    Ah the old "right forearm discomfort", usually code for "his elbow hurts". I called it on PSD forum the day we drafted him: this guy is probably never going to be healthy. His motion is terrible, he short-arms it.

    I believe it was Counsell so mentioned in early ST that they want to give regulars more rest this year and rotate guys through DH, so I'm assuming Shaw can play most positions to do that. 1 good supersub is cheaper than a good bench OF plus a good bench INF. Have my doubts the arm plays well in the OF except maybe LF for Shaw as a fulltime regular next year. We'll see.

    Yeah if he regresses defensively at some point he may just be average or slightly below average. The parts he's blushed deemed seemed somewhat routine. Could be cold weather related who knows. Played in Houston/AL West a long time. Bregman caught a 110mph liner off Trout so reactions seem fine.

    That's largely true but it certainly helps to be at least a bit spry especially going in on balls, which was the one he missed yesterday. But that was more of a whiff than not being able to get to it. Like I said, I don't think it's an issue this year but it's possible he may not move too well a 3-4 years from now.     I'm not worried about his defense this year, he's made some good plays, but given how slow his footspeed is and was last season you wonder how the speed is going to age in the latter half of the contract. Is he even going to be able to stay at 3B? Not something to worry about now, he could DH more down the line if Mo catches more once Kelly leaves. Shaw could play more 3b in coming seasons.

    Yeah good start. Must kinda suck pitching in this weather. I used to like it because you wouldn't sweat, but I wasn't a pitcher. Praying Taillon gains a tick in warmer weather, but unlikely. The velo faded in the 2nd half of his start too. He seemed to use his cutter more, which could help. Rotation looking good so far, and Brown pitching well.

    Angels manager had a rough series. First manager job for him i see, still learning i guess. Also, i think Trout could use a change of scenery

    Thanks for clarifying. Yes I agree even 1 mph can hurt him. My point was that his struggles in ST weren't just velo related, his command was off too, and for a finesse guy with well-below average stuff thats often disastrous like it has in the past for him if he's leaving subpar stuff over the fat part of the plate. He typically has hard hit% better than the average pitcher and average or better exit velos because of the location (plus the addition of the change up last year). As i said, I don't think he'll be as effective if he loses 1 mph but it's possible he can still stay in the rotation as a below- average SP and BORP. Something like a 4.50 ERA isn't good but not disastrous. If he's worse than that then Rea, Brown, or maybe Assad can step in.

    I don't quite understand the difference in the 3 stat lines above. Is the top one 90 mph, the 2nd line 91, and the 3rd is 92 (each within a range of +/- 0.5mph, so 92 would be around 91 5 to 92.4)?

    AZ was a HR paradise this spring and Taillon's command/ mechanics were off to his own admission as he was trying some new things. It's happened before where's he's off and gets lit up, then like the 2nd half last year gets in a groove and does well. If the velo stays down he may just not be as effective as the last couple of years but we need to see him rolling at 100% with his mechanics to make a real judgement. I'm not going say he's cooked yet if the first few starts are bad unless he's throwing 89 or something.

    I believe his last ST start he was down only 1mph from last year, which isn't horrendous i guess. I think he was around 91.1 mph if I remember. Hopefully he has his command back.

    Right now forecast says tomorrow may start with a rain delay then let up after a couple of hours. They probably won't be able to have BP on the field.

    ABS is pretty good idea because it should get correct most of the aggregious calls. If some calls an inch off still get called wrong I mean not a huge deal. Guys still need to protect the plate on 2 strikes.

    Got a business idea for MLB: create an app where fans can call ball and strikes and out/safe calls in real time and at the end of the inning and game can compare accuracy to the real umpires Much worse idea: get rid of umps and let fans watching at home make all the umpire calls on the app. The call will be an average of all fan responses on the pitch/play. Terrible idea because fans will be biased towards their own teams' players, but would be fun.

    With all the tech now the nice thing is I highly doubt someone as bad as CB would will ever make it to the MLB anymore. Google says he's been up since 1996.

    He's got maybe a couple weeks of Seiya being out to show he can still hit in the MLB for us until he's buried on the bench or removed from the 26-man, doesn't hurt to give him a shot. Broadcast said Seiya likely going on a rehab stint when the Cubs leave town on Thurs
