  1. I believe you made the exact proclamation about Busch when he was struggling. Sure hope PCA proves you as wrong about him as you were about Busch. Wonder if Brewer fans said that about Turang last year or if the Rockies fans said that about Doyle last year. So what is your background in scouting to make this determination about a 22 year old guy with a couple of hundred AB in the majors where he hasn’t hit well? Does his previous minor league experience where he hit at every level matter to you? Or is PCA destined to be a sub .220 hitter in the majors. Turang OPS+ in 23 was 60 Doyle OPS+ in 23’ was 53 both were older than PCA their rookie years. Both over 100 OPS+ this year. I am not saying PCA turns into either or just because both are much better this year that means PCA obviously will be too. I am just saying let’s let him play a little before damning him to be a bad offensive player. He is 22 years old.
  2. To be honest, even if they won the rest of games on thr homestand they are not going to buy any more than they will sell. I don’t see this team going over the LT. Since they are close the LT now, they aren’t going to take on salary. As for selling I only see a few guys. Any bench guy, Bellinger and any pen arm on his last year. I just don’t see that much there for people to suggest selling. This is the team either way, for me, except for mah e some small moves selling or buying. Most likely, selling. .
  3. Again, so? So trade Ahaw in a package to get Parades. Play Parades at 3rd. Morel on the team does not stop them from making any moves they might want to make. You suggested having Morel might mean they lose out on Parades.
  4. Just be used they don’t trade him doesn’t mean they can’t go after Parades. I think there is a Cubs team that could have both those guys. Having Morel doesn’t stop them from making any other moves.
  5. Ok, that makes sense. Because of less control he will lose value. I agree. But he also might prove to be a solid offensive player the Cubs might decide not to trade at all. Honesrly, if they get someone good fir him, I am fine moving him. But if his value is low, I would rather keep him and count on him getting better. He may not be an everyday DH or position player, but he can be very useful playing 3 or 4 days a week as a DH or filling in for someone. He does improve the bench.
  6. Whether they trade him now or the off season I doubt it matters. In fact, if he has a better end to the season he might actually bring more back. Or they might even decide not to trade him at all. He doesn’t have to be traded.
  7. Drury is a hard pass for me. I would sign Chapman for 3 years at $60M all day long over giving Drury league minimum.
  8. I would say WAY more valuable. To me, Wisdom should be dfa. Morel also has a possibility of getting better. Wisdom is not going to get better.
  9. So basically you are saying he is more of a 10th man if they keep him. That could be a very valuable person on the Cubs. He can fill in occasionally at all infield positions, and corner outfield but mainly DH. And not a regular. But a guy like that can get 350-400AB. And he would improve the bench. So I can see the point of keeping him. However, if trading him brings the Cubs an everyday catcher like Wong next season, or a high prospect like Teel this season, I am all for trading him. I know he, alone, won’t bring Teel now. But maybe him + does. As I have said before, I am on the fence on him. I can see both arguments. The only thing I do not want to see is him traded for next to nothing. And I am confident that won’t happen.
  10. I could see this scenario as well. So even if Bellinger comes back, which gives the Cubs 4 outfielders for 3 spots, and the Cubs add a third baseman next off season, Morel basically becomes the 10th man. With giving guys off days, I can actually see this working too. Basically next off season get a 3rd baseman, catcher, pen arm, and maybe a starting pitcher. Those needs are in order of importance, IMO. If they get a 3rd baseman in trade it would be easier to then fill all other spots. If they signed Chapman it might not be so each to add all the other spots needed. But they should have around $40M+ to work with, even if Bellinger stays. That should get them one higher priced guy and then fill the other spots via trade if they have too. And as you said, with Morel on the bench and then maybe Tauchman as well, the bench is pretty good. They would have a back up catcher and one other guy.
  11. I am not sure Counsell gave up on Morel at third. I think that had Bellinger not gotten hurt Morel would be playing 3rd daily. Based on who is in the roster now, it makes sense to play Mastrobuoni and if he is playing he is obviously at 3rd. But if Bellinger comes back and the choices was either one of the outfielders as DH and then they fill 3rd with either Mastrobuoni or Morel, Morel would be starting at 3rd.
