  1. Castillo isn’t super exciting. Nice get, but shouldn’t cost major assets.
  2. Nice. Glad you took it as a joke and didn’t get all angry. We all make mistakes😬
  3. What will realistic brain say? I think it is a great deal regardless. Just remember Jed got Paredes For Morel, Bigge and a guy they drafted in the 8th rd. He drafted Smith. There are guys drafted before him and maybe a little after him who, had he taken, he might not have been able to make this deal. To worry about losing Smith, when many previous years they never drafted someone another team would want, is silly to me. The guy had 100 AB after college. What he did proves nothing. Sure, maybe he will be very good. But there is a better chance he never amounts to anything anyone will miss. If anyone criticized Jed for the haul he sent to Houston, they first need to acknowledged the great job he did getting those guys in the first place. And you can even add Wesneski to that acknowledgement of good work as well.
  4. My off season moves from here would be: Bellinger to the Yankees Assad/Cassie for Pable Lopez. If you need to add to it, do so. Sign Kelly Sign Moncada sign Minter. If the Cubs trade Cassie I don’t want a rental. Would love Woo or Miller But j think Seattle wants major league talent. If not Lopez, someone with 3 or more years of control left that might start to get expensive. Maybe Mitch Keller? But I want someone better than him.
  5. Giving credit where credit is due, this deal never happens had Jed not got Paredes in a trade last year, and hadn’t drafted Smith. There are a lot of guys drafted before Smith or just after him who the Astros wouldnt have been interested in. Jed did a great job getting guys who other teams wanted. And now, FINALLY, the Cubs have a star player.
  6. If I’m giving up Cassie, I want a guy with more time available. Either a Seattle pitcher (Woo or Miller) or someone like Cristopher Sanchez. .
  7. With Swanson, Hoerner and even Busch you also have a great fielding infield.
  8. I would rather trade for a pitcher too. But that pitcher can make a decent amount of money.
  9. If the Cubs got a stud pitcher for him I can see that argument. Not Castillo, however. And really Seattle wouldn’t work with them dumping salary. But if you dealt him for a pitcher and then signed a guy who would be ok as a DH I can see that as a possibility. Or, maybe Suzuki for Bohm, Castellanos and Sanchez. Cubs add something. Solves 3rd base DH and pitcher. And still money to spend.
  10. So Kelly for $8M, pen arm for $5M, bench bat who can play 3rd, $8M. Pitcher for $20M+?
  11. I don’t see the Cubs trading for another guy on the last year of his contract. So I don’t know who it will be, but I doubt Cease will be a Cubs. I would love it to be the case, but I doubt it.
  12. Why do you think this? Have the Cubs been linked to him. Don’t get me wrong, I would love a Cease. I just don’t see it happening.
  13. Well if we took Castellanos that would mean Suzuki gets traded. Maybe that trade nets them a pitcher.
  14. That is a very light framework as far as the Phillies are concerned. So you mean Bellinger and Suzuki for Bohm and Castellanos? Money aside is that fair. It does solve some issues. Phillies get outfielders, Cubs get a 3rd baseman and a guy who will DH.
  15. Do the Cubs pivot and Bellinger is in the deal with the Phillies. Does that make sense money wise? Bohm and Castellanos for Suzuki and Bellinger. Add whatever else is needed. Does that work. Then Paredes a prospect and a filler for Tucker. Castellanos is DH and Bohm is 3rd baseman.
  16. I don’t like the idea of messing with Busch. Leave him at 1st.
  17. Did I miss something? I thought it said Bohm to the Cubs.
  18. How are you coming to that number? What is allocated to backup catcher? $7M? Pen arm? Starting pitcher? If it is $10M available with $35M TOTAL for pen arm, back up catcher and starting pitcher, I think signing one of the 3 mentioned would work. I don’t think Moncada, Rojas or Polanco should get to that amount. I just don’t see them spending big on the pen.
  19. You mean if Shaw can’t handle 3rd? Canario, Kelly and either Cowles or the guy they got from Detroit. Not sure of the last guy. Depends on if they have any money to add someone. And if Shaw earns the job you have Polanco, Canario, Kelly and either Cowles or Detroit guy.
  20. Hate to say it because I already forgot about him and people hate him here, but he also makes sense. But that said, what does any of Polanco/Moncada/Rojas cost? Would it really take them out of the market for a starting pitcher? I just don’t think they will spend big on a pen arm. I think they will get one more guy and it will be Hoby Milner. He can’t cost much. I feel there will still be a lot of money left for a staring pitcher. But if they do spend on a pen arm. Sure, why not bring Wisdom back!
  21. Then he would be my first choice. I would also consider Moncada and Rojas. Then if your boy Shaw is all that you think he is, that player would be a good bench bat. None should cost too much to hurt them elsewhere. I doubt they spend bit on a pen arm. My guess is since the Brewers dfa Milner was Hoby would be here. I think he will be the pen arm. So add Kelly, Milner, one of those third baseman and you should still have a lot of money to add a staring pitcher.
  22. Is Polanco a free agent? If so, he would be my preference as well. And if Shaw wins the job the Cubs have a nice lefty bat on the bench.
  23. I don’t think it is given to him without a back up plan. Maybe he wins it. That would be awesome. But I would like to have a decent back up who, if Shaw wins the job, is bench strength.
