...
  25. You know, if Hendry wants to make a bold move...get rid of Pierre for whatever we can get, and put Bynum in center. That way Murton can play, and they can get this look or whatever at Everyday Freddie. Maybe they see something I'm missing. I just see a speedy guy who can pull the ball but can't hit.