  12. Very true. And I haven’t given up on his bat either. But the problem is I don’t see him at third next year. I guess if Bellinger goes go Morel can be the DH and they can trade for/sign a third baseman. The issue is, if they go FA and sign Chapman, their offense isn’t improved. If they trade for Parades, maybe that improves the offense, but at what cost? I am really in the fence with Morel. I think he still can be good. But not sure he fits this team.
  13. I understand the reasoning behind people suggesting trading Taillon, but I wouldn’t do it if I was the Cubs FO. I hope they don’t. He is reasonably priced for the next 2 years and I just don’t trust the Cubs will use that money and probably even more, to bring in another solid MOR starting pitcher. I would be fine with Bellinger being traded as well as any other players not expected to be in the 25’ team. That would be Wisdom, Tauchman, any pen arm, Hendricks. Maybe even Morel if the Cubs do decide he isn’t going to be their 3rd baseman moving forward. And that should be their decision. The problem with Morel is you might be trading him at his lowest value. So unless someone sees a young 30+ homer guy who can improve and pays accordingly, they might be better off not moving him.
  14. Agreed. I am not in the hot take camp that the draft sucks. Nor do I think rd 2 and 3 were lame picks. I am just wondering where they will be spending the money. Maybe the 4th rounder is an over slot. Maybe someone else we don’t realize right now, is an over slot. I am also surprised they didn’t go more pitching. But as you said, it is silly to get worked up about players none of us really know. Time will tell. The group they have now has done a good job. So you have to believe they know what they are doing.
  15. And I am not. I don’t know enough to know if it was a good draft or bad draft. The only thing I am saying is it appears the Cubs took a lot of guys well before their rankings. Usually that sets up a team for a big over slot at some point. And at this point, maybe except for the 4th rd pick, I don’t see an overslot. I am also kind of surprised at the lack of pitchers they took.
  16. The only issue I have with getting Chapman and Bellinger opting in would be they still don’t have a big bat. They have a very solid defense, especially if Bellinger moves to right and Suzuki is the DH. Maybe Morel+ brings them a decent catcher. That would be a solid team, but not a very offensive team. That is why, IMO, Bellinger has to go and they have to replace his bat with a better bat. Either through free agency or a trade.
  17. Don’t really understand this draft. Appear to be many underslot picks. But for what? For who? Or are the Cubs now going to go cheap in the draft? That was never a concern since Theo got here. But after seeing these picks, who are they spending the money on. It does not appear the publications who do rankings agree with most of the guys the Cubs picked. To be clear, I don’t know any of those guys. I am just basing my comment on how many are either not ranked in the top 500, or are picked way before where they are ranked. Maybe 1908 or someone else who really follows theee guys can explain why it appears the Cubs too so many guys way before they were projected.
  18. I’m not trading anyone they plan on being in the team in 25’. This includes Hoerner, Taillon, Happ and Suzuki. It doesn’t include Morel, Neris, Merryweather, and Bellinger. Honestly I would be fine basically trading Bellinger as a salary dump. Basically I see the Cubs needing a big bat next year, a 3rd baseman and a catcher. Maybe trade any combination of minor league talent with the exception of Horton to get Paredes. Morel can go in that deal too. Then sign Soto and either trade or sign a catcher. If they want to add a pen arm, fine. But I honestly think they have enough pen arms to make a good pen within their system. If they can’t get Soto, maybe sign someone like Chapman for 3rd and try working on a trade for the big bat. Maybe Guerrero? Maybe Tucker? Again, for either you work with the young talent and Morel to make the trade. If it is Guerrero, he becomes the DH, and you extend him. If it is Tucker he moves to right and you extend him. Tucker would cost much more. He plays right and Suzuki is the DH. If they have extra money they can look at an innings eating starter. With Imanaga, Steele, Taillon, Wicks, Assad, Horton, Brown, & Wesneski they don’t necessarily need another starter. But with many on innings limits, it wouldn’t hurt.
  19. Yep. Those two teams did what I feared the Cubs would do. Glad the Xubs took who they did.
  20. I am hoping for a college player. I don’t like HS pitchers.
  21. Malcolm Moore as an underslot is my guess. Hope I am wrong.
  22. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Cubs didn’t end ppup with any of the guys you mentioned.
