  1. Deferrals don't effect the tax as far as I'm aware?
  2. If the Cubs don't spend the money saved via the Bellinger trade then the Tucker trade sucks. The difference between Tucker and Bellinger is 2 wins, but we lose 3 seasons of a top 10 3B making pre-FA money, plus one of our best prospects, plus Wesneski. 3B was a black hole last year and we have a rookie with hardly any 3B experience plus a bunch of nobodies gunning for the job, and the middle infield coming back from surgery including a 2B who isn't even throwing on the field yet. If the Bellinger money isn't spent then Shaw has to put up close to Paredes numbers for the Tucker trade to not be a wash even on a 1-year basis, and counting on a rookie for that is insane, and it would still look like a stupid deal long-term.
  3. 86 wins? Cubs are trash. Maybe they sign 1 or 2 more bench/pen guys but a couple of 1 WAR players isn't going to move the needle. What an underwhelming offseason. 1 year of Tucker for this trash team is a waste. Every penny of Cody's salary savings is in Tom's pocket right now.
  4. If they don't spend at least 230m i don't even know the point of watching this year. I feel like a chump. Ricketts is taking advantage of our loyalty to fill the stands and his pockets while putting in the minimum payroll needed to give us the hope of a playoff birth. 80- something wins isn't good enough. A payroll of 209m is leaving wins on the table. We pay for all Cubs revenue and this is how you treat us? Eff you Tom.
  5. They don't ever say how much payroll they have left for negotiation reasons. I think they're done adding bigger pieces as they said because there's basically none left. Robertson is a modest piece and they said they're out on medium size pieces too which is surprising but they may be hiding their cards. But maybe you're right. Jed said they were at their payroll limit last year too before adding Bellinger but got the greenlight for extra funds from Tom. Unbelievable. Jed says they're banging up on their payroll limit right now with a bit more money left for in- season moves "like Tyson Miller" etc. They're at 209m lol. A 215-220m payroll is completely unacceptable. Let's hope Jed is just giving his poker face.
  6. Jed said exactly what one expects him to say, besides essentially saying Tom let him go slightly over the tax line this year for Bregman. This team should be like 40 million over the first tax line regardless.
  7. We had no chance, and i'm fine with it.
  8. Time to buy some scraps. I'm not expecting a Cease trade that's for sure. Maybe they get Robertson but the pen is pretty full. Bring on Justin Turner lol.
  9. Odds are decent that Assad would have started in AAA anyways since he has options. Birdsell is like 9th or 10th on the SP depth chart. This is why you sign Rea.
  10. Well in the presser Carter mentioned some guys were sore but nothing significant. But i guess things change.
  11. This seems based on Jeds comments at the press conference yesterday. It's inaccurate. They're focused on players in camp now but that doesn't mean they're out on anyone. Jed wouldn't comment about any remaining free agents and said the offseason in recent years has become longer.
  12. This aged poorly
  13. Carter Hawkins today said no new pitching injuries in camp so far.
  14. Corey Seager and Trea Turner were around the calibre of player Tucker is (5 WAR-ish, maybe some would argue Tucker ages a little better based on his specific position/tools), so with inflation I expect something around 10 years and 360-400m for Tucker. The Cubs probably need to get at or near the 400m number to get him i'd guess.
  15. Is it just me or is or the availability on tv apps pretty limited? Can you get it on a Samsung or Sony tv, or do you have to get ie a Fire stick or Apple TV app?
  16. Just looked at the Spring/Japan schedule, it's pretty cool, looks like they leave for Japan around the 12th of March, get to play 2 exhibition games vs Japanese league teams in Tokyo (Giants, Tigers), then play the 2 Dodgers games, then fly back to AZ and a week to later play a series vs the Dbacks for their home opener. I'm more excited to watch them play vs the Japanese teams to be honest. I wonder if Imanaga gets the Opener or Steele, i'm hoping Shota.
  17. Matt Shaw looking a little stiff (and wearing a sports bra - anyone know what this is?) while taking grounders at 3B in AZ the other day:

  19. Wasn't there a system last season where game threads weren't immediately moved to the archive forum so we could continue discussing/viewing for a few days afterwards? I liked that approach.
  20. Here's an interview with Shaw from a few days ago discussing his preference for 3B over 2B:
  21. You're probably right, but as of right now he doesn't have much experience there compared to the other positions.
