  1. Wish he would’ve pitched around O’Neil on 3-0 there or at least not give him a cookie. They only have a couple guys who can beat you and he’s one.
  2. I'm with you, there's multiple concerns with Mervis. It comes down to giving him enough ABs to where the front office can make an educated determination if he's a big league piece moving forwards or if they need to move on from him. There's a line with giving a guy too many PA's vs not enough. It's going to be different for every player and ultimately the guys making millions of dollars get to make that decision. I would rather give a guy too many PAs and have him fail than give him too few and have him flourish elsewhere, E.g. Muncy. Cost controlled pre-arb players that produce are so dang valuable to orgs.
  3. I know it's human nature to be reactionary as fans, but we've got to give these guys time. It's been 7 PA this season. Being a big leaguer is extremely difficult, and for a lot, it takes 100s of PAs to settle in. Mervis may not make it as a big leaguer, but they're going to give him another extended opportunity to see if he can adjust. Players typically do better in their second MLB stint. Just to show how tough it is to be a big leaguer, look at Jackson Holiday. He's literally looked like the worst MLB player in the league over his first 36 PAs, and that's a guy who wasn't challenged at all in the minors.
  4. Agreed. His defense and baserunning alone would add value. Especially to a team who has not been aggressive at all on the base paths this year.
  5. Or the ump gives Wicks the strike 3 call to Diaz the pitch before. Baseball things.
  6. Hey friends, what does Jaxon Wiggins time table look like this year?
  7. Since 4/8, 32 PA with a 207/281/207 line. Cooper was absolutely fine in his role and had the huge game against the Rockies early on, but I find it extremely hard to believe the guy would force his way off a big league club after not landing a guaranteed big league deal this off-season. I still think the Red Sox is a likely landing spot with all their injuries.
  8. Wind is absolutely a factor, but they squared him up well that inning.
  9. It’s not, but I don’t believe you were on PSD where we discussed the Hosmer signing ad nauseam. Come on, Hosmer vs Belli is Apples to Oranges, and you know that. That’s just such a terrible comparison. And I agree, this argument isn’t worth relitigating. We obviously have completely different views on how/where the Cubs should spend their resources, and that’s fine.
  10. They shouldn’t have wasted a dime on Hosmer. Every single person knew he was getting DFA’d once we signed him. He was trash with absolutely no upside. Mervis should’ve started with the team to be eased in instead of being called up, where there was a ton of pressure on the kid to produce right away after we had already wasted 31 games on a black hole. I will never agree to these dumpster signings over giving a guy with upside a chance. We see it over and over where a young kid struggles his first go around. Literally every single year this happens to multiple prospects. Sometimes they don’t work out, but I’m giving ABs to the prospect over someone like Hosmer 100% of the time.
  11. Cubs just keep making my day. Busch in the cleanup spot, with Hoerner/Happ batting 1-2. Mervis batting 8th behind Tauch, should get some opportunities to drive him in.
  12. He was actually showing signs of being hurt his last outing. Training staff was working with him in the dugout as he was twisting his back/hips. Shockingly, he came back out for another inning after that...
  13. Look at this team doing extremely obvious things that will make the team better. Good job Jed.
  14. I bet the Red Sox are already on the phone about Cooper. I do feel bad for him as he played fine, but this is getting us closer to a bench that actually has some upside and can play matchups better. I just wish they would get out of the dumpster diving mindset in the off-season and quit spending money on vets who clearly are toast or provide no upside.
  15. Hoping for some Belli, Busch, Mervis, and Happer bombs. I would say there's a chance Yordan hits one to the moon though.
  16. What's the local weather saying for tonight's game? My future radar only goes to 6pm and looks like there's some small cells starting to popup right around then.
  17. Yep, just let him go out and pitch and not overthink it. I like the change
  18. Is he? I was going off Fangraph's showing he had one option remaining. I assumed it was updated once he was optioned to start the year but maybe not. If so, then yea he'll be moved this year.
  19. Not to keep this discussion going and clog up the game thread, but you kind of made my point. With Seiya out for probably 4-6 weeks, this is his opportunity. I fully agree with the concept of not having a top prospect sit on the bench vs getting ABs everyday in Iowa. As we've established, he's not a top prospect and most likely a 4th OFer/DH bat. I'm just of the opinion that he's appealing enough that he should be given more of an opportunity than the Cubs appear to be willing to do. I fully acknowledge that the Cubs have all the data they need on him and have their reasons why they aren't playing him. Personally, I like the thought of seeing what he can do during this stretch before PCA and Caissie eventually take over. Once that happens, Canario will go by the wayside with next year being his last option year. It's really nothing more than I like the idea of giving a guy a shot who could be a cost controlled player with upside as a piece on the roster for the next 5 years vs adding vets every year who have been DFA'd/cut loose.
