  1. Fair questions. 1. I’m going with the reports from last month and marlin corroborating them about long term deals/the network not being as profitable. All that crap, to me, sends a pretty clear message that this is just a one year move. I’m not sure which one of jed or Tom is anti mega deal. I suspect it’s both at this point. But whatever the case may be, I’m assuming that past line of thinking continues forward with Tucker. I could not want to be more wrong here. Tucker signs long term and all my negativity towards this offseason evaporates. 2. I think you have to win those tanner scott type deals at this point. If Chicago was his first choice as rumored, we lost him over what, six million dollars? 4 of that is going to Colin freaking Rea. Who is just superfluous at this point. Also, we’ve been rumored to make a trade for a cost controlled pitcher for how many offseasons now? I’d like to see that finally accomplished. It just feels contradictory to me to acquire Kyle Tucker and then support that move with Boyd and Rea.
  2. Hawks run ended earlier and was much more inconsistent than it would have been without that mistake. And now look at them. They left Stan in charge after that obvious mishap (rumors persist that it was actually his mistake and dale took the fall because of Scotty) and we’re still a mess. If someone shows you a gross level of incompetence don’t just ignore it. No, not at all. They all make mistakes. Who knows, maybe the Michael Busch trade is a big mistake in 5 years. No one should really blame Jed if that turns out to be the case though. It was a calculated move and kinda a crapshoot. We needed help at 1st and he got it. But come on, everyone knew the Barnhart and Mancini moves were awful right away. You can get away with that if you’re the dodgers who will spend out of their mistakes. But when you have an owner who is pretending to break even every year, you have to be better than that. Jed knows his payroll each year. Those two contracts very likely got us saddled with Hector Nerris.
  3. curious, what makes you think that? Not disagreeing at all, just want your take.
  4. It’s not contradictory at all. If you believe we’re genuinely interested in signing Tucker long term that’s certainly an opinion. I’m not of that belief. Not remotely. So I’d rather use a cam smith in a deal for someone that could be here longer than one season. I’m not sure where people are coming up with the notion that I don’t want jed to be aggressive. It’s not remotely true. I don’t want him to just be aggressive enough to win a division and save his job. I don’t want him here. I think he’s awful. Whether or not we’d be going after Nick Pivetta is not even the complete argument either. It’s that he dipped over a tax line on a team that didn’t have a bullpen AND on two year deals for Tucker Barnhart and Trey Mancini. Not only does that call into question his ability to assess talent (as both were dropped in the first year of those ridiculous two year deals), but it also leaves me pining for a pobo who can practice basic math skills. It was just like when dale tallon/stan bowman killed the Blackhawks by forgetting to tender rfa contracts. Dude is paid way too well and has rode the nepotism train long enough to not make such silly mistakes.
  5. Seems like you’re dense enough to buy just what Ricketts wants you to. Congrats, you’re the ignorant fan he loves so much.
  6. I don’t respect you though. I think you’re the worst poster here. You act like an edge lord who just desperately needs someone to tell him he’s cool because that validation has never come in real life. Thanks for counting my word total though. That’s not creepy at all.
  7. I didn’t read all this because tired. But to the first paragraph it’s really not at odds at all. I think Jed is attempting to win the division this year to save his job. That’s it. He only needs one season of Kyle Tucker to accomplish that. Because for as dumb as I think Jed is, I think Tom is as greedy and thinks his this fan base is largely made up of nimrods. My fear and expectation is that we win the division this season, get bounced immediately by the Phillies, Mets, padres, dodgers and Tom excitedly declares “ look what we did! And thats more than enough to warrant a Jed Hoyer extension. And look, I think our revenue to spending ratio is as appalling as the rest of you think it is. But the truth is also that 230 million is more than enough to win a division wherein you’re the only large market team. That not withstanding, one of the other reasons this offseason is a miss for me is because we backed ourselves into a corner by going over the luxury tax by what, a whopping 3 million or so? That mistake is limiting free agent options as well. I’m not trying to be rude, but certainly I can aspire for a POBO that doesn’t make such a needless and ridiculous mistake. I can’t quite remember the details of their deals, but how much were we paying Trey Mancini and Tucker Barnhart to not play for us last year?
  8. I mean semantics, but do you really see us going to the World Series as we stand now? I don’t.
  9. At risk of you threatening to ban me again (I know that’s your go to power move) I’ll say you could always address me directly. I didn’t know you couldn’t be conservative in your free agent acquisitions and also make a simultaneously boneheaded trade as well. Only one of those things is possible? I’ve always prefaced by saying he’s a great move if he’s resigned. But how for the life of me anyone could see the point in paying any price to acquire a SEASON of Kyle Tucker when we have no business believing we’re a singular move away from a World Series is beyond me. But feel free to enjoy the absolutely uselessly good-to-great season he’ll enjoy at Wrigley this year. While also not putting a dent in the goal of making us World Series contenders. Because yes, two things can be true at the same time. Shocker.
  10. Not to mention Paredes. Who, not but 6 months ago was being hailed as a great and needed addition by most fans. I’m all aboard the Shaw train mind you, but there’s simply no point paying the price we paid for Tucker when he’s clearly not going to be here in 12 months. Use Cam Smith in a trade for someone with more control, but not as a last ditch attempt to save Jed’s ass. Dude is a moron when it comes to anything other than being Theo’s assistant.
  11. It certainly is boneheaded when you don’t upgrade other obvious positions of need. We aren’t one move away from the World Series. It’s idiotic to make a move that says otherwise. But hopefully you’ll enjoy us possibly winning a weak division and getting stuck with 5 more years of Jed Hoyer.
  12. I really thinking trading Cam Smith for one year of Tucker, and then not going all in in free agency to supplement around him is one of the most boneheaded moves I’ve seen made by a team I follow.
  13. So only post when dehydrated?!
  14. Personally, I hope the dodgers become a yankee like dynasty. They’re a big market and choose to take advantage of that. They should be praised for that. It’s not their faults we have a conman for an owner.
  15. Getting Tucker for a year will go down as one of the dumbest moves I’ve seen as a cubs fan. okay, this might by hyperbole because I’m tired and can’t think straight. But it’s very dumb.
  16. I mean we really don’t know his preference though. Maybe he has no interest in playing in Chicago during the cold months. Maybe the wind blowing out scared him away. We have no way of knowing. What we do know is Jed needs to get off his ass and make a big boy move. I just feel like Tucker is a one year move to try and save his own ass. So I can’t even feel excited about that one.
  17. That’s not the blue jays either. Though, I do understand the point you’re making.
  18. Oh I absolutely blame him for the roster. I just don’t think you can pin Sasaki on him. With the money being nearly the same, it comes down to his preferences, of which, we don’t know.. It really sucks though because I don’t actually trust Jed to improve the club much the rest of the offseason.
  19. The concerning part about this is that now Jed has to actually do his job. That’s terrifying. Not blaming him for this one. But Tucker* aside, this has been a terrible offseason. * working under the assumption Tucker is a one year rental to try and save a mediocre executive his job.
