  1. Wow the hot cub news hitting the headlines: Ian Happ bought a new condo. Is this like trade evaluations, we have to wait 3-5 years before we can declare whether he got a good deal? Sportswriters are starving for something to write.
  2. Both woodruff and Kershaw had capsule surgery on their shoulders. Kershaw will probably try to stay in LA. Could woodruff be a worthwhile gamble for Jed? I'm thinking more towards 2025, but can pitchers return in less than a year after this type of surgery
  3. It's the winter and I don't ice fish.
  4. Your 1st paragraph gives me hope, but the 2nd paragraph sends me scrambling for valium
  5. 65, my dad died in 08. Always thought it was a good season if they could get to 500 or better. He loved to say "Cubs don't have to get better, the other teams just have to get worser"
  6. Nope and yep
  7. Thanks all, for the responses. I guess I'm in panic frustration mode
  8. Wow, Vegas is gambling Juan Soto gets lost on his way to Steinbrenner Park this spring and somehow ends up at Sloan Park? I want some of that action
  9. Actually Rcal, this is about me, my age, and me feeling my mortality. I'd like just one more time to go into the season knowing the Cubs are the team to beat. I want them to be a monster in the NL. I want them to have the advantage one more time before I find myself drooling in my oatmeal, only to be told it was actually steak and eggs
  10. Bertz, you have to admit when Jed came out with guns blazing by stealing Craig counsell, you had visions of grandeur sprinkled in with expectations of katy-bar-the-door spending like we've never experienced here in Chitown.
  11. An owner who hasn't read the peter Angelo's book on "Having Deep Pockets but Short Hands"
  12. Hope springs eternal by Jeff MacNelly should be your avatar, lol
  13. The Cubs finished 23 on the outside of the playoffs looking thru dirty glass. They've since made 1 free agent signing and one trade. The Dodgers won their division with 100 wins, something around 18 more wins than the beloved. Since then the Dodgers have made 19 free agent signings and a dozen trades. And have added 26 billion in salaries. (Exaggerations on purpose) I wonder who stands the better chance of making the playoffs in 24?
  14. Jed might be saving money, mancini signs with Miami.
  15. I thought after making 10m in 23 Belt was retiring?
  16. Humm. Not sure why, but I have the sneaking suspicion Jed will try and sell us on the incredible hitting ability of TOMMY PHAM to be our bat addition. Welcome to 4th place in the weak central division cubfans.
  17. Aren't they being sold to Rubenstein?
  18. Might be just just? There was speculation earlier yesterday the mariners are willing to deal for an infielder. He might be just putting 2 teams together for match Could easily listReds instead of cubs
  19. To stimulate spending by ownership, how-a-bout mlb incorporates the European soccer standard of competition? This format requires performance skill and $$$ to remain competitive in the elite division for the highest awarded championship.
  20. Whoa Please don't be defensive. I'm curios because we are of the same generation and I respect your opinion. Please remove the chip from your attire. I'm asking because I can’t/won't believe Jed will let this opportunity to win the division float away. I understand he's waiting out the free agency to make his boss make more financial gain. But I can't justify the lack of trading more than the one deal to date
  21. Rcal, what if Jed DOESNT sign a belli, chapman, Hoskins or any other hitter of consequence. Are u anticipating contention? Or will you just be satisfied to observe the children graduate to Des Moines North?
  22. Jed had his eyelids surgically sewn open
  23. Is it a mathematical possibility all 5 teams in the nl central to tie for first/last?
  24. Sportrac projects Belli signing with the Cubs for 5yr at 22.5m per. That's Heyward money 💰 haha
