  1. Adam Everett signed and just given the starting job? No thanks. Adam Everett signed and put into competition for it with Cedeno (if he's still around) and Theroit? Sure. I'm not worried one way or another. Lou showed last year he can recognize an obvious upgrade at a position (Theriot over Cesar). Cedeno might not even be on the team. Last year could have very well been Theriot's peak and maybe he doesn't have that one great month next year. If the offense is a wash, it's an easy decision. Frankly, bringing in Fukedome and his likely .380+ OBP makes going pure defense at SS a lot easier pill to swallow. It's not going to make a big difference if it's Theriot or Everett in the 8 hole. And if it's still Mark DeRosa at 2B, maybe a defensive whiz at SS makes his life easier. And that might make his bat even better. Of course, if we're talking DeRosa as a bench player I think his bat overwhelms Everett's defense. Especially if you have Everett on the bench for late inning defense.
  2. All I know is this is fuk'ing ridiculous. Just pick a team already!
  3. I would support this as a fall-back strategy. It's certainly a better idea than Geoff Jenkins or Raul Ibanez. Green should come fairly cheap. I have a bobblehead theory that has to work. I own 2 that I have from cereal boxes and they are....Sammy Sosa and Shawn Green. Sorry folks, it's going to be a Green Christmas. So what you're saying is after we deal Murton in a Roberts trade, we're going to sign Shawn Green and Sammy Sosa to platoon in right?
  4. He could I suppose. But I'd have to think that he'll want to come back and showcase himself this coming season. If he misses all of 2008 he'll have a hard time getting anything more than a one year make good contract in 2009. And if he's really sick of the Cubs and having to answer the phone when they call, he might want to get traded mid year. Not going to happen if he isn't pitching.
  5. Unless Fuk's nickname should be "Puff The Magic Dragon" I just can't think of many reasons to go to San Diego over Chicago. Sure, the weather is nicer. But with the extra 6 to 10 million he can probably milk out of the Cubs he can buy himself a damn nice Cali offseason home.
  6. All I know is that if we don't sign him, I'm getting Fuk'd up tonight...
  7. I suppose anything is possible, but this reads like a load of crap. If Soriano had been kidnapped when he was 12 or something he'd remember it.
  8. I'll probably lose my lunch if I find out he goes to the Padres. Why on earth would he make that choice? That ballpark will water down his numbers, putting him in line for less money on his next contract. Why, to take less money to play for a team with less of a chance than us in '08? Something just tells me that the Padres main role to play was to drive our price up. If they've got 3/30 on the table I bet we have 3/36 or more. And if someone has to go to 4 years it'll probably be us. Lets just get this other with, please...
  9. To be honest, I can see both sides here. If Prior were to sign a contract with a relatively cheap buyout of his 1st year of FA, he might be shooting himself in the foot. He watched us give Jason Marquis a big contract after putting up a 6+ ERA. He's got to think if he can come back by mid year and do well he can get a lot better. At the same time, I understand why the Cubs are hesitant to put more money into him without the security of the option. In the end, though, I feel that we should tender him a contract and go to arbitration if need be. I have zero faith that the 3 mil or so would be spent any better than on the Prior Lotto, and I also have zero belief that 3 million would really stop us from doing anything else. Sign him, ride him hard to get back as early as possible, and see where things go. Maybe he comes back and has a great time and we can mend this. Maybe not.
  10. There's also the possibility that MacPhail thinks Angelos will not get in the way if he's dealt Tejada and Bedard first. A lot easier to convince your boss that you have a commodity who needs to be dealt at maximum value when the rest of the team are rookies. Man crush or no man crush. If Angelos likes him as much as he seems to, he'd have to prefer his (probable) friend playing for a playoff spot rather than playing to not lose 100.
  11. To me it sounds like working out the Roberts deal is going to be a lot easier for them than Tejada and Bedard, and they want to work on the hard stuff. Hendry really is in no rush, if it falls through we're still fine. And by letting them trade Tejada and Bedard first, they save face. They know he'll probably put in a trade request if they have a firesale, which will let them not look like they dumped Roberts. And no doubt if someone blows them away for Tejada and Roberts the deal could fall apart. Not too worried about waiting this one out.
  12. So, did we trade Pagan, Fontenot, and Marquis for Roberts yet? :D Seriously, for those who want to follow the O's fans discussion (especially if those so called insiders start weighing in) go ahead and register. There's an approval que but you immediately get read only access to the O's forum.
  13. I wonder if any are reading this thread and getting angry about how unrealistic our trade proposals are? Of course they are! I guess that's the 67 guests lingering in this forum then. :P Join up guys. Most of us aren't a-holes and would love your take! :D I'm not positive, but I think the board is currently set so admins have to manually activate accounts. Again, I could be wrong on that. Then Tim isn't going to be happy when he logs back on... Get to work!
  14. You have been a fan for the entire Jim Hendry era, correct? If so, then you know if your heart this comment is incorrect. Any time the question is "Is Jim Hendry really that stupid?" the answer is always "yes" Ha, sometimes it's hard not to feel like that but I'm not that worried. It isn't like before being dealt for Pierre Jimbo was calling any of the prospect dealt "untouchable". He's been pretty adamant about not dealing Hill and I don't see him backing down for Roberts. You don't trade your #3 starter for a slight upgrade at 2B. I think he'll willingly overpay in prospects but I think he feels Rich Hill is beyond just being a prospect.

  16. Are we hitting Humboldt, Cali first to get some "helpers" to persuade MacPhail to agree? :D
  17. I'd rather find out in spring (or pick now and let the "winner" know) which of DeRosa or Roberts can play short most days. We'd have Cedeno for at least defensive subs and Theriot to spell.
  18. It's hard to say yes when one of those guys is likely to be slated as the Cubs 5th starter next year. Start Marmol.
  19. I'd certainly try to swap one of them for a pitching prospect, but it'd be hard to say no if you're only slightly overpaying.
  20. I wouldn't be shocked if the price was Gallagher, Marshall, and Patterson if we refuse to include Pie or Hill. Bit steep, but I'd probably pay it.
  21. Thanks as always Bruce for the insight. I promise to shove a few more brews down my pie hole to stunt my own hyperactivity. Heh.
  22. I don't think it will be tonight. MacPhail, I'm sure, would have to run it by the owner since Markakis and Roberts are 1-2 on the owner's list of player favorites. So we're talking to them about both? :D Heh, in my dreams. If only in my dreams... To the best of my knowledge, only Roberts is part of any talk with the Cubs. Hendry has remain steadfast in saying he won't trade Hill or Pie. If we're not talking about Pie or Hill and they're still talking, I like the sound of it. **crosses fingers**

  24. Maybe I should have asked if any deal would have to include Hill or Pie. Blew it. Totally blew it. :-({|=
  25. I'll bite first (sorry for bugging you Bruce), any guess as to timeframe if there is something to this? Are we talking something that could break tonight or might it be a while?
