  1. I wonder how much rust affects the teams that get a bye, compared to the rest they get. I assume the hitters and pitchers do sim ABs or even sim games.
  2. I believe its not known yet. Someone here speculated that game day wind conditions could be a factor and favor Shota if blowing in.
  3. There's definitely no point in carrying 13 pitchers. 12 at most i think. Assad should be off the roster and I can't see them letting Wicks pitch unless there's an injury. Kind of odd they let him throw pitches. That means his spot in the rotation is Friday basically. If there's an injury or 2 it leaves them a bit vulnerable. I would have went long with Wicks and pulled Assad after 40 pitches., essentially reverse their workload.
  4. Boyd game 1, Taillon game 3. Between Shota and Rea, I could see either getting the nod. Rea has been good lately, is much better vs RHB than LHB. Shota struggling lately but slightly better vs LHP than RHB but mostly even splits. Padres have a good mix of LHB and RHB, though their big sluggers are RHB. I imagine the Cubs will look at the individual matchup numbers too, especially vs Rea who's been around the league a while.
  5. If this were the regular season i'd imagine 2 months would be the rough timeline. They'd be cautious with him too, but they'll for sure rush him big-time for the playoffs.. Personally I can't see him back before the NLCS or WS if he comes back at all.
  6. I've never had good vibes from Oli Marmol.
  7. They might want to start most of the regulars and pull some halfway since there's a day off on Mon just to keep guys 100% sharp. Seiya and Tucker 100% will start and one of Happ/PCA (probably PCA?). Castro probably starts for Swanson, Nico to SS. Busch might sit, Shaw probably starts.
  8. Carlos Santana wants that ring. Gotta think he'll likely be in the dugout during the playoffs even if not rostered.
  9. FYI to all: The Padres game is free on MLB.TV tonight. 8:40 central start time.
  10. Taillon has been pitching really well. I can't see how it's not Horton-Boyd- Taillon unless one of them is hurt.
  11. He caught for 120 games this year, which makes it even wilder.
  12. If he and Tucker can swing well the Cubs offense can come alive again. Swap Happ for PCA in the hot department. Having Ballesteros off the bench is huge too. Hopefully Seiya stays aggressive. Could be a fun weekend vs the Cards if guys keep swinging and the intensity stays high.
  13. Gotta think it's Horton and Taillon for the first 2 games if Horton is anywhere near healthy. If it goes to game 3 I'd go all hands on deck. Could be Rea and Assad each once through the order. Then maybe Soroka and/or Civale and hand it over to the pen. Could also use an opener. Padres are predominantly RHB so they'll consider who matches up.
  14. Agree. It's always the SS if he's behind the 3b with the better angle.
  15. Cade has a 1.03 ERA since the ASB. Could have been set to start Game 1. Could be pushed back now unless the issue goes away quickly. Shota still struggling with the HR off the fastball. Gotta imagine guys are sitting on it. Maybe even tipping?
  16. If we had kept Paredes and Cam Smith plus Shaw i was ok with trading Nico not last offseason but this one. But no reason to do that now though.
  17. Yeah. In a good spot. Could possibly rest some guys on Sat and Sun if they clinch soon.
  18. They could use another good SP for sure. They probably sign some FA. Probably not one of the elite guys based on Jed's history, but we can hope. Probably more the Boyd/Imanaga/Taillon type. Ballesteros has looked good. I'd like them to keep both Caissie and Alcantara if Tucker walks. Happ and Seiya will also be FA after next season i believe. It's possible Ballesteros goes part-time catcher after Kelly leaves next offseason or there's an injury.
  19. Back to back high scoring games, Boyd sharp, Palencia back, Tucker trending for Friday... Things are looking up folks!
  20. Back tightness lol. I'm there's pain so any kind of soreness I don't blame them running anyone through an MRI this time of year
  21. They suck but the situation is now getting interesting given how much they suck and therefore fighting for home field advantage.
