  1. Looking at these three teams, I think we can get an idea on what to expect our deadline to look like: Arizona 2023 Hitting - 18th wRC+ SP - 14th fWAR RP - 24th fWAR Fielding - 2nd fDEF Deadline adds - Sewald/Pham/Jace Peterson/Strzelecki Phillies 2022 Hitting - 10th wRC+ SP - 2nd fWAR RP - 9th fWAR Fielding - 28th fDEF Deadline adds - Marsh/Syndergaard/Robertson Braves 2021 Hitting - 12th wRC+ SP - 13th fWAR RP - 13th fWAR Fielding - 15th fDEF Deadline adds - Joc/Soler/Rosario/Duvall Cubs 2024 Hitting - 17th wRC+ SP - 11th fWAR RP - 22nd fWAR Fielding - 24th fDEF
  2. He's just saying that overall, the internal players will be responsible for how well this team does. Which is true.
  3. While 2021 might not be completely repeatable, he's a launch angle tweak away from being close. When you say "years removed from being a difference maker", it makes the guy sound like he's on the wrong side of 30 - He's 25 and just entering his prime. His Savant page is fantastic, outside of his LA. To me, this is a guy who has a 130 wRC+ floor over the next 7ish years with a possibility of converting him back to a fly ball hitter and have him turn into the superstar bat that he has the potential of.
  4. Just go ahead and throw in Yimi as well and make it a one stop shop.
  5. No clue. Haven’t bought a Cubs jersey since Sosa/Kerry Wood. However, I would buy two Soto jerseys if you’re listening Tom/Jed.
  6. You’re going to watch the Cubs get the leadoff guy on every inning and not convert and you’re going to like it!
  7. They’ve had some solid swings off of Shota so far, luckily multiple have been foul besides that one. Just keep guys off the base paths and we can live with solo shots.
  8. Front office pushing out this smoke to try to show the fanbase they are working on deals? Seems odd that this and the Vlad Jr stuff would leak all of a sudden.
  9. I just find it hilarious that we are in a position where Wisdom is the “best” play to leadoff. 0-6 with 5k’s against lefties so far.
  10. Interesting - they just said on the broadcast Busch has been taking grounders at 2b and also has continued to work at 3b.
  11. Was watching on the MLB network - they said earlier that Tauchman has the best BA in all baseball in the 7th inning or later.
  12. I should have been a little more detailed in my post, but I was more so talking about the likes of Luzardo or some other higher end multi year option. I like the idea of 5/6 years of Brown/Wicks/Horton opposed to trading possibly two of them for someone like Luzardo. I’m fine with adding a cheap, veteran rental to eat innings and help get us through this year.
  13. Yea, personally, I’m not making a move for another SP. I’d rather ride with our current guys and see what Brown/Wicks/Horton become. I’d hate to move any of them tbh.
  14. Same mold as Alonso, would help us (probably more-so considering position), but he’s just a rental.
  15. I’m still very much in the “make me hurt Jed if you trade or don’t do anything outside of rental RP” crowd. I think Alonso would help this team, but I’m not a fan of trading for a rental of his caliber when the team is a fringe playoff team. If this was 2016-esque, yes trade assets for the top rental guys who could put you over the top. For this deadline, go for Vladdy Jr or Kyle Tucker (Of course they have to be available, which it sounds like both very well could be) level of guys. Give me someone that could help this team beyond this year and try like hell to lock them up (Tucker, yes please). Make me hurt in a good way Jed.
  16. That starting 3 would be in the bottom half of the current NL playoff standings.
  17. Tommy Pham to the IL, so we get to miss that fun. Also, Rosenthal reporting that the Padres are pursuing Crochet.
  18. I sure hope they can break the trend, but Alzolay is the closest thing the Cubs have had to an internally developed closer since Rondon.
  19. You’re not alone. Most everyone here has been wanting Jed to add a true superstar middle of the order bat for some time. He’s went with the “a bunch of solid to above average hitters” vs going stars and scrubs. Personally I’ve liked the Rangers (Obviously) and Phillies approach better. Add stars/great bats and figure out the rest later. We’re at the point of no return with this core however.
  20. Wouldn’t a more relevant stat be SB against and how often teams are running on you? I don’t really like the thrown out stat because if teams are going to be more aggressive against you and maybe attempt SB with guys who don’t run as much, you’ll have a lot more opportunities to throw guys out that might not be great base stealers in the first place. I haven’t dug too deep into the data but this shows we are 23rd in opponent SB per game - https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/opponent-stolen-bases-per-game. Which is a 9 SB different from 23rd to 10th using 60 games as the base. Around a 24 stolen base difference across 162 games from 23rd just to 10th. Now the question becomes is that a lot or does that difference not carry much weight.
  21. Just an FYI as you may of missed the news yesterday. Counsell confirmed Merryweather is out until after the all-star break and no time table yet for Almonte.
