  1. In this data-driven age it's probably more true now than in decades past. If you mostly just follow the data then most would behave pretty similarly. No manager is perfect.. I think he's a good, competent manager and a smart dude. I think he probably rides his good players a bit too hard at times, whether hitters or pitchers, but that line is a matter of debate. Would be nice to see more urgency and passion from him at times. Also lacks deep postseason managerial experience, which probably isn't his fault. Can't really complain about much else. Worth being one of the higher paid managers, but probably was overpaid and given more credit for what was happening in Milwaukee under his run than he deserved.
  2. Every team always plays fri-sat-sun for the big weekend crowds. So Mon and Thurs are the travel days, and teams typically get a 3- game series in during the week Mon-Tues-Wed or Tues-Wed-Thurs.
  3. Well he got 16m prorated. I think it's 6m he gets for less than 2 months of the season, which isn't cheap. And they were burned by Kimbrel with the mid- season add after the guy essentially sitting for months. Would be nice if this ownership would fork.out the cash though. Worth a shot but I assume Cubs got outbid
  4. I think you've made clear who the nut is.
  5. Lol unbelievable. Stop assuming my intentions. I'll ask whatever questions I want. If you don't agree with my opinions then be an adult and explain why you disagree instead of calling someone a troll.
  6. Jed made a comment to media after the trade about trying to get those guys extended and implying it was the fault of the guys who got traded and that they didn't act like they wanted to stay during negotiations. If I remember right, Rizz took exception and was basically like "i don't know why he would say that" so there was a bit of hurt feelings it seemed. I think all those guys probably were intent on testing free agency., unless they got an offer they couldn't refuse I guess The lack of counter-offering per Jed seems to point to that. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/cubs-jed-hoyer-implies-kris-bryant-anthony-rizzo-javier-baez-are-to-blame-for-extension-talks-falling-apart/ https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2190419
  7. I don't often go on twitter/bluesky these days, but i logged in and the first tweet below was by far the best angle I could find. We'll call it the Zapruder film lol. I don't see anyone's hands when they first touch ball in that video so whatevs. The reply from "Rugga" in the 2nd tweet below she says to the dad "that was in my hands", but she could be lying. Even if she did have hands on it first she should have given it to the kid anyways.
  8. I don't believe that's quite accurate. I've only seen the video of the most popular front angle, but it seems it landed in her row near her feet on the ground, between her and the guy standing besides her. She and the guy beside her reached down, the dad also came over and reached over the seats and picked it up. We can't see the hands or the ball (from that front angle) but she was probably upset because it was near her feet so she thought it was "hers". I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he seemed like a cool guy and was willing to let her have it because he didn't want any drama. I have a similar story. When I was small, around 5 years old, I was standing on the side of the street with my family watching the local Santa Claus Parade. People on the floats were throwing candy into the crowd. A full-size Oh Henry bar landed literally right at my feet. I reached down to get it and some teenager snatched it before I grabbed it. I was disappointed and that's a bit low to take from a little kid, but I guess it was fair game. My mom or I didn't yell at him lol. Much different though than an adult snatching a ball in front of another adult, which is 100% fair game.
  9. Horton was throwing between 84-94 pitches in his starts throughout July. They dialed that back in Aug and limited him to around 75 pitches until tonight, where he threw 87, which is the most pitches since July 9. Completely shutting a guy down in the middle of the season and then ramping him back up later probably isn't the wisest tactic to save a healthy pitcher's arm, better to keep him throwing but limit his workload if they want to reduce the mileage. Probably what they did in Aug, and they may be letting him throw more pitches now in prep for the playoffs. Who knows if it's been enough of a breather but it still makes me nervous. I wouldn't have left him out there for 90+ pitches earlier in the year.
  10. The problem i have with the whole Phillies Karen fan controversy is the footage doesn't show what actually happened with the ball. If the dad picked up the ball clean and legit then yes she's crazy. But what if he took it out of her hand or something? Like why was she so upset? Sore loser or did he do something low?
  11. Since Horton is throwing strikes, inducing contact, and avoiding strikeouts wouldn't that make him the exact opposite of Kerry? I get the comparison as a power pitcher with similar repertoire though.
  12. On the positive, A.I. can never replace Craig Counsell if he's already a robot.
  13. Been catching the highlights and box scores the last several games. You deserve a medal.
  14. Went from "calf tightness" to "calf strain". So how long until Palencia bowling over in pain from "shoulder tightness" turns into "shoulder strain" or whatnot. Is this the new PR talk teams use or something before players get their tests back?
  15. We should have a drunk thread. It would be entertaining.
  16. Hope is all we have, ding dong
  17. The MLBYV app on my TV isn't very good. Lots of issues with inaccurate tracking of the innings and score bookmarkers while watching the game, resulting in frequent spoilers of you're not watching the game live. So watching on a new app might be nice. Hope they'd keep the ability to switch to the Cubs radio audio feed and also watch minor league games
  18. This is the 3rd season in a row where our top reliever or SP (all homegrown) went down with an arm injury in early Sept. If things follow exactly how the last 2 seasons went, Palencia will have a stint on the IL and come back in late Sept, then suck early next season and go down with a serious injury needing surgery to the same part of arm he hurt in Sept. I don't even know how CC can sit there and call it "shoulder tightness". That's a pretty severe reaction to "tightness". Pain seemed to be involved unless Palencia was overreacting. I don't even know why he was left in the game. This team is limping across the finish line. They're going to need a heap of luck to pitch and play well throughout Oct because they've been setting themselves up like a house of cards.
  19. I don't really care if you or anyone calls the Cubs or any fanbase stupid. I just took exception when you said you weren't going to post stats on this forum because of it, implying that the posters here are also stupid. If you meant it more as a facetious point about the fanbase broadly and not the members here specifically then that's fine. I also took exception to you calling my point "stupid". If you disagreed that's obviously fine but there's friendlier ways to express that. I'm genuinely not trying to pick a fight with you and would prefer no bad blood if that can be avoided.
  20. I was never on any Tucker hate-train, or Swanson or Happ.. Here's what I'm talking about: So fans are jerks because they rip on players (ok maybe?) but it's totally fine for you to call fans dumb and their opinions "stupid" and get otherwise aggressive and rude when people disagree with you? I think most of your posts are idiotic. Actually I dont believe that at all, I like a lot of your posts. But how did that make you feel?
  21. You can disagree with someone without calling their opinions stupid. You also called the forum community as a whole here stupid a couple of weeks ago. It creates unnecessarily toxicity on the board.
  22. Incredibly low bar though. Playoffs in just 5 of 15 seasons in the 2nd easiest division in baseball with mostly unbalanced schedules, and 2018 barely counts.
  23. Wind sure, but there's nothing a player can really do if the ball is directly in the sun. Being from SoCal wouldn't change that, you can't catch what you can't see.
