  1. As I've said before, I agree the baserunning instincts seem very green. He seems to also take a bit to get going to full speed. Sliders from RHP give him fits. I don't really have high hopes for the guy on the Cubs, he needs to get Caissie'd to some team that can play him everyday and keep developing, hopefully he can turn into an everyday guy. His main value for us IMO is he can play CF and backup PCA in case of injury. He can do that in AAA, unfortunately for him. Maybe he'll get more playing time next year for us, but they don't even like him as a RHB platoon bat or pinch runner this year. If he can't even hit LHP for us next year he needs to go.
  2. Yeah exactly. Jed said when they made the Cabrera trade that they tried to get him at last years deadline but the price was too high, and it came down in the offseason.
  3. Between the Counsell hiring, Tucker trade, Bregman signing, and this deadline i don't think the "Jed isn't aggressive" argument holds much water anymore. He may just not do every move we want or win every bid, or the timing doesn't line up.
  4. Jed said in the post-deadline media scrum yesterday that they sought controllable SP but didn't get anywhere close to a deal., similar to last years deadline.
  5. Agree. He also added Peterson, which was a solid trade. I'm not even worried much about the rotation next year. We're losing guys but also freeing up lots of money and there will be lots of quality SP on the FA market, plus we can always swing another trade. The season might not even begin until the ASB lol
  6. Zeferjahn is also getting 40% whiffs on his sweeper this year and last, and 45%+ on his curve. His stuff has truly been elite per his K/9.
  7. Could be they wanted to give more him experience at 3B to increase versatility. Played only 6 games at 3B last year, was mostly SS plus some 2B.
  8. Yeah. It's just all-around odd he was in state junior college for some years before Marshall. A true late bloomer.
  9. Thanks. BR shows he was catching before he switched to full-time so at least he's wasn't new to the position. Probably grew up catching, at least partially.
  10. This guy has been getting 41% whiffs on his 4-seam this year, which is Mason Miller/the Miz terrority. Looks like he added more cut to it since last season.
  11. Outdated now, but in April this guy with Lance who watched him in the AFL said Ayers has a sub-1.85 pop-time and the Cubs love his framing, but was clunky receiving in the AFL. Do you know what the Cubs or anyone else thinks of his receiving abilities?
  12. I'll say that the Cubs know 100x more about their own prospects than we do. I trust their evaluations.
  13. I personally don't think the sign+extend thing is much of a calculation with Jed deals. There's no guarantees with them so the value is minimal. Both pitchers will also be 34/36 next year, not exactly ages Jed should like. If any has a chance to extend it would be Holmes because of the groundballs and younger age, but for me I'm assuming he's gone after this year.
  14. Fair enough! Does that mean the Cubs like Ayers better than Mo? Where would Mo fit if still on the top prospect list?
  15. There's no way the Cubs ditch on Detmers because of Ayers IMO. I'd rather go Detmers for Ayers+ than Holmes for Rojas. Reality is the Cubs weren't going to trade Ayers+Mo today. Id like to know how the Cubs feel about Ayers' glove. A 70 arm from Cubs.com is very impressive to start.
  16. If their pen is beatable then what does that make ours? Diaz is back before this Cubs series
  17. I think Mo will catch at least part-time, but we all know he's almost certainly below-average defensively and so do the Cubs and Angels. I also am not convinced this deadline necessarily says anything about Ayers. It could be very well that the Angels liked Mo better than Ayers. We shouldn't assume things, we don't know how any teams value anyone, which is the issue with us fans evaluating any of these TDL moves.
  18. This is why you get as many pieces as you think you'll need in the offseason.
  19. True, unless they like Holmes better in 2026.
  20. Yeah id just keep Rea, he can mop up. Civale/Woodford etc aren't worth keeping over Rea.. Stuff Assad in Iowa to stay stretched, there's more than a few replacement clunkers in the pen right now that can be tossed. They still need some backup SP until Cabrera is back in case of more injuries. But let's hope Rea never has to make another start in a Cubs uni.
  21. Besides Skubal, who would that have been though? Skubal would cost Rojas, Hartshorn, and another good prospect at least
